Chanel No. 8 Rouge Allure Lip Colour Review & Swatches
No. 8
Chanel No. 8 Rouge Allure Luminous Intense Lip Colour ($38.00 for 0.12 oz.) is a slightly bright, medium red with subtle, warm undertones and a fine dusting of golden micro-shimmer. It was, in fact, a “hint of sparkle,” as the brand had described. The consistency was smooth, velvety without being too emollient nor too powdery, which helped the color glide across my lips evenly but didn’t feather on me over time. The formula seemed to help smooth out most of my lip lines, too. It had opaque pigmentation that stayed on well for five and a half hours and was lightly hydrating over time.

Formula Overview
$45.00/0.12 oz. - $375.00 Per Ounce
The formula is supposed to have a "satin finish" with "ultra-thin pigments" that yield "full coverage" while also having a moisturizing base. Most shades in the range have a satin to luminous finish--not glossy but they have a luminosity to them that gives the appearance of lighter-weight color and smoother, fuller lips that a true satin finish doesn't have (in my experience).
The texture has a more velvety feel--smooth with great glide but not a lot of wetness, so they go on comfortably but feel very lightweight and thin but don't emphasize lip lines/lip texture. The coverage tends to be more semi-opaque to opaque, so they aren't always living up to the "full coverage" claim.
Most shades wear four hours or longer with some of the deeper and richer hues lasting six hours or more, and the formula has been hydrating for me. They have a subtle, floral scent but no discernible taste.

That is THE perfect red lipstick! And a stunning eye look to match too.
Hello Christine! Thanks so much for the review! This is going on my list.
I am on the lookout for some blue-based red lipsticks that are semi-matte for my wedding. You are my go-to resource for all things makeup. Would you have any recommendations by any chance? My favorite is Tom Ford, but am open to suggestions. Thanks so much!!
Transfer-resistant or transfer-proof? I hear wedding and think everyone wants something that wears like iron!
Hi Christine! Thanks so much for answering! Transfer-proof, I suppose if a semi-matte formula could possibly exist?
I have experimented with the lipliner called Gash in Urban Decay. The color is perfect for the look I am going for and stayed put on my lips, but a little too matte for me. I also have 0 knowledge of any lip products I can put on the top to make it a tad ”juicier” for photos.
Thanks again!!
It is beautiful. I was thinking hmm maybe as this is the kind of red I like. But lo and behold it’s just like Brave Red which is my favorite lipstick.
So gorgeous! But I already have two Chanel reds (including my all-time favorite red, Pirate). And I have a bunch of other reds by Guerlain, MAC, Colourpop, etc. So as pretty as this is—and it is REALLY pretty—I will save my money.
What a PERFECT red lipstick! I suppose that is why I have 2 dupes that certainly cover that for me, huh? But the finish that this one has is a bit more unique than my MAC Yoni Crush or Hot Like. I’m good with what I have, though!
It’s a perfect everyday red on me. I’m a sucker for Chanel’s red cases, so couldn’t resist Lucky No 8.
