MAC Kajal Crayons Reviews, Photos, Swatches
Flourish Me Deep
MAC Flourish Me Deep Kajal Crayon ($18.00 for 0.05 oz.) is a deep black with neutral-to-warm undertones and a mostly matte finish. The Kajal Crayon formula is designed to “be applied in the waterline for bold, saturated colour in one easy swipe” with long-wear. It had good color coverage in one stroke, and it was fully opaque with just a touch more. The consistency was smooth without being wet or waxy, yet it felt soft and smooth enough against the waterline that it was comfortable to apply while still getting good coverage. It wore well for eight and a half hours on my waterline and ten hours on my lower lash line.

Flourish Me Bold
MAC Flourish Me Bold Kajal Crayon ($18.00 for 0.05 oz.) is a bright, medium-dark cobalt blue with cool undertones and barely-there sheen. It had mostly opaque pigmentation in one stroke with a very smooth consistency. It didn’t feel waxy or particularly soft (as in mushy), almost like a soft powder pencil, so it applied easily to the waterline and did not tug at all while it deposited great coverage on the waterline. This shade lasted for eight hours on my waterline and ten hours on my lower lash line.

Flourish Me Beautiful
MAC Flourish Me Beautiful Kajal Crayon ($18.00 for 0.05 oz.) is a deep, eggplant purple with neutral-to-warm undertones and a mostly matte finish. It had semi-opaque pigmentation in one stroke, and the consistency was soft and smooth but didn’t feel too soft or creamy–it glided on with ease but never seemed like it needed to dry. It went on well on the waterline, and it lasted for eight hours on the waterline and ten hours on the lower lash line.

Flourish Me Vibrant
MAC Flourish Me Vibrant Kajal Crayon ($18.00 for 0.05 oz.) is a bright, medium aqua-teal with cool undertones and a pearly sheen. The consistency was smooth without being waxy or creamy, so while it never tugged and was comfortable to apply even to the more delicate waterline, it didn’t smudge or need to set either. It had semi-opaque pigmentation in one stroke, which was buildable to opaque coverage in two passes. This shade lasted for eight hours on my waterline and ten hours on my lower lash line.

I’ve always wondered, what happens when these styles of kajal crayons get dull? They don’t look like they can be sharpened.
I guess it’s one of those things that depends on how you apply? Kind of like a lipstick might have an angled edge and depending on how you use it, that edge can stay the same or go away.
I think they are supposed to be applied with the eye closed so that usually keeps the tip but but I used to just use a clean tissue and twist the tip to keep it pointed.
WHOA I have never been so impressed by an eyeliner pencil. EIGHT hours in the waterline???? I usually have to use a waterproof concealer for that to happen! If this comes in white and performs well they might have me sold!
Most eyeliners don’t wear that long on me, but I tend to get 4-6 hours on average and then longer-wearing formulas for me are ones like MAC Chromagraphic Pencils, MJB Highliners, and these!
I have really ticklish waterlines that are prone to tearing up if stimulated, and while the rest of my face seems quite resilient, my waterlines are INCREDIBLY sensitive to product. For instance, I have the White Chromagraphic pencil from MAC and I can’t even use it in my waterline because my eyes get watery within 20 minutes of application. I’ve never had any success with a white eyeliner pencil, and black is usually a 50/50 gamble. As crazy as it sounds, I actually use white or black Dermacolor Camouflage Creme (by Kryolan — it’s EXTREME coverage cream concealer) on a liner brush and do my waterline that way. I even set it with coordinating eyeshadow like a traditional foundation. It may seem a bit excessive, but when I tell you it holds, it HOLDS. I’m talking PARTY PROOF.
I find it interesting that these kajal are not the traditional formula but rather a waterproof gel based one. Makes them last longer for sure.
I have a similar issue with things fading one the waterline within 3 hours for most products. I find that MAC’s ChromaLine pots work best for me. 😉
These are beautiful. I’m glad to hear the consistency is so good.
They are!
IDK, have tried dozens and dozens of eye pencils, nothing seems to last more than 1 min on my wet waterline, the longest is probably the Sephora Inner Rim Contour, can get 2-3 hrs out of that. Since MAC has a good return policy, might give the purple one a try
Marc Jacobs Highliners are the longest wearing for me on the waterline, though these are really nice.
Flourish Me Vibrant is a colour that I definitely need!
Yay!
These are really nice! I may try out the black and eggplant shades for a really nicely pigmented deep plum-purple liner as those are few and far between that rate an A anything!
They were a pleasant surprise!
I love Bold so much. I’ve worn it nearly everyday since it arrived. Definitely picking up a backup. Vibrant looked very nice on as well.
How is the wear for you, Celia?
Excellent! The other day I wore Vibrant on the inner corners and Bold as the main liner without any primer or other eye makeup. They lasted through an audition, work lunch, and rehearsal. The waterlines were a bit faded but the lash lines were going strong at 8 hours. So for me it’s similar to Highliner wear which is my longest wearing as well.
8 hours on the waterline? Dang… I might need one.
They wore so well!
Just what I’ve been looking for! I’m going to start with the blue and aqua.
Woohoo! 🙂
They’re all so pretty!! Especially Beautiful – that is such a pretty plum and it rated well.
They were pretty consistent, which was a good thing!
Thanks so much! I had been eyeing the teal one and just hadn’t pulled the trigger. My dark eyes like those bright colors!! Your review makes me want the colbalt blue too!
My p leasure, Janine! 🙂
So far, I’ve never had anything last on my waterline, but maybe these will work? I think I’ll try Flourish Me Bold — I love the color!
Here’s hoping 😀
I am girl crushing on these! I purchased 3 of the black ones, 1 eggplant and 1 cobalt blue . I’m HOPING MAC will make these permanent. THESE ARE THE BEST liners for the waterline ever!!! I’ve tried every liner out there and THESE DO NOT SMUDGE! No more raccoon eyes!
Wow! Three of the black ones!!
Wow these weren’t even on my radar until I read your reviews and grades!!!! Sold! Now I need them. I love fun colored eyeliners and even though I have many, these got better grades then all the ones I have!
I quite liked them! 🙂 I felt like they were brightening and long-wearing!
I wish these weren’t limited edition! I feel like I have eyeliners I should use up before buying any more but that black one and Flourish Me Beautiful seem great!
Wow, I may just need to get that black one 🙂
YAY! This is really good news, so happy to see these ratings.
I bought the teal one; it’s beautiful! MAC really hit it out of the park with this collection 🙂
do these twist-up or anything? or is what you see what you get?
They twist up.
I’m so surprised that these received such high grades! Might need to pick up the black & eggplant. Do you know when this is getting released or which collection this is part of?
It’s already available, and it’s part of the Makeup Art Cosmetics collection!
I’m pleasantly surprised by this product line. I almost exclusively use Chanel waterproof eyeliner due to my watery eyes and it the trick. Look forward to trying one of these MAC liners.
The only product that ever lasted in my waterline THAT long was the Stila Kajal liner.. still can’t believe they discontinued that. I have a shred of black left and it is seriously a grail product for me. But I’m a MAC loyalist so this might be worth it. The price point is NOT bad either – Urban Decay is 4 dollars more!
