The Colors of Rubies: 20 Eyeshadow Color Combos for July
July’s birthstone is ruby, which can run anywhere from pinker, more fuchsia in hue to deeper, brownish-red. The color combinations are inspired by the use of various red-based tones and shades. Hope you find something that you want to try!
About This Series
Each look idea is centered around a “quad” of four shades with the expectation that one might bring in the appropriate brow bone or additional transitional shade based on skin tone. I know that I tend to use more like five or six shades in a typical look, but I think that four is a happy medium to give a good idea of the “core” color scheme of a look while giving you the ability to lighten/darken as desired. I have listed the colors in this order: inner lid, middle of lid, outer lid/crease, and crease/above crease or lid.
You might see combinations that seem slightly repeated but placement will vary (e.g. a halo placement where the lightest and more shimmery shade is placed on the center) as placement can also create a different effect/look! You might also want to consider incorporating your favorite matte/shimmer shades (as applicable) to increase the versatility of certain palettes. Consider these ideas a jumping off point!

0.6 using ND Sunrise is actually a combo I have used on more than several occasions, and it gets complements, too!
I also like certain combos I can put together using the palettes you created with SG. Those look interesting and fun!
These are so pretty – but my favourite turned out to be #16 – the shades from The Horizon palette – which I have ordered.
SNAP, yet again. I didn’t see your comment when I posted mine but 16 is the one I love and On the Horizon is the palette I have (I ordered the “Light” version but they sent me the “Deep” one in error but I think I actually prefer it because of October Odyssey, which is a matte pinky-mauve in the lighter palette but a rich brown/burgundy in the Deep palette, though I think I prefer Infinite Echoes from the lighter palette but not enough to exchange – October Odyssey more than makes up for it). I’m sure you will absolutely adore your palette when you get it. What was the “zing” on shipping to Aus, if you don’t mind me asking?
I love red eye shadow looks! I think I stayed away from them for a long time but now that I’m actually “good” at makeup, I can pull them off without just looking like I’m sick haha!
Some really magical reds among these!
Nice list! I never seem to mix colors any more (so weird, it used to be all I did!), but I have the Bronze Seduction and that looks like a good combo to try!
I love rubies and have a pretty pair of ruby and diamond earrings (costume, not real, alas!) but most of these are not colour combos I can wear, with the exception of 16.0 which – happy dancing – is from the Temptalia palette I have.
