Charlotte Tilbury Magic Red & Scarlet Spell Matte Revolution Lipsticks Reviews & Swatches
Magic Red
Charlotte Tilbury Magic Red Matte Revolution Lipstick ($37.00 for 0.12 oz.) is a deeper red with subtle, cooler undertones and a semi-matte finish. There was a subtle sheen to the finish that disappeared within an hour or two of wear (faster if blotted lightly).
The texture was smooth, velvety without being emollient (but still glided over my lips with ease) that was lightweight and comfortable to wear. It had nearly opaque color coverage that stayed on well for five and a half hours. There was a faint stain left behind, and the formula felt neither drying nor hydrating.

Formula Overview
$37.00/0.12 oz. - $308.33 Per Ounce
The formula is supposed to have "long-lasting color" that's "buildable" with "glowing pigments" that give the "illusion of wider, fuller lips." Some shades are buildable while others are fairly pigmented in one stroke. The consistency was more velvety, lightweight, and thin without being clingy or drying over time. I found that some shades were flattering on, as they didn't emphasize lip texture or get into my lip lines, while other shades gravitated into my lip lines. They wore between three and five hours and were typically non-drying. There was no discernible scent or taste.

Magic Red
LELimited Edition. $37.00.
Scarlet Spell
Charlotte Tilbury Scarlet Spell Matte Revolution Lipstick ($37.00 for 0.12 oz.) is a faded, medium red with subtle, cool undertones and a semi-matte finish. There seemed to be very fine, barely-there pearl running throughout the shade that kept it from being a true matte but the finish didn’t appear shiny (nor did it feel slippery on).
The lipstick had a lightweight, thinner feel to it that was velvety, smooth, and comfortable to apply and to wear. It had semi-opaque coverage in a single pass, which lasted well for five hours. The formula felt neither drying nor hydrating to me.

Was considering Magic in the red LNY tube. And like Scarlet even more. I’ve always been iffy about CT. To promote low-buy, I pulled out Bond Girl from a Sephora mixed brand set. You know, CT just does not work for me at all, and I’m glad I only have one l/s and one blush. There’s one brand to put in the rearview mirror, always a good thing. These will look wonderful on those who choose them.
Ooh, Scarlet Spell is so yummy looking! A perfect soft tone of red that I’d say is daytime/workplace appropriate…or so I’d hope!
Two beautiful reds, but I have the feeling that both would easily turn pink on me.
I love some CT products and really dislike some, her matte lipsticks I do love. I’m not much for matte lipsticks as most tend to make my lips very dry, the Matte Revolution lipsticks however are comfortable, last long and are a dream to apply.
After looking closely on the dupes lists I decided not to get Scarlett Spell and absolutely buy Magic Red. I had a few dupes for Scarlett Spell and pnly one, Ruby Woo for Magic Red.
These are both lovely shades on you, Christine!
I was reading that Magic Red is the same shade as the earlier release of Shanghai Nights? What do you think, Christine?
I’m so sorry to disappoint you, ACP, but I don’t have that shade so I don’t have it to compare.
No worries at all!!
Magic Red’s description is everything I want in a lipstick: “semi-matte finish; smooth, velvety without being emollient; lightweight and comfortable to wear; nearly opaque color coverage; faint stain left behind.” Music to my eyes, but … I don’t need another red, no matter how great it is, so no dice.
