Tarte Poker Face Metallics Shadow
Tarte Poker Face Metallics Shadow ($14.00 for 0.07 oz.) is a muted, medium-dark lavender mauve with subtle, warmer undertones and a metallic sheen. Tarte Scarlet Metallics Shadow ($14.00 for 0.07 oz.) is a deep plum with warm, reddish undertones and a soft, frosted finish. It was one of the less shimmery shades in the range, but it had more noticeable sparkle. I didn’t find it to suffer from fall out over time, though, so that was a happy surprise. This shade was richly pigmented with a very soft, smooth consistency that bordered on too soft, but it didn’t get dusty or sheer out too easily. On me, it started to crease after eight and a half hours of wear. Bobbi Brown High Octane (P, $38.00) is cooler (90% similar). Tarte Sinful Metallics Shadow ($14.00 for 0.07 oz.) is a deep, taupe-brown with warm undertones and a metallic sheen. It had rich color payoff with a smooth, cream-like texture that was soft without being too loose in the pan. The consistency adhered well to bare skin while blending out with ease. This shade wore well for eight and a half hours on me. MAC Rebellious (LE, ) is lighter (95% similar). Chanel City Lights #3 (LE, ) is darker, cooler (95% similar). FORMULA OVERVIEW | Tarte Metallics Shadow ($14.00 for 0.07 oz.) is a new, limited edition formula (boo!hiss!) that is available in 11 shades. Each eyeshadow comes in an oversized plastic compact with a clear lid, but the eyeshadow pan is actually removable; the only downside is that the pan itself isn’t labeled, so if you move yours into a freestyle palette system, I would make sure to add labels to the bottoms! The formula is soft, smooth, slightly dense, and very pigmented; a little went a long way, but it wasn’t so soft that it turned powdery or had a lot of fall out to contend with, though there was a little excess kicked up in the pan. They were very blendable and easy to apply to bare skin, and I didn’t notice a difference in payoff or texture when applied over primer or over bare skin. The formula wore between seven and eight hours for me (no primer).
There’s not much information about these posted on Tarte’s website, and in their email newsletter, it just mentioned “highly-pigmented,” but given that they typically advertiser their formulas (for eyeshadows) as long-wearing, I did test without primer for consistency. I’ll check back as I continue to review other shades to see if they make additional claims/updates.

Oh no, I’m in big trouble! All of them look gorgeous and scored A’s. I want all of them, but will have to narrow it down. I don’t think I have anything like Scarlet in my stash. And maybe Sinful, if I don’t buy MUG Steampunk. Love your rich, dramatic eye look!
They’ve been really easy to work with so far!
I did not know these are limited edition. Why would Tarte do that?! They really need to have a consistent permanent shade that has more than palettes. I am not as excited to buy these if they are LE.
I have no idea! I wish they were permanent.
This EOTD look is beyond beautiful!!! I am thinking that with TF Honeymoon, but adding in a pinky warm taupe, could *possibly* get me there? I hope? Because this is definitely a hazel and green eye friendly look, for certain!
( I will most likely also be getting MUG Steampunk at the same time as I go for TF Honeymoon quad)
Thank you so much, Nancy! 🙂
Beautiful, but such a waste of packaging.
They are oversized for sure!
The fact that these are LE is criminal. PUT THEM ALL IN A PALETTE TARTE!
Haha!
YESSS!
Hahaha! Yess!
How large are the pans when out of the casing? Do you think they would fit in a MAC case?
They’re 26mm in diameter!
They’re really so pretty! I wish they had made quads or at least duos with these shadows. I don’t like to buy singles because of the waste of drawer space – at least these can pop out of their compacts but it’s still a waste of plastic packaging.
I usually recycle the plastic components 🙂
I love Poker Face and Scarlet. These shadows are just beautiful.
They are lovely!
These are so pretty! Why must Tarte’s best eyeshadows be limited edition?!
I don’t knoww! 🙁
Me likey Poker Face 🙂
Yay!
This is such a gorgeous range – I think Tarte should make a palette of these. They are so beautiful and I love your look.
That would be a great idea!
Oh man, these look amazing. Tarte is really impressing me lately. I don’t really care for the excessively huge packaging, but I will def be snapping a few of these up. I hope they don’t sell out too fast, it’s annoying that they are LE. I wonder if they will release them permanently if they sell well.
The packaging definitely seems oversized. I am curious whether that’s by choice or function (to make them removable).
Are these the same formula as the Rainforest of the Sea palette?
No, they are different.
When will these hit sephora stores?
Tarte’s Instagram says July 8th.
I’m kicking myself for only getting one! I don’t usually de-pot things but i really dislike the bulky packaging! I didn’t see a hole in the back, what’s the best way to get it out? Thanks for your help 🙂 your eye look is absolutely amazing!!
I used tweezers to lift the pan’s edge up 🙂
Such pretty colors. I love your application very much too.
Thanks a lot, Susan!
Sinful and Poker Face are calling me!
Awesome 😀
GORGEOUS! All of ’em!!! <3
Yay!
Christine, I’m wondering if you know when these will be available at either Macy’s or Sephora. I leave Sunday for NYC and really want to get at least 2 or 3 of these and if they’re at Macy’s or Sephora in the US by then, I stand a chance of getting them (there is nothing on the Canadian Sephora site showing these beauties but I’m hoping they’ll be available at US stores).
Tarte is saying 7/3 online Ulta.com, 7/5 online Sephora.com, and I think in-store dates look like Sephora on 7/8 and Ulta on 7/10…
great read, so simple and easy to understand. Thank you
Thanks!
Are the pans the same size as Mac? Just wondering if they would fit in the inserts in the pro palette. I hate not having all my eyeshadows in one place, feels cluttered to me, and I have been getting rid of all my palettes and just using a custom mac palette instead…don’t really know what else I could put in them besides makeup geek and I’m not interested in that brand. Really interested in picking some of these up when they get to sephora!
They’re 26mm!
these are gorgeous. scarlet is totally the type of color i have a million of. and your eye look is exactly what i would do as well! love burgundy/reddish colors with purple liner.
Thank you, Amara! 🙂
Wow! These look very impressive and the depth of colour on your eye is stunning!
They are very intense!
Ah! I want those in a quad! Soooo pretty
That would be a pretty quad!
