After-Prune (97)

YSL After-Prune (97) Rouge Pur Couture SPF15 Lipstick ($36.00 for 0.13 oz.) is a deep plum with subtle, warm undertones and a natural sheen. It had good pigmentation in a single layer, while the texture was moderately creamy with some slip; it had enough slip that it glided a bit too easily across my lips and needed more care to ensure application stayed neatly within the lip line, though I didn’t experience feathering or bleeding. The color went on evenly and stayed on well for five and a half hours, left a faint stain behind, and felt hydrating over time.

Formula Overview

$38.00/0.13 oz. - $292.31 Per Ounce

The formula is supposed to have "rich color with intense hydration ... in just one stroke." The lipstick has moderate slip--some shades are fairly emollient and can feel slippery during wear, while many are creamy but adhere well enough.

I've found that more mid-tone and deeper shades have better applications with smoother, more forgiving color that was semi-opaque or higher in coverage. Some of the lighter and the very deepest shades were more prone to settling into lip lines or yielding more medium to semi-opaque coverage.

The wear ranged from four to six hours on average. I found the formula was usually on the hydrating side. There was a sweet, floral scent with a very subtle taste, though I felt like it sometimes gave me a taste and other times, I didn't notice anything.

Dazzling Carmin (95)

YSL Dazzling Carmin (95) Rouge Pur Couture SPF15 Lipstick ($36.00 for 0.13 oz.) is a medium, brighter plum with moderate, warm undertones and a satin finish. The lipstick had rich color coverage that applied evenly and smoothly across my lips without tugging. The texture was lightweight, creamy without being too slippery, and didn’t emphasize my lip lines. It wore well for five and a half hours and felt lightly moisturizing while worn.

Be still my heart. Both of these are gorgeous and so in my wheel house as far as shades go. I can’t remember if I have Pat McGrath Executive Realness and I am not at home to check. I know I intended to purchase it but can’t remember if I actually did. That is the obvious problem with having way too many lipsticks and so many in a particular colour family. If not, I am purchasing both of these. I just sprung for two of the Lisa Eldridge lipsticks this morning when her pre-order went live. I picked up one for me and one for my daughter. I am likely just going to sit and stare at mine for a couple of months before ruining the finish!!
