Powder Eyeshadows (Over $10) | 2016 Editor's Favorites

Top 16 of 2016: Powder Eyeshadows (Over $10)

So many new eyeshadows to choose from 2016, but I somehow managed to narrow it down to a very solid 16 (I started with around 36 or so). I reviewed a lot of the Anastasia singles range, which is part of what made it harder to make a really concise best of list this year.

Please help us streamline the comments' section and be more efficient: double-check the post above for more basic information like pricing, availability, and so on to make sure your question wasn't answered already. We appreciate enthusiasm for new releases but ask readers to please hold questions regarding if/when a review will be posted as we can't commit to or guarantee product reviews. We don't want to set expectations and then disappoint readers as even products that are swatched don't always end up being reviewed due to time constraints and changes in priorities! Thank you for understanding!

What a year for choices — I can only imagine the challenges to select just the top few. My two cents — great to see here, in the under $1,, and in palettes listings some mattes (I can wear frosted finishes anymore myself). And, I have lately gotten into MUFE shadows — I know, late to the game — in case useful to others just getting started into the wide world of eyeshadows.

I love that whole slew of new releases from Buxom – I got 5 of the 6 and especially love Dusk til Dawn and Made of Jade. I really like Twilight Tryst too but it is such a “va-voom” shade that I only wear it occasionally and in small doses. I got both Stud and Pygar from Nars but prefer Stud (for anyone wanting but missing out on Pygar, UD’s LE shade “Money” and the left side of Nars Habanera are very close dupes). I’m also really happy with MAC’s Spellbinder in Mysterious Influence (not sure if belongs here or in the cream eyeshadow category so I put it in both) and from Anastasia Beverly Hills, Smoke, Pink Champagne, Gleam, Legend and (I think) Chiffon (but maybe it’s Truffle – I can never remember!)

Anastasia really was the surprise belle of the eyeshadow ball in my estimation this year. I also really liked NARS Dual Intensity shadows for fall. Rigel was the only single I picked up this year that wasn’t to replace something I was running out of, which were Stila Cloud and Kitten. I should have jumped on a few of those Tarte shades 🙁

Just FYI, on the Tarte metallics page, the swatches for grind and shakedown link to one another, not to themselves. These are all super formulas this year.

Sorry, what page do you mean by “Tarte Metallics page” – the review linked? The link to Grind specifically? The Metallics Shadow page?

The images on the Grind product page are correct, and the images on the Shake Down product pages are correct. I’m looking at the review post linked, and I’m seeing the right swatches/photos with the right labels. On the page for Metallics Shadow, I see Grind listed with the correct thumbnail and going to the correct page and then Shakedown is also using the right thumbnail and going to the right page. I also checked the Metallics Shadow swatches page, and I’m not seeing any issue where they are using the wrong images or linking to the wrong page.

Can you give me the link so I can start looking into it? I can’t find it on my own apparently!
