Anastasia Ultimate Glow Glow Kit

Anastasia Ultimate Glow Glow KitAnastasia Ultimate Glow Glow Kit ($45.00 for 0.96 oz.) includes six highlighters in a gold-hued theme. This palette is going to be best suited for someone who likes more over-the-top highlighters that run glittery, sparkling, and/or metallic and doesn’t mind if the texture of their skin is emphasized by their highlighter. The formula on some of the highlighters is rather dense, so airier, fluffier brushes did not work well with it–I felt like a denser or even a flat, synthetic brush worked better to get both color and shimmer out of the product. The more feathery brushes I tried tended to grab more of the sparkle and frost content than color, which resulted in a more uneven application.

Snow is a bright white with a metallic sheen and subtle, warmer undertones. It had mostly opaque color payoff with a soft, smooth consistency that was lightly creamy and not too dense in the pan. It lasted for seven and a half hours on me and did not emphasize pores or my skin’s natural texture. Cover FX Prism (LE, $34.00) is cooler (95% similar). NYX Ice Queen (P, $5.00) is more shimmery (95% similar). Ciate Rainbow (P, $32.00) is less shimmery (95% similar). Burberry No. 01 White (LE, $68.00) is less shimmery (95% similar). Anastasia Forever Lit (LE, ) is more shimmery, lighter, brighter (95% similar). Becca Icicle (LE, $38.00) is cooler (95% similar). White Sand is a bright, light-medium yellow gold with warm undertones and a sparkling, metallic finish. The consistency was dense, more cream-like than powder-like, with opaque color coverage. The texture did not work as well with most highlighter brushes, as they were too feathery and did not have enough bulk or firmness to them to pick up the color. I had better luck with synthetic brushes as Elle as denser blush brushes. This blended out well on the skin, and as I blended it out, it did not seem to emphasize my skin’s natural texture. It wore well for eight hours on me before fading. Makeup Revolution Golden Kiss (P, $9.00) is less shimmery (95% similar). Huda Beauty Fiji (LE, ) is less shimmery (95% similar). Tarte Authentic (LE, $28.00) is less shimmery (95% similar). Anastasia Butterscotch (LE, ) is more shimmery (95% similar). MAC Dazzlegold (LE, $34.00) is warmer (95% similar). Golden Dawn is a medium gold with warmer undertones and a sparkly, metallic finish. The texture was denser, somewhat creamy, but it had a more noticeable sparkle to it, which gave it a drier feel. I felt like some of the shimmer loosened away from the base color, and this was a shade that I found a dense blush brush was what worked best for applying. When I used a tapered highlighting brush, I got a few stray sparkles but little color payoff. The color wore well for eight hours, but there was some emphasis of pores due to the chunkier frost/sparkle in it. ColourPop Fairest of All (LE, $8.00) is lighter (95% similar). Sydney Grace Duchess (P, $9.00) is less shimmery (95% similar). Becca Gold Lava (LE, $38.00) is more shimmery, lighter, cooler (90% similar). Sunray is a medium-dark, bronzy gold with warm undertones and copper sparkle over a metallic finish. It had more noticeable sparkles that lifted away from the base color, especially as I blended it on the skin, so it did not translate onto the skin overall. (This may be a good thing if you do not like noticeable glitter!) It had a stronger sheen, which emphasized my pores slightly, but it seemed to dissipate as I blended and buffed the color onto my cheeks. The texture was smooth, dense, and creamy-like to the touch. On me, the highlighter started to fade after eight hours of wear. Guerlain Electric Look #2 (LE, ) is less shimmery, darker (95% similar). MAC Hot and Heavy (LE, $34.00) is lighter (95% similar). Looxi Beauty Luxe (P, $7.50) is lighter (95% similar). Anastasia Dripping in Gold (LE, ) is less shimmery, darker (95% similar). Amber Gold is a muted, medium-dark rosy copper with a lot of warm rose and yellow gold sparkle and shimmer. The texture of the powder was very dense, and it really required firm pressure and a dense brush to get payoff out of it; the problem was less that it was firm so much as it was just like a very dense cream. It’s the type of texture that seems to work well for intensely pigmented eyeshadows, but it is too dense to get that same level of coverage when using with traditional cheek and face brushes. As I blended this shade out, the color pulled apart more and looked a little patchy. This shade wore well for seven and a half hours. Laura Mercier Indiscretion (P, $45.00) is less shimmery, lighter (95% similar). Morphe Boom (P, $14.00) is cooler (90% similar). Estee Lauder Mirage (LE, $47.00) is more shimmery (90% similar). Hot Sand is a slightly muted, medium-dark coppery brown with warm, orange undertones and copper sparkle over a metallic finish. This shade was similar in texture to Amber Gold: very dense, cream-like, and smooth to the touch, but it was difficult to get good pigmentation and even coverage using most cheek brushes. I liked applying this with fingertips the best, actually, as it gave me better coverage and a smoother finish. The product didn’t diffuse well with a brush, as it had a tendency to stick strongly where it first landed and did not want to move from there. I was able to wear this shade for eight hours. JD Glow Gabrielle (P, $16.50) is less shimmery, darker (95% similar). MAC My Mimi (LE, $45.50) is lighter (95% similar). Sydney Grace Bronzed Radiance (P, $8.00) is cooler (90% similar). OMG, Golden Dawn! Finally a really yellow gold highlighter! Oh my, I have a weakness for gold highlighters, I will need to check out this kit to see if the sparkles will work for me. And Amber Gold reminds me of EL Modern Mecury.

I have a couple of other glow kits that I love, but this one didn’t appeal to me in promo pics I’ve seen, and definitely doesn’t now that I see swatches. That lost color looks chunky. I do like the white, though. It’s pretty. Easy pass for mt, though.

Yeah, the texture is different compared to the other shades – they’re really dense, and they have more sparkle/glitter overall.

I was all ready to buy his as soon as it launched at Sephora, but I started seeing some reviews echoing what you are saying (only on other sites, not Sephora with heir perfect reviews, of course ?) and I am definitely hesitating. These sound like a departure from the past ABH formula and kind of problematic. I do use my highlighters for eyeshadow a lot and they could work for that, but then I still don’t want to pay $45 for 6 gold eyeshadows. I’ll go check it out in store next week, what a bummer.

It’s definitely a different formula – it is easier to use on eyes for sure, as it is like MUFE Artist Eyeshadows (that aren’t mattes).

These do look very sparkly/shiny, in addition to all being warm, so it’s not my kind of thing, but some of the colors are pretty.

I finally ordered the Moonchild palette from Anastasia’s web site. I wanted to swatch it somewhere before purchasing, but no one seems to be carrying it, even on-line. Such is the fate of a truly cool-toned palette, I guess πŸ™

I’m concerned it might be too shiny for me, but I just love all those cool colors, and I’m sure I’ll use it on my eyes, if not too often on my cheeks. After seeing what a drop of the blue liquid pigment from MUFE does to transform too-yellow base products into something that looks a lot more like my skin, I felt like I really needed to give this a good try!

This looks like it will be really beautiful for ladies with deeper skintones!

Am I the only one that wishes Anastasia would come out with a glow kit that has a little bit of everything and not something that has the same tone overall? But I guess that’s why the pans are removable, so you can customize.

Though you can’t buy them individually so I feel like you might buy a kit and use two a lot and the rest not much at all πŸ™ I wish they were sold as refills!

This palette lost me at “pore emphasis” and its density. I love a strong highlighter like MAC Shaft Of Gold or CP Butterfly Beach, but these seem even more over the top. The one that dupes EL Modern Mercury is gorgeous, though.

I’m trying to figure out to whom I should give the mistaken Taraji highlighter. Having a pile of gold ones is so not me. Really like the dupe for ELMM, though. Hot sand is nice, too. Guess I favor coppery. And your eyes with the NARS di palette makes me consider it. How subtle and perfect!

I don’t like the looks of the first three but do like the looks of the last three, even though the final two look like they have chunky glitter on the swatch (which I don’t like), it doesn’t show up that way on your cheeks.

Gorgeous, but Snow is the only one that wouldn’t be too dark on me. I don’t care for the chuncky glitter in Hot Sand, either. I’d get more use out of this on my eyes than my face.

I could definitely see the formula working better on eyes (though I’m not sure what the particle size is on the sparkle/glitter).

Not for me, this hightlighter palette. I really like the whit one, I could probably use the second one, but after that they get to gold-y for me, and I certainly don’t need anything that makes the texture of my skin more visable.

I definitely noticed the difference in consistency between the shades – it doesn’t bother me as such and as much as I wanted to love Amber Gold the most, Sunray is probably my top pick from the palette. I do think the other permanent palettes have a smoother, more finely milled texture but YMMV πŸ™‚

Yep, the other ones are definitely softer and more like a good cheek/face product, but these are much denser that they work better as an eyeshadow formula, where you expect to dig and get into the pan more.

Easy pass! Thanks for the review Christine! I already own 3 of the Glow Kits among my plethora of highlighters so I definitely don’t need ones that don’t perform amazingly!

I’ve been a huge fan of the Glow Kits ever since they first released, but ABH missed the mark for me on this one. I’m not a fan of the packaging & the fact that these are so effin sparkly. I’ve loved every glow kit that has been put out, except this one. I hope ABH will put their original formula on future glow kits because I hope that this isn’t an indicator of a direction of future glow kits. I’ll happily skip this one

Pass!

But please help…What brushes work best wiith dense powder HL & brushes? Any help & advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you in advance.
