YSL Or Cuivre & Rosewood Star Rouge Pur Couture Lipsticks Reviews & Swatches
Or Cuivre (340)
YSL Or Cuivre (340) Rouge Pur Couture SPF15 Lipstick ($36.00 for 0.13 oz.) is a medium, rosy copper with warmer undertones and a metallic finish. It was on the border of being more frosted, as it emphasized my lip texture just slightly; I felt like from afar, it wasn’t noticeable, but it’s noticeable in the close-up photos. The texture was thin, a little bit firmer in the tube, and I felt like I had to let it warm up against my lips to avoid any dragging, though it certainly wasn’t painful to use. This shade stayed on well for four and a half hours and was lightly hydrating over time.

Formula Overview
$38.00/0.13 oz. - $292.31 Per Ounce
The formula is supposed to have "rich color with intense hydration ... in just one stroke." The lipstick has moderate slip--some shades are fairly emollient and can feel slippery during wear, while many are creamy but adhere well enough.
I've found that more mid-tone and deeper shades have better applications with smoother, more forgiving color that was semi-opaque or higher in coverage. Some of the lighter and the very deepest shades were more prone to settling into lip lines or yielding more medium to semi-opaque coverage.
The wear ranged from four to six hours on average. I found the formula was usually on the hydrating side. There was a sweet, floral scent with a very subtle taste, though I felt like it sometimes gave me a taste and other times, I didn't notice anything.

Or Cuivre (340)
LELimited Edition. $38.00.
Rosewood Star (98)
YSL Rosewood Star (98) Rouge Pur Couture SPF15 Lipstick ($36.00 for 0.13 oz.) is a medium plum with cooler undertones and a satin sheen. It had excellent color payoff in one, fluid stroke, which adhered smoothly and evenly on my lips without emphasizing my lip lines and seemed forgiving of minor imperfections in texture. The consistency was lightly creamy but not slippery, so it didn’t slide around during wear but was still comfortable to have on. It lasted well for four and a half hours and was lightly moisturizing while worn.

I’ve had this odd sense of confusion every time I see a closeup of these bullets on Temptalia. These lipsticks don’t have the upscale look of YSL, and I just figured out why: The star design looks like Colourpop Lux!
Both look good, just not “wowzers, I need that!” level of good. Rosewood Star would be a very solid daytime friendly, more conservative option, though. Then again, I have CP Berry Me In Lipsticks for that purpose.
Christine,
How does this compare with regular Or Cuivre (no stars embossing)? This is one of my two favorite bronze lippies (patmcgrath balm is the other), my version doesn’t have spf though so far as I know ..
Sorry, this is the only one I have that I’m aware of? I don’t recognize the name by memory, but my brain is weak, so I searched and couldn’t find any previous reviews for it.
Yea it’s a staple shade, I first got it a few years ago. Since there are no previous reviews there is no basis for comparison. I’ll just have to try it out and report back if there’s a difference!
I’m so sorry I wasn’t able to help you!
No worries!
Rosewood Star is lovely but I have both of the Colourpop dupes already, so I’m definitely set.
Still find it hilarious that you can buy a lipstick pretty much exactly like this for $7 but both ends of the market, hey. 🙂
Or Cuivre is my perfectly beautiful bronze shade….love, love and love.
Wow! Or Cuivre is a stunner! Right on the line between rose gold and copper.
There is a sale on YSL through 11/11 with code LOVEME for 40% off. I stocked up on my Or Cuivre (sans stars) and stick foundation (which is on backorder but went through with discount). Looks a big chunk of their inventory on legit 40% sale.
