Chanel Spring 2019 Rouge Allure Velvets Reviews & Swatches
Nuance (71)
Chanel Nuance (71) Rouge Allure Velvet ($37.00 for 0.12 oz.) is a muted, peachy beige with soft, warm undertones and a semi-matte finish. The color payoff was semi-opaque and did not build up much beyond that (definitely not “intensely rich” as described!). The texture felt lightweight, smooth, and velvety–thin but not clingy and never felt “wet” or truly cream-like. The color went on evenly and for the type of hue, it had a fairly flattering application, but it could have smoothed out my lip lines more. It lasted well for four hours and was neither drying nor hydrating over time.

Formula Overview
$45.00/0.12 oz. - $375.00 Per Ounce
The Rouge Allure Velvet formula is supposed to be a "non-drying matte lipstick" with "intensely rich, long-wearing colour" and has a "velvet matte finish." Over time, I felt like the formula has improved and is actually non-drying (the original launch did not wear well on me) to lightly drying (seen more in shades that have lasted six to eight hours). The pigmentation varies from shade to shade but is usually semi-opaque to opaque with a semi-matte to satin finish. The texture had a velvety, glide-on feel that doesn't feel particularly creamy or wet, yet the lipstick is comfortable to wear over the four to six hours it typically lasts for. Like most Chanel lip products, they have a rosy scent but no discernible taste.

Infrarose (72)
Chanel Infrarose (72) Rouge Allure Velvet ($37.00 for 0.12 oz.) is a bright, medium-dark fuchsia pink with subtle, cool undertones and a satin finish. It had semi-opaque pigmentation that covered my lips fairly evenly, but there was very slight color that pulled into my lip lines–more noticeable in the close-up swatch photos than in person. The lipstick had a smooth, velvety consistency that glided across my lips with ease and felt thin and lightweight (without being clingy). It wore well for five and a half hours on me and was lightly hydrating.

Imperial (73)
Chanel Imperial (73) Rouge Allure Velvet ($37.00 for 0.12 oz.) is a medium red with neutral undertones and a semi-matte finish. It had nearly opaque pigmentation that applied evenly and smoothly across my lips without tugging. The lipstick had a velvety, glide-on consistency that never felt slippery or “wet,” so the product didn’t slide around when worn. The color stayed on well for five and a half hours, left a faint stain behind, and was neither drying nor hydrating.

Despite the B+ grade for a $37 lipstick, I am absolutely in love with Nuance! It is 100% identical to a lipstick I wore to death and went through multiple tubes of during the golden part of my life in the early and mid 90’s. Bought my 1st tube of that whenever it was that Jane Cosmetics first came out. Possibly ’89?90?
I think I remember the one!
I agree Nancy, Nuance is a beautiful shade.
LOVE!
Imperial is a beautiful red shade and I love your Earth Tones eye look.
Christine you look beautiful in every one of those colors. You look really happy! Nuance is right up my alley. I’ll be heading to Nordstrom’s. I had Nuance in my cart but I don’t want to wait for it to ship.
Hope you love it, Kim!
Wow … Imperial! Not getting it, because … well … if I bought another red lip product I would be forced to check myself into a clinic.
Really just stopped by to say that your “faded set of earth tones” look is being saved to my “Ideas” folder. 🙂
I’m getting so tempted by Infrarose right now!
I got Nuance and absolutely LOVE it. This semi matte formula works way better for me than a lot of traditional mattes. This color is so easy to use. I can just apply it straight from the bullet without paying much attention and it looks great. It’s natural looking and smooth and adds a little bit of warmth to my complexion. I especially like it when I’m wearing BB cream.
