Urban Decay Comfort Matte Vice Lipsticks | Swatches + First Impressions

Urban Decay Tilt Vice Lipstick
Urban Decay Tilt Vice Lipstick

Urban Decay Vice Lipstick ($17.00 for 0.011 oz.) is available in six finishes, and this post is highlighting the Comfort Matte finish. A lot of the shades listed under this finish are shades from the previous Matte Revolution range. In general, the colors are very similar (if not exactly the same; see this comparison post for swatches of new vs. old shades that differ), but the Comfort Matte finish is noticeably less dense, slightly more emollient/has more slip and the end result is more of a true satin finish than a matte one when compared to the Matte Revolution formula. To me, the Matte Revolution formula had a more silicone-like feel to it–velvety and smooth but not wet, drier in a way without being dry or stiff–and Comfort Matte feels more like most lipsticks. Like most satin finishes, they tend to wear down to a more semi-matte or matte finish once you have them on for a couple of hours or if you blot lightly/drink from a glass a few times.

My initial impressions are that the formula is lightweight, creamy, does not cling, glides on easily, is very pigmented, is lightly to moderately hydrating, and wears at least four hours on average. Something I noticed was that they tended to appear more satiny once applied than swatched–almost like they “melted” on the lips.

The Comfort Matte finish is creamier and denser than the Mega Mattes, while it is less dense, less tacky, smoother, glide on more readily than the Cream finish. The Sheer and Sheer Shimmer finishes are both thinner and less pigmented (by design), while the Metallized finish has more slip, less pigmentation, and tends to apply better as the tube warms up against the heat of the lips. The Comfort Matte formula seems to be the longer-wearing finish that still offers moderate comfort from start to finish, whereas the Mega Matte formula is thinner, clingier, and is more unforgiving if you have imperfections on the lips and is naturally drier overall, which does translate into drying wear. The Cream finish has more transfer but is cushier on, so it feels more comfortable and seems more hydrating to me overall.

I like the look of this finish. Especially liking Safe Word and Hitch Hike, and still eyeing a lot of the pre-existing shades. When fall comes around I may go ham on these (plan to give wallet a break for summer).

I am *really* excited about some of these! Perversion especially looks great – it would be really nice to have a higher performing black lipstick that isn’t a super matte, liquid formula.

I really love the formula of Iracebeth which is a Comfort Matte. I usually can’t do a true matte, my lips are too dry. So I’m excited some of the colours on my wish list are in this formula. Hoping there’s a similar shade to Iracebeth too. Regretting only buying one backup!

I don’t understand why UD would combine all their lipsticks together. I personally liked that it was previously separated by finish. For me I don’t want to go pilfering threw 100 lipsticks trying to find a finish and color that I like. I don’t have time for that. I feel it just complicates things. I see they have the formula listed but if you get several lip colors from their collection they all look the same so there’s no way to distinguish one from the other.

Most of these look much more like a cream formula than a matte. I’m curious to see if their new formulations are so much better than the Revolution formula’s that made it worth a whole reboot of such a popular line.

I’m sure gonna miss the Matte Revolution formula. Matte without being chalky, long wearing, comfortable, and of course all my favorite shades are sold out. I will say all these new colors are absolutely gorgeous, from classic to on-trend

I love so many, how can I possibly only choose a few?! Definitely going to have to take stock and see which shades are similar to what I already own. I don’t want it to be a repeat of the Nars Audacious lipsticks: There were so many I liked that I could never choose one and so I never got any, lol!

*Perversion* is incredible. I could never pull off a shade like that, but I really love it <3 I'm pretty sure I'll end up with Carnal, possibly 1993 and one of the warmer pinks.

:::squeals like a tween girl::: Tampered and Backtalk!!! Oooooh they hit my lip shade sweet spot dead on! But I love several from this group. Criminal, heartless, afterdark, mosh pit, and perversion I have my eyes on you too.

Hi Christine!! I loved this selection of shades! I would like to ask you something. I am running out of Ruby Woo by MAC and I will not repurchase it since is so drying on my lips. Can you please tell me which is closer in color to Ruby Woo: Bad Blood or 714? I will appreciate your answer,
Thank you!

Hi, these swatch look amazing. I’m looking for a shade to replace my Bad Girl Riri and wondering if any of these Vice lipsticks have a dupe.
