Chanel Reve de Camelia Highlighter Review & Swatches
Reve de Camelia
Chanel Reve de Camelia Illuminating Powder ($80.00 for 0.35 oz.) is a soft, light-medium peach with warmer, more golden and yellow undertones paired with a luminous sheen. It had a gel-powder formula that felt denser, as consistent with that type of formula, but picked up well without much effort and worked just fine with less-dense, more traditional tapered highlighting brushes.
The product had more opaque coverage that could be dialed up or down depending on one’s preference. The finish was luminous without being prone to emphasizing skin texture. It stayed on well for eight and a half hours before fading visibly.

As pretty as the flower embossing/sculpture is, I would be using this one NON-STOP. Because lately, I am preferring exactly this type of soft glow over my old seen-from-space highlighters. And the shade is perfect for me, which has me looking for a less expensive dupe with all of this perfection going on!
This is so beautiful and I have a soft spot for LE Chanel highlighters. Unfortunately they have finally priced themselves past my self imposed limits with these, and the new lip line. This highlighter, however lovely it might be, is $108 Cdn. I steeled myself for $90Cdn like the newest LE blushes, but was actually a bit relieved as I now don’t have to convince myself that I need another highlighter.
I have ordered this and haven’t received it yet. I was worried about the more golden cast in the pan but was assured by a Temptalia reader, I am sorry I can’t remember who, that it didn’t translate to her fair skin as being overly golden. I may just put it all over my face!
It’s not golden at all. On my fair skin it gives a cool toned sheen. It’s beautiful, one of my best purchases this year
I am excited to get mine. I can’t remember when I was this excited to receive a makeup item, before the pandemic for sure. Thank you for validating the other readers comment.
Hi Deborah, I think that reader is me 😉. Hope you receive it soon and that you will enjoy it. On my fair skin, neutral with slight pink undertones, it does not translate golden at all (or peachy for that matter). It is skin-like on me, just pure luminosity. When looking at the product in the pan, I was almost sure that it will show some color, but that is not the case when applied on my skin (arm, face and eyelids). Bonus: it is talk-free and not drying at all (I have dry skin). Btw, I use the Air-Brush from Wayne Goss for application.
Thank you so much for reminding me who it was, Nicole. I have mostly neutral, leaning pink, undertones. I always use the WG Air-Brush for highlighters. It is my favorite brush for that purpose. I am excited to get it also. I was a bit bummed by the price but sometimes you just got to treat yourself. I am just happy to feel excited about something again. I had fallen into a pretty big funk for the past year and let a lot of things slide. My 50 year high school reunion is this summer and I have really mixed feelings about it. Mostly though, I am depressed at how quickly the time went by and some of the choices I made. I am not usually one for regrets but something about the reunion is getting to me. I have only been seeing my faults and “wishing” I had started trying to lose weight earlier, and started treating my old lady hair loss, etc. Consequently, thinking about not going. I mean, I haven’t seen many of these people in 50 years! What would be the point of reacquainting myself with them now? Oh well, I am focusing on the good stuff like this highlighter!!
Dear Deborah, I hope you enjoy your highlighter 🙂 Even though it’s only makeup, it’s a little part of makeup heaven! As for your reunion I’m glad you came to a decision. Personally, and for a women of any age, there are many things more important than a reunion, esp if it’s not going to be a fun event to look forward to, for you. Any friends or acquaintances that want to catch up with you or reconnect, in this day and age, have a hundred and one ways to do so. So you won’t miss any chances there. Take care, xx
I am light, neutral leaning cool in winter, slight peach undertone. Highlighter translates as neutral and transparent on my skin as well. I use the Wayne Goss air brush or Hakuhodo goat/squirrel mix cheek brush. I can use it all over the face as well, as a thin layer. It’s not too much.
Now you have, with the help of all who’s answered your post talked me into getting this. I was certain it’d be to warm and yellow-y for me and I’m not at all as fair as you are.
About reunions. I’ve been to two and have no intention on going to any more, but then, I didn’t really like anyone except for my best friend through all years in school and it’s not changed.
From your photos I think you are so cute with the dark brown eyes, fair skin and light grey hair. I follow your Instagram as I was curious about the origami, that’s so intricate and lovely.
So, now I’m going to check how much this HL is in €.
I think I have talked myself out of buying this beauty. It’s €77 if anyone want’s to know. It’s not crazy expensive, but my dog needs his medication more than I need a new HL and his medication is expensive.
Enjoy yours Deborah, I so hope you’ll love it!
I feel your pain on the price. Considering the exchange rate, 77 isn’t bad. I mean, it is bad but I expected it to be a lot higher. I think the exchange rate from the Euro to the dollar isn’t as bad as to the British pound though so that was probably why I expected higher. I was quite popular in high school but really only felt a deep connection with one of my high school friends. She and I went from 3rd grade through high school together and she was the only one I kept in contact with, visited consistently, and cared about what happened to her. She and I attended our 20 year reunion together and I didn’t actually enjoy the event. My best friend decided it was time to spill her guts to everyone she had wronged or who had wronged her and insisted I tag along with her. Added to that, we both brought our husbands and they had absolutely nothing in common. My husband took an almost instant dislike to the man and that is extremely unusual. My ex was such an extrovert that he couldn’t not interact with people. I didn’t blame my ex as I had never cared for her husband, either. Anyway, she passed away from breast cancer about 4 years later so not really anyone left that I care about. I think I feel like I should want to go, should be excited about it but I am not and after mentioning it, I decided not to attend. Thanks for helping me think it through. Have a great weekend, Helene.
Oh, and thank you for the lovely compliment. Regarding origami, it is a nice hobby and easy to start as there isn’t really a big investment. I actually got started after playing with straws and napkins while waiting at restaurants. With the long winters in Montana I needed something to do that didn’t involve a big investment of money. There is a very vibrant origami community on IG. They are very supportive and like the makeup community, very open to interaction. I love the hobby but what to do with all the models is the question. Some of them I keep to use as Christmas ornaments but there are so many that I have thrown quite a few out!!
