Blushes Over $15 | 2019 Editor's Favorites

As I mentioned in my favorite blushes under $15 post, I reviewed just over 200 blushes in 2019! These are my more mid-end and high-end favorites from what I reviewed.  BUXOM’s Wanderlust Blush was a nice one, and in all honesty, I forgot all about it until I saw it come up as reviewed in 2019, so I’ll be taking Dolly and Seychelles and putting them in my essentials drawer.  Natasha Denona’s Rayo and Alba are already there!

If you’re unfamiliar with how I like to do my year-end favorites, here’s the low down: I pull from the products I reviewed in 2019, regardless of whether they were new, limited edition, or an established range I’ve only just gotten around to reviewing. These are personal favorites, so they may or may not be the highest rated products reviewed during the year (though they will tend to be better rated, naturally!). (You can check out best of 2018 if you missed it.)

Your Year in Review: Blush Edition

I thought it would be interesting to read through how readers used products throughout the year, what favorites emerged, what products fell by the wayside… so, if you want to join in, copy and paste the questions below and add your answers via a comment!

  • What color of blush did you reach for the most this year?
  • What type of finish did you gravitate toward the most?
  • Do you think you’ll wear more, less, or the same amount of blush in 2020?

Please keep discussion on-topic, and if you have general feedback, a product review request, an off-topic question, or need technical support, please contact us!

Please help us streamline the comments' section and be more efficient: double-check the post above for more basic information like pricing, availability, and so on to make sure your question wasn't answered already. Comments alerting us to typos or small errors in the post are appreciated (!) but will typically be removed after errors are fixed (unless a response is needed).

We appreciate enthusiasm for new releases but ask readers to please hold questions regarding if/when a review will be posted as we can't commit to or guarantee product reviews. We don't want to set expectations and then disappoint readers as even products that are swatched don't always end up being reviewed due to time constraints and changes in priorities! Thank you for understanding!

What color of blush did you reach for the most this year?
I always gravitate towards coral/peach blush shades. This colour suits me the best.

What type of finish did you gravitate toward the most?
I prefer a soft matte finish. Whilst I like the look of shimmery finishes, it just doesn’t suit me.

Do you think you’ll wear more, less, or the same amount of blush in 2020?
I will wear the same amount of blush next year as I did this year. Wearing blush brings colour to my face.

What color of blush did you reach for the most this year? Shy Pink by Burt’s Bees

What type of finish did you gravitate toward the most? Matte or satin. Nothing too shimmery, it accentuates my texture.

Do you think you’ll wear more, less, or the same amount of blush in 2020? Same, I love blush.

What color of blush did you reach for the most this year? As always, rosy pink or plum shades (that Dior one always tempts me when I see photos of it here). My go to’s are Dior’s Rosy Glow Awakening Blush and a lovely Mineralize “oldie” from MAC called Sweet Sentiment
What type of finish did you gravitate toward the most? Something with a bit of sheen – the MAC In Extra Dimension blushes or their Sheertone Shimmers are 2 perfect examples of the type of finish I love
Do you think you’ll wear more, less, or the same amount of blush in 2020? The same. I need blush because I am so fair (and fading) but I don’t want to become one of those older women with the Kewpie Doll pink circles on my cheeks.

What color of blush did you reach for the most this year? Corals, purples, and plums, and rosy brown nudes — Which is typical. Atypically, I wore pinks a lot this year! 1) I rediscovered MAC Pink Cult functioned beautifully as a cooler-toned “nude”. 2) I found several new pinks I really, really liked: ND Pink-Champagne, Chantecaille Philanthropy Cheek Shade in Bliss (Butterfly), Kevyn Aucoin The Neo-Blush Trio in Rose Cliff, the pinks in the NARS Hot Tryst Palette, and My Pretty Zombie Drugs Like Me Blush in MDMA. (Disclaimer: MPZ’s owner is a pharmacist, and named the blushes out of compounds used in her field, and she does not condone recreational drug use.)

What type of finish did you gravitate toward the most? Luminous, duochromes, and fine shimmers. I really like satins, but they’re rare birds.

Do you think you’ll wear more, less, or the same amount of blush in 2020? As much or more. I had several months this year that I wore makeup only once a week or so due to illness. I’m hoping that doesn’t happen next year!

I want to try experimenting with red and orange blushes more. I feel like a challenge. lol

What color of blush did you reach for the most this year?
I mostly gravitated towards browns, but using them with a light touch for a barely there make-up look – the kind of colors that could almost be used as a contour or bronzer depending on if they leaned more taupe or rosy if you really wanted to.

What type of finish did you gravitate toward the most?
I tend to gravitate towards satin or luminous finishes, but I don’t mind a matte every now and again, but I usually brighten it up by either using some kind of illuminating product blended into my base product or topped with a highlighter.

Do you think you’ll wear more, less, or the same amount of blush in 2020?
I was so busy this year and prioritized sleep over makeup. I can count the number of times I wore makeup this year on two hands. So I think it would be impossible to wear less blush. I’m hoping to wear more – not because I’ll be less busy, but I do feel guilty letting my makeup collection languish.

Do you think you’ll wear more, less, or the same amount of blush in 2020? — hopefully more! I think blush is making a big comeback 🙂

What type of finish did you gravitate toward the most? Mostly a glowy finish.

Do you think you’ll wear more, less, or the same amount of blush in 2020? I love blush more than ever. I’ll probably wear it just as much in the coming year.
