Soft Glam

Anastasia Soft Glam Eyeshadow Palette ($42.00 for 0.28 oz.) is a new, warm-toned neutral palette with mix of mattes and shimmers. There are several shades repeated from the permanent line (Orange Soda, Dusty Rose, Sienna, Noir as well as the Modern Renaissance palette (Tempera, Burnt Orange, Cyprus Umber), so those who have a more extensive stash of the brand’s neutral shades may find there’s quite a bit overlap. I expect that it will work well as a go-to palette for some and others will find too many dupes within their collections already.

The quality was good–not a slam dunk–and most of the issues were minor or improved over a primer (e.g not 100% opaque but buildable, shimmers that were better over primer or with a dampened brush, and so forth). The shimmers were weaker than I expected on their own–they weren’t as dense or as creamy as some of the brand’s more recent shimmer eyeshadow releases.

Tempera

Tempera is a light peach with warm, yellow undertones and a satin finish. It was richly pigmented with a soft, lightly powdery consistency that managed to maintain most of its coverage even when blended out quite a bit. I noticed that the version in this palette seemed to be a bit warmer, though, compared to its iteration in my Modern Renaissance. This shade wore well for eight hours on me.

Formula Overview

$12.00/0.06 oz. - $200.00 Per Ounce

Anastasia Eyeshadow is supposed to be a “finely-milled, highly-pigmented” powder eyeshadow. There are several different finishes, and the performance can be better or worse depending on the finish, though it also ranges from shade to shade. On average, the formula is semi-opaque to opaque, lightly dusty to buttery, wears seven to nine hours, and is fairly blendable. The Metallic and Titanium finishes seem to be the best-performing to me, but there are some really standout mattes and shimmers as well. I have not tried the sparkle, satin, or velvet finishes as extensively as the other finishes, personally.

Glistening

Glistening is a light-medium, orange-toned gold with warm undertones and a frosted finish. The eyeshadow yielded medium coverage, which was hard to build up without using it with a dampened brush. The texture was drier and looser, which resulted in a sheerer appearance. It lasted for seven and a half hours on me.

Orange Soda

Orange Soda is a bright, light-medium orange with warm, yellow undertones and a matte finish. It had rich color payoff that applied evenly and smoothly to my lid. The texture was lightly powdery in the pan, but this did not seem to impact the actual application. It started to fade on me after eight hours of wear. The version is this palette read a bit lighter and brighter than the permanent single I have.

Rose Pink

Rose Pink is a medium-dark, rosy copper with warm undertones and a metallic finish. The texture was drier and more loosely pressed into the pan, which resulted in the product not binding as well without really pressing and pushing it into the skin with a fingertip, flat brush, or dampened brush (I would recommend the latter for best and easiest results!). It had semi-opaque pigmentation that only intensified with a primer or dampened brush. It wore well for eight hours with slight fallout over time (with no helpers!).

Sultry

Sultry is a medium-dark, coppery bronze with warm undertones and a metallic finish. The color payoff was opaque, but the texture was a little soft and drier, which resulted in where the product had a tendency to loosen from the surface too easily and had to be pressed and buffed into the skin to bind the powder together and smooth it onto the lid. One could avoid the extra effort if applied with fingertips or a dampened brush (the latter remains my preferred method). It lasted nicely for eight and a half hours on me.

Bronze

Bronze is a bright, coppery gold with warm undertones and a sparkling, metallic sheen. It had semi-opaque pigmentation, but it needed to be applied over a primer or with a dampened brush for opaque coverage (and a dampened brush made it go on more smoothly and give it a stronger sheen). The texture was drier and more loosely pressed in the pan so there was a bit of excess product kicked up in the pan. It wore well for eight hours on me before fading noticeably.

Mulberry

Mulberry is a deep, reddish plum with warm undertones and a matte finish. The consistency was velvety and a bit denser but not too firmly pressed in the pan–it reminded me more of the shades in Subculture in feel, but I didn’t have any issues working with it on the lid as the color applied evenly and blended out well. It started to fade on me after eight and a half hours of wear.

Cyprus Umber

Cyprus Umber is a dark brown with subtle, warm undertones and a matte finish. The pigmentation was fantastic, while the texture was soft, silky, and smooth with just a touch of powderiness in the pan. The eyeshadow applied well to my bare lid and blended out with ease. It lasted for eight hours before fading slightly. The version in the Modern Renaissance palette was a bit cooler in tone.

Noir

Noir is a deep black with neutral undertones and a matte finish. The color payoff was opaque in a single layer, and the color applied evenly onto my blid but could have been more blendable. The texture was a little thinner and drier to the touch, which I expect was why blending wasn’t easier, but it was workable with extra effort. It wore well for eight hours on me.

Same. Think of how different this could have been, with some purples, maybe a matte navy blue. I will say that if I didn’t already have ModRen, I’d probably want it; it’s very pretty.

Lea Avatar

I hadn’t looked closely enough to realize how many overlaps are in this palette. Kind of an odd choice. I understand a couple, but eight of them?

Christine Avatar

I’ve sent an email and direct message to ABH a few days ago but no replies. I’ve seen others ask and no answer on that, but obviously I haven’t combed through every single reply they’ve given to people… just that I’ve tried and haven’t found anything. All that I personally remember was Norvina saying something like if it sold well, they’d consider making it permanent.

Lea Avatar

Oddly, I’m finding the name incongruous with this. The looks you’ve posted don’t read as soft glam, more smokey neutrals or cool and smokey. I don’t mean it as a critique of the looks either – they’re lovely, but I don’t know if I’m getting soft from the colors themselves if that makes any sense.

Quandary of the week, makeup wise: I own MR, and am now in the midst of deciding between this or Viseart Tryst. Between multiple palettes, I may be able to get close to replicating the many different looks I’ve seen on here and on YT using either one. But the pairing each shade from both palettes to what I already have will be an undertaking! And then remembering which ones may prove impossible.

Ginny Avatar

I thought I might like this but I decidedly don’t. This is so dull compared to MR and Subculture and even Prism and I don’t even own an ABH palette. I can’t even say this would be a good palette for someone who just uses one or two palettes because out of 5 shimmers three of them are similarly gold and the other two are similarly copper.

They should have jumped right on the mauve/berry train that’s clearly comin round the mountain. It would sell like mad and be more fitting for the name Soft Glam.

That said I’m sure this will have no problem selling.

Elizabeth Avatar

I love your eye looks! I have a bunch of these ABH singles in my stash, and pulled in some others from MAC & MUG to flesh out a reasonable Soft Glam facsimile…and I really like how this color scheme works together. I obviously don’t need this palette, but it’s good inspiration to use what I have in new ways.

Lynda Avatar

I’m torn on this one. I want it because it’s pretty and I love a more neutral palette. I am looking for a quick and easy work palette but I’m not completely sold.

Jessica Avatar

If you have a lot of shimmers already, I would look into getting the Viseart Neutral Matte palette. It’s pricey, but Muse Beauty Pro does have Viseart palettes on sale a few times a year or you could wait for the Sephora Spring or Holiday sale.

I purchased all of my Viseart palettes on sale and the only one I had slight buyers remorse on was the Editorial Mattes. Not because it’s a bad palette, but b/c I don’t reach for it enough to justify the price (even though I got it on sale for $55). Every once in a while I get tempted to get the Warm Mattes, but I know that would be unnecessary b/c I own the Sephora Pro Warm palette, but Viseart makes some of the best matte shadows.

Kate Avatar

I have this palette and so far really love it (I don’t own any other ABH palettes just a few singles), my only gripe is I wish they would have included more variety with the shimmers. I don’t need 3 golds, and since I don’t own any other ABH palettes I would have loved to see vermeer in this palette.

Mariella Avatar

Kate, Vermeer is now available as a single and SO worth buying (I don’t have Modern Renaissance so I bought it as a single, not even realizing it was in that palette). I use it so often that I’m glad I have a large pan rather than the smaller one in the palette).

AB Avatar

Oddly I’m not attracted to this, and I am the poster child for warm neutral eyeshadows. Maybe it’s the many dark shades — which are not for me as I’m quite fair — or that it’s not somehow cohesive to my eye. In contrast, I have Viseart Tryst, which does hang together and I am enjoying a lot.
Thanks for getting the review up so quickly!

Kim Avatar

I freaken love your vanity feature. I have dupes for every shadow in this palette, so it is an easy pass for me. Still waiting for an amazing cool/neutral toned palette to come out this year. Hope the brands are listening to every makeup lover ever lol

Catherine Avatar

Adding a black eyeshadow to a pallete with the word soft in the name seems…like not the right choice. For a soft glam, I imagined a LOT of just mid-tone shades, a mid brown, olive, rust, mauve, then some shimmers (not three golds ffs) to accompany those tones, and then 4 transitions again to accompany those tones. Thats about 12, with two extras those couldve been some lovely duochromes, like a lavender-olive shift to add interest, and maybe a red to gold to use with the other browns or the rusts. I don’t think Tempera was a good choice either. I think they’re mistaking “natural” (not neutral, more like assortments of warm browns) for “soft”. The black and lightest shade make it glam for sure for that contrast but I think they missed the mark for something that could’ve been amazing and more inclusive.

Kaitlyn Avatar

When photos of this palette first leaked, I was hoping it would lean more on the cool-toned side. As it ended up being more warm neutrals, it’s an easy pass.

Monica Avatar

I love these colors and sinceI don’t own any ABH palettes, this one may be perfect for me. However I am on a self-imposed 90 days restriction of not buying any makeup. Ugh, maybe this will be my reward for completing the 90 days.

Paulette Avatar

Very disappointed. When I. first got a peak of this palette I looked pretty. Way way too many golds, peachy and browns . This palette had the makings of a Spring palette that could have been kick -ass with replacing the repeated colors – Lilacs , shimmy pink golds, purple & Indgo blues. I have MR too and also the Self Made palette , that is beautiful . I never was interested in Subculture or Prism.
I have not purchased a new palette in a long time, ( Not even a Holiday one )
?.
Christine your eye look is gorgeous !!!! doesn’t even look like it was from that palette. You place and blend colors so beautifully. I love all your looks !! I’m curious to see how some YouTubers gurus put a eye look together., I don’t think anyone can top your look.
Thank you again & again for all the hard work you put into everything. ❤️

Yara Avatar

I use my Modern Renaissance and even Prism palette all the time, but like many others have said, this is too similar for me to purchase – I’d prefer to buy some of the permanent singles. The whole concept for this palette is a bit “meh” in my book compared to what Anastasia has come out with before. I don’t like the beige velvet cover, and the only colour unique to Soft Glam that I’ll be sad to miss out on is Mulberry.

Oh well.

Jessica Avatar

If you own 1-3 ABH palettes then you own this palette. I knew from first glance I wasn’t getting this palette b.c I could tell just by looking at it that I had dupes for every shade. But I can see why people would want this palette. It’s a good everyday palette. I know a few people who would love this palette and would use it daily.

Anastasiia Avatar

I liked how it looks overall but why why so many gold shimmer shades? Does someone need all shades of gold in one palette? :/
