Editor's Review

The Metallic Shadow formula is supposed to have “smooth payoff” that have “lasting vibrancy with no fallout” and are “ultra-pigmented.” They are also designed to be removable, so you can easily put them into an empty palette. The original set of shades were released in plastic compacts, but the most recent release featured them in cardboard compacts. The formula is typically very pigmented, smooth, and blendable with good wear (around eight hours).

I’ve never been keen about red toned eyeshadow until falling for UD’s Weirwood Leaves. I have several of these Tarte metallic singles and love this formula so figured this burgundy brown shadow would be a safe bet. It’s more than just safe; it’s gorgeous and I love wearing it, especially at this time of year (autumn). It pairs beautifully with other lighter coloured neutrals in gold, ivory or beige.

I bought this to be a dupe for some favourite LE shadows that I fear using up. I really enjoy the other Tarte Metallic shadows I have but am sorely disappointed in this one. It's not at all like it appears in the pan when it's applied. Rather than a pearly while shade (or even light beige), this takes on a weirdly yellow/golden tone and that's not at all what I was looking for. In terms of texture, pigmentation and creamy smooth application, Pin-Up is every bit as good as the other in this line but it's the colour itself that has disappointed me.

Simply gorgeous. When these first launched, they weren't available in-store in Canada but a while back, I noticed them in-store at Sephora and bought 3 shades (Shake Down, Grind and Pin Up) and I'm happy with all 3 of them. Shake Down is a gorgeous golden taupe shade....not as dark as the "golden bronze" of Temptalia's description might lead you to think. It's a really wearable colour that looks great on its own but is also very adaptable in combination with other shadows. But I love this as an all over the lid/one and done look, perhaps with something matte and a bit darker in the crease. I also love that these are packaged in such a way as to be easy to "depot" and put into a larger palette for travel or just for convenience.
