Chanel Rose Imperial & Prune Souveraine Rouge Allure L'Extrait Lip Colours Reviews & Swatches
Rose Imperial (874)
Chanel Rose Imperial (874) Rouge Allure L’Extrait Lip Colour ($55.00 for 0.07 oz.) is a deep plum with subtle, cool undertones and a glossy sheen. It had more medium, buildable pigmentation that could have applied a bit more evenly. The texture was lightweight, more emollient than other shades in the range, and as a result, was also a bit thinner and less dense. It lasted well for five hours and felt hydrating over time.

Formula Overview
$55.00/0.07 oz. - $785.71 Per Ounce
The formula is supposed to have a "satin" finish with eight-hour wear (and 12 hours of hydration) and an "ultra-high concentration of pigments" and a "deeply moisturizing complex." The range was quite pigmented with most shades delivering fully opaque coverage in a single layer, though there were a few exceptions.
The consistency was smooth, creamy, and lightly emollient without too much slip, so it stayed in place without feathering on me, but it was a "thicker" and denser formula compared to most Chanel lip color formulas I have tried; this wasn't a good or bad thing, but it was a departure worth noting for those familiar with prior lipstick releases from the brand. I felt this thicker formula did help to soften my lip lines and yield a very flattering look on my lips, though.
Most shades lasted at least four hours with some shades lasting closer to six hours but eight hours of decent wear would have been a stretch. Eight hours with some remnants of color? Possibly with some of the bolder hues (e.g. a red). The formula was comfortable and hydrating to wear, and I definitely felt no need to hasten to get lip balm after one wore off.
The lipstick had a subtle, floral scent (I didn't notice it after I applied it, mostly in the tube) but no discernible taste.
Note: this is a refillable lipstick, so the price reflects the cost of the case and the lipstick shade (cases are not currently available on their own). Refills are $40 each at the time of publishing.

Prune Souveraine (878)
Chanel Prune Souveraine (878) Rouge Allure L’Extrait Lip Colour ($55.00 for 0.07 oz.) is a blackened burgundy with subtle, cool undertones and a glossy finish. This was the worst-applying shade in the range of 20 at the time of publishing; the texture was too emollient, which resulted in more semi-opaque, uneven coverage that had a tendency to feather along the edges while worn. This shade wore for four and a half hours and was moisturizing, at least.

Prune Souveraine is a hot mess. Yeesh! Thank goodness for my very perfect Nars Siouxsie and other blackened burgundies.
Rose Imperial screams summer gardens with lots of roses, plus rose color begonias that my Mom planted yearly. Sooo tempting!
Doesn’t look like you get as much product for the price. A solid pass for me.
Sheesh, not a good release by Chanel. The shades are pretty enough but thankfully, Rose Imperial is dupeable and Prune is too dark for me. I don’t mean too dark in the sense that it would look weird on me but rather that when lipsticks are that deep and I worry my lips, I end up with a really bad ring. Not attractive at all!
Wow – Chanel is not having a good moment here – both the lipsticks are average to poor.
Dear Temptalia, I was so looking forward to your review as I really wanted to buy Prune Souveraine, but was confused by YouTubers loving it but then it not looking great on them. I’ve always wanted a lovely dark cherry burgundy, but I’m not sure what it is about formulating it. It must be difficult to get a consistently good even formula with this pigment colour. Not many brands seem to do it well. I will check out your YSL recommendation . Thanks for all your reviews as always 🙂
My pleasure!
It’s definitely something to do with the slip – I have even felt like there is often MORE slip with the deeper shades, which is almost always to their detriment! Your best bet is to find something that is more matte/semi-matte and then add a bit of balm on top if you need some shine.
In theory I love both of these, in real life I think both have too much slip for me. I think I’d end up with the ever so attractive dark ring around my lips. 😉
I will likely get Clinique Berry Pop instead of Rose Imperial as I find the cost of a Chanel lipstick a bit on the expensive side. I must also check if I have anything like Rose Imperial I do have lipsticks not listed in my vanity.
