Make Up For Ever M102 Artist Rouge Lipstick
Make Up For Ever M102 Artist Rouge Lipstick ($22.00 for 0.12 oz.) is a rich, plum-berry with subtle, warm undertones and a matte finish. This was one of the better shades in the Matte finish; richly pigmented paired with a lightweight, smooth, and velvety consistency that applied easily. The texture didn’t appear dry or unforgiving on the lips, but it didn’t have a strong sheen (though it is not the ultra matte finish of some of the popular liquid lipstick formulas). This shade wore well for over six hours, left behind a fuchsia stain, and was neither drying nor hydrating over time. NARS Trashed (LE, $27.00) is more muted (95% similar). Bobbi Brown Razzberry (P, $37.00) is lighter (90% similar). Urban Decay Nonsense (LE, $18.00) is lighter (95% similar). Illamasqua Shard (P, $24.00) is darker (95% similar). Make Up For Ever M200 Artist Rouge Lipstick ($22.00 for 0.12 oz.) is a medium, peony pink with subtle, warm undertones and a matte finish. The texture had a stronger velvety feel–more like a silicone-based primer–that glided on easily but tended to catch on any imperfections on the lips and emphasized them. It had good color coverage, though it was not fully opaque. On me, this shade wore well for four and a half hours but wore away a bit more noticeably from the center of the lips. I found the formula to be a bit drying as well. ColourPop Spritz (LE, $7.00) is darker (95% similar). Revlon That Girl (P, $12.39) is lighter (95% similar). ColourPop Big Break (P, $7.00) is warmer (95% similar). ColourPop Fetch (LE, $7.00) is lighter, brighter (95% similar). Tom Ford Beauty Virgin Rose (P, $57.00) is glossier (95% similar). KVD Beauty Saint (LE, $20.00) is darker, warmer (90% similar). Maybelline Pink Sugar (P, $7.99) is brighter, warmer (90% similar). Makeup Geek Proper (P, $15.00) is more muted (90% similar). ColourPop Sphynx (P, $10.00) is warmer (90% similar). NARS Marisa (P, $34.00) is glossier (90% similar). Pretty Vulgar Baby Doll Against BS (P, $24.00) is lighter (90% similar). Rare Beauty Energize (P, $20.00) is brighter, warmer (90% similar). Marc Jacobs Beauty Jolly Molly (220) (P, $30.00) is glossier (90% similar). NARS Roman Holiday (P, $27.00) is more shimmery, lighter (90% similar). MAC Love Buddy (LE, $19.00) is lighter (90% similar). Bite Beauty Macaroon (P, $24.00) is darker (90% similar). ColourPop 1st Base (LE, $6.50) is warmer, less glossy (90% similar). ColourPop Prince Charming (LE, $9.00) is darker, cooler (90% similar). ColourPop I Heart That (LE, $8.00) is darker, warmer (90% similar). ColourPop Dilly-Dally (P, $7.00) is warmer (90% similar). Top 20 dupes listed, see the rest. Make Up For Ever M201 Artist Rouge Lipstick ($22.00 for 0.12 oz.) is a bright, medium magenta pink with cool, bluish undertones and a matte finish. It had semi-opaque pigmentation–which was a surprise, as these bolder shades tend to be rather pigmented–that went on decently, but it looked a little grainy and uneven in places. The color lasted for six hours but was moderately drying. Makeup Geek Bunny Hop (LE, $12.00) is more muted (95% similar). KVD Beauty Backstage Bambi (P, $20.00) is lighter, brighter, less glossy (90% similar). KVD Beauty Babe (LE, $21.00) is lighter, brighter, glossier (90% similar). MAC Pop Babe (LE, $18.50) is lighter (90% similar). Sephora Whipped Blush (PiP, $14.00) is lighter, brighter (90% similar). MAC Personal Statement (P, $21.00) is brighter, less glossy (90% similar). KVD Beauty Backstage Bambi (P, $19.00) is brighter (90% similar). Bite Beauty Kimchi (DC, $26.00) is darker, glossier (90% similar). Shiseido Peruvian Pink (RS418) (DC, $28.00) is cooler (90% similar). MAC Be Silly (LE, $19.00) is darker, brighter (90% similar). FORMULA OVERVIEW | Make Up For Ever Artist Rouge Lipstick ($22.00 for 0.12 oz.) is supposed to be long-wearing, “extremely pigmented,” and hydrating. It is available in two finishes–Cream and Matte, indicated by the C or M in the beginning of each shade’s name. The Cream formula is richly pigmented, lightly creamy without being too emollient or slippery, and go on smoothly and feel good while worn (wear ranges from four to eight hours, depending on the shade). The Matte formula is thinner and clings somewhat to lips, though it goes on nicely and doesn’t tug, and it doesn’t always look flattering on as it can emphasize imperfections on my lips but really depends on the shade, as some look great on. I found the Cream formula to be moderately hydrating, while the Matte formula was slightly to moderately drying. All shades had a slight, rosy scent to them, though I didn’t notice any taste.

I like M102 -looks like a muted berry
It does!
As much as I’m not generally a fan of matte lipsticks, 102 looks like my sort of thing entirely.
The color is great! I tend to prefer less matte as well!
Same here!
M102 is a stunner.
It’s nice!
M102 is a stunner. Perfect everyday shade for fall and winter!
Agreed!
I thought for sure that I must have a dupe for M102, but none of the ones listed are in my stash. Surprising, because years ago, and for many years worn, I always owned a shade like this! It was a reliable standby, especially later 90’s- 2010-ish? Sooo, it went on the “list”!
Wow! Not a dupe? That is surprising!
Which means, of course, I need it…maybe? ?
Love 102. Have considered both of the audacious dupes, so it’s in my comfort zone. That one is a slight toe in to the ‘pinked’ family as I go. Not really pink, though, just some pink to it. And, after all, we do have to try new formulas, as makeup explorers. (Getting pretty good at the rationalization game….).
Haha! There are many ways one can justify a dupe…
Christine! M102 looks gorgeous on you! That whole makeup look on you is stunning. You have a warm skin tone but it’s not too warm that you can’t pull off a plum such as this. You are gorgeous!
Thanks, Pamela!
M102 is your color!! I would wear it every day if I were you .. stunning against your skin tone!
I can’t imagine wearing the same color every day, but thank you 🙂
That Berry shade M102 is amazing. Definitely getting that one!!! You wear it so well.
Thanks, Bonnie!
Eeep M102.. I have so many dupes, but I do love that beyoootiful velvet looking texture to these mattes. Wow. Great look, Christine!
Thanks, Wendy!
I agree with everyone else 102M does look beautiful on you! I’m in love with it, I have Nars Vivian an 85% dupe but after checking your comparison swatch feature It’s going on my wish list. They are different enough to justify both. I’m glad it’s permanent though. I’ve started squirreling away money for the urban legend that is the mac Selena collection.
The finishes between the two are definitely pretty different alone!
M102 is stunning I would not have imagined it would looked that good.
I’m surprised I don’t own more dupes to M200 as it seems like a classic pink. I do have 1st Base though.
M102 is a pretty one!
Not only do I love the colors, I love the redesign. I’m so stoked to pick up a few of these.
The tubes are great – practical but different (but not in a weird, dysfunctional way!).
M102 is such a gorgeous berry shade. I don’t think I have a dupe for it, either. I don’t like how the texture looks on the other two shades.
M102 is definitely a smidgen nicer on the lips re: texture!
