Urban Decay Jawbreaker Vice Lipstick ($17.00 for 0.11 oz.) is described as a “purple [with a Mega Matte finish].” It’s a dark, red-toned purple with a satin finish and very, very fine micro-shimmer. It had semi-opaque coverage that applied unevenly; the consistency was thin and somewhat stiff, which likely made application harder. I would recommend using a lip liner (Urban Decay recommends pairing with Speedball lip pencil) first and then applying with a lip brush to maximize coverage and help even out the color. It lasted for five and a half hours, was lightly drying, and left a strong fuchsia-hued stain behind. This shade is not available at Sephora (will be at all other retailers). It had semi-sheer color payoff that applied evenly, and for a darker shade, just barely darkened lip lines as the consistency has a little density to it. Urban Decay Pandemonium Vice Lipstick ($17.00 for 0.11 oz.) is described as a “bright purple [with a Mega Matte finish].” It’s a dark, red-toned purple with a satin finish and very, very fine micro-shimmer. You might notice my description is very similar to that of Jawbreaker, and to me, they are very similar–this shade is very slightly cooler-toned. Unfortunately, it is also drier, stiffer, and hard to apply evenly. It had slightly better coverage, though still semi-opaque. It lasted for six hours and was lightly drying. Urban Decay Obsessed Vice Lipstick ($17.00 for 0.11 oz.) is described as a “baby pink [with a Sheer Shimmer finish].” It’s a medium pink with cool, bluer undertones and a fine pearly shimmer. It had semi-sheer to semi-opaque pigmentation that applied evenly but welled up in lip lines easily. I would consider using a lip primer or pencil underneath if that’s an issue that bothers you. The texture is a smidgen stiff until it warms up and then starts to feel like it is melting against the lips and is easy to smooth over the lips. Urban Decay Disobedient Vice Lipstick ($17.00 for 0.11 oz.) is described as a “medium pink [with a Cream finish].” It’s a medium pink with neutral-to-cool undertones and a creamy, lightly glossy finish, It had good color payoff with a very creamy, smooth consistency that was comfortable to wear and glided right on. The only issue I had with this shade was that it didn’t seem to smooth out my lips–it accentuated a couple of my larger lip lines (on the bottom lip), whereas some of the better Creams seem to plump them up and make my lips appear smoother. FORMULA OVERVIEW | Urban Decay Vice Lipstick ($17.00 for 0.11 oz.) is available in six finishes, which are primarily distinguished by level of sheen, shimmer content, and coverage. Mega Mattes are the thinnest and have the most “cling” as they are drier and more matte (but most are semi-matte and not a totally flat matte) and can be drying, though they are longer-wearing. Comfort Mattes are creamier, a little denser, with richer color payoff on average (they are the most pigmented out of the finishes), and have a satin finish that is fairly comfortable to wear, usually lightly hydrating, and longer-wearing. Creams are usually softer and creamier, though not too soft (they don’t mush or break from the base easily), with some being tackier and stiffer in the tube until they warm up against the lips; they have good color payoff, are hydrating, and are comfortable to wear but have more typical wear (four to six hours–six hours for deeper/richer shades like a red). Sheers and Sheer Shimmers have a more balm-like consistency that feels a little thinner but is wetter/more emollient than Mega Mattes, so ultimately, they feel quite different applied; they have sheerer coverage, though more semi-sheer to semi-opaque than very sheer, and have the shortest wear time at two to fours with light hydration. Metallized is the most shimmery of the finishes, though some of the other finishes have shades that are actually as shimmery (to me), but the Metallized formula has a thinner, more emollient base that isn’t as dense or as cream-like as the Creams; they feel more like the Sheers but a bit heavier and more pigmented (but seem to run semi-opaque to opaque, not always fully opaque) with average wear (four to five hours), light hydration. The Revolution formula–generally–felt a little more hydrating and pigmented on the lips, but these seem to wear a little longer; some of the shades that were in Revolution and are now in Vice (particularly the Creams, Sheers, and Sheer Shimmers) feel virtually the same on to me. The Comfort Mattes are the only ones that felt largely different–more satiny than matte, less dense compared to Matte Revolution.
A note on packaging: an average Revolution lipstick weighed 1.0 oz. in total, while a Vice Lipstick weighed 0.7 oz. in total. The weight distribution for a Revolution lipstick was: 0.2 oz. for the cap alone, 0.8 oz. for the base. The weight distribution for a Vice lipstick was: 0.2 oz. for the cap alone, 0.5 oz. for the base. The decrease is felt primarily in the sturdiness/weighted feeling of the base, so I find the older Revolutions to stand better on their own, but thrown into a cup or jar for storage, it doesn’t really matter. The more weighted base does give a greater sense of heft when applying, since you hold the base. The caps are the same total weight, but the Revolution caps are shorter and, as a result, maybe 1mm thicker, while the Vice caps are longer and spread the same weight of material over a larger area. All but two out of 120 lipstick caps felt very secure, and then about four were extremely secure and difficult to uncap, but otherwise, there is a soft “click” and the caps seem to stay on without easily coming off. All that being said, they seem to be the same packaging used in the Gwen Stefani and Alice Through the Looking Glass collaborations, though the interior tube felt a little higher-end, even though they all weigh the same. Revolution Lipsticks were $22.00 for 0.09 oz., which works out to be $244.44/oz., and these are $17.00 for 0.11 oz., which works out to be $154.55/oz. So while the packaging does feel less substantial and cheaper, you are paying $5 less and getting more for your money, but if you really liked the heavier base of Revolution lipsticks, you might miss that feeling with the new packaging.

I know, I know, it only scored a puny C+, and yet, I still really want Pandemonium… crazy, huh? I would absolutely use lip liner with it, and I would hope this might be one of those rare times that I’m actually happy about having plummy-brownish “liver lips”. They’re not super dark, but they make wearing many sheerer shades like very off kilter.
Although I could get away with Seismic, because it would just look like My Lips But Glossy. Ugh.
Disobedient looks like a summer sexy shade! Maybe I’ll give it a try-on?

I’m with you, Nance. I direly want Pandemonium too. Check out the dupes… nuttin there having similar boldness and richness so I’m willing to fudge and fix with pencil.
Though I normally like my colors to be true to pan/tube, there’s always something fun about pulling out what looks to be a vampy shade from your purse and putting it on at work. Seismic looks really nice, and is supposed to be sheer anyway, might have to pick it up!

I’m really liking Seismic. Usually I’m not super-into sheers, but it’s dark and pretty enough I think it would look pigmented against my pale lips. I love the color of Pandemonium and Jawbreaker, but I might just stick with my CP Lippie Stick in Grind. I’m still not sold on the Mega Matte finish.

Someone pointed out to me that the description of Pandemonium states that Pandemonium is slighter cooler than Jawbreaker. In the same paragraph, when listing the dupes, it states that Jawbreaker is cooler. Could you please clarify? I sure it was confusing with all the swatches and similar colors. Thank you!

Ok I tried Seismic today…yay! Got a sample in the mail from Ulta (!). It is just what I hoped… reminds me of discontinued clinique black orchid, but less berry, deeper. On me (pale lips) it’s deeper than on you, I think. Still quite sheer of course. Wore off much better than a tinted lip balm, tho with similar sheerness. Still need to try Liquid before I decide which I need of those two. Love dark sheers.

I’m really, really sad over Jawbreaker and Pandemonium 🙁 I love the color, know it will look stunning on me, but each one has major formula issues, and not sure why UD issued 2 colors that are so similar to each other. None of the dupes are all that close, but with so many brands releasing purple lippies nowadays, I’m hoping one of them will be able to come up with better formula in this color. Hey, BITE, are you taking notes? Please dupe this for me, please…….

I recently purchase the vice lipstick shade in “Speedball” and I had the same problem you had that the color did not apply evenly on my lips and although it is a cream finish lipstick it really displayed the lines on my lips. Would you recommend me to just return it to sephora or should I try applying it with the speedball lip liner? Since you’re an expert on these things, I wanted to know your opinion. BTW thank you so much for all your extensive reviews on the lipsticks. I gI’ve you many props for doing all your reviews!
I’m extremely disappointed that the shade didn’t apply evenly. I’ve been trying to find a purple like that for a while but I’m not a big fan of matte liquid lipsticks. I really wish the formula was better because it is such a beautiful shade of purple!
I think a lip liner will work, but is lip liner something you normally wear? Do you have lip liner already – any shade? You could try it underneath to see if it helps before committing to buying another shade to make one work! I would not buy the lip liner if you don’t normally wear it / would only wear it with Speedball.

I usually do wear lip liner when it comes to dark colors like this but I currently only own a nude lipliner from Too Faced and I also bought the UD’s lip liner shade in Cruz to go with the Cruz lipstick that I got. I took your advice and I tried using it with a lipliner on. I put on the nude lip liner from Too Faced all over my lips and then applied Speedball and I noticed that it did help with the color applying more evenly which I was amazed that it made a difference. I do notice however that it still shows the dead skin around my lips so I know that I’m going to definitely have to exfoliate and moisturize my lips before applying the lipstick and lipliner. I have not tried Speedball with the Cruz lipliner yet. Do you think that it would change the lipstick color if I use it with it?
It might lighten it a little bit, since it is lighter, but Speedball is pretty rich in tone that it might still dominate!
