Urban Decay Vape Moondust Eyeshadow
Urban Decay Vape Moondust Eyeshadow ($21.00 for 0.05 oz.) is a very light pewter with subtle, cooler undertones and a warmer, pink glitter and shift. The texture was slightly glittery but smooth overall, and it was blendable on the skin without resulting in a lot of fallout. It had semi-sheer coverage applied dry, which had minimal fall out over time. Damp application yielded opaque coverage that wore well for eight hours and had almost no fallout. Urban Decay Stellar Moondust Eyeshadow ($21.00 for 0.05 oz.) is a medium-dark coppery-brown with strong, warm undertones and tons of chunky gold and molten gold glitter. It had semi-sheer coverage with a looser, glittery texture when used dry, which resulted in some fall out while worn. When I tried it damp, the color intensified to mostly opaque coverage and had a smoother appearance on the lid, while the wear time was better with only a bit of noticeable fallout. Urban Decay Crux Moondust Eyeshadow ($21.00 for 0.05 oz.) is a medium-dark bluish-teal with a stronger blue base paired with lighter green, greenish-teal, and gold glitter. This shade was harder to work with dry, as the glitter really separated away from the base and had a tendency to look like dirt sitting on top. When applied damp, the base color intensified and the glitter became more cohesive with the color, which gave it a smoother, more blended appearance. I had a lot of fall out when I used this shade dry, but I had very little when I used it damp (tested over an eight-hour period). NABLA Cosmetics Quiet Storm (PiP, ) is cooler (90% similar). MAC Bikers & Babes (LE, ) is lighter (90% similar). Viseart Poseidon (GPV2 #9) (P, ) is darker, cooler (90% similar). Dose of Colors Teal Me More (P, $20.00) is darker, cooler (85% similar). It had semi-sheer coverage that lasted for eight hours with minor fall out when applied dry. It had mostly opaque coverage that wore well for eight hours with almost no fall out when applied damp. The texture was fairly smooth, lightly blendable, and had a visible color base on the lid. Sydney Grace Force of Nature (LE, $6.25) is darker (90% similar). FORMULA OVERVIEW | Urban Decay Moondust Eyeshadow ($21.00 for 0.05 oz.) is specifically designed to be over-the-top sparkly with “minimal fallout” and sheerer coverage dry, more “intense color payout” when applied wet. I like using flat, synthetic brushes (or fingertips, as the brand suggests) that have been slightly dampened by a spritz of just water. If you want extra-long hold, I would still recommend a glitter adhesive, but I get pretty good wear with little fall out without any primers or adhesive, as the formula has a smoother, almost wet consistency. They work better combined with other eyeshadows than using several at once, and they tend to look more impressive in person than in still photos. Some shades are better than others; the ones with stronger base colors even when applied dry tend to have the least fallout over time.

The dry swatches don’t impress. But applied wet the colors look great. And if you say they’re more impressive IRL then I believe you 🙂
These are definitely better damp/wet if you want to use them as a base color! Dry works better over a cream base/product or just patted over an eyeshadow for some sparkle.
As soon as I saw the initial swatch for Stellar, I thought…. “that looks like NARS Outer Limits on steroids!” And yep, I was right. I have Tom Ford Sphinx, but it doesn’t look that similar, has a pink duo chrome shift and the shimmer is finer. Dang, Stellar’s a hard one to dupe, looks like it’s going on my wish list, which is becoming the same as my buylist nowadays!
Sphinx isn’t particularly close, but it’s in the neighborhood – normally, if there are 20 90%+ dupes, I don’t bother looking for lower dupes, but in this case, there weren’t that many at all!
Omg, I just re-read your review on Crux –the glitter in the dry swatch does look like dirt! Yikes, gives new meaning to the “grunge” look LOL
What a shame that Crux didn’t perform better – it’s one of the ones that really interested me. Stellar looks way nicer on your eyes than I’d ever have expected from how it looks in the pan…now I’m thinking it might be one I want to check out.
Stellar is an interesting one!
Crux was nice for me as a layering color. I used it over UD Flipside shadow and it gave sort of a mermaid effect…very pretty!
These are beautiful. I really like Vape and Crux. I wear Moondust shadows over a sticky base, so fall out doesn’t concern me.
I expect these will work great over an adhesive base! Which one do you normally use with UD’s Moondusts?
I’ve been using the e.l.f. Glitter Primer.
I didn’t think too much of Stellar reading the description and seeing the swatch, but on your eyes – wow! It looks beautiful and really brings out the gold in your eyes. 🙂
It is really interesting!
Love the application you used. I would never think to do half of the things you do! Beautiful.
Thank you, Susan! 🙂
It is truly like art in real life. The combinations are almost limitless. Just absolute eye candy.
Even with needing the extra TLC, these are all so pretty and I’m still considering pick up a few of these pressed mica glitters. 😉
They are! I like how they look in person more than in photos, lol! Typical!
Stellar is amazeballs! Wow! And not easily dupeable either; WIN!
But Crux . Oh my. I do still want it, but ONLY to use wet, over a dark base. Then again, I do have UD Junkie within Spectrum….hmm.?
You could try Junkie for a bit and see if it satisfies/replicates the look you want! 🙂
They are gorgeous colours and I love the Crux one the best. I think you would have to apply them with a damp brush to get the most out of the sparkles as it would be a night time look. A beautiful eye look you have done Christine.
Yes, damp is definitely the way to go!
I absolutely love the look you did with these Christine!
Thanks, Eriu! 🙂
Vape is so gorgeous! I recently got the nyx eye shadow base in the shade white and it intensifies the colour of every eye shadow I ever had. These look like they will be better used either wet or over such colour intensifying eye shadow bases.
NYX Milk is pretty crazy in how well it amplifies color!
I surprisingly have never tried NYX Milk but Christine, when you say it, I really want to try it out for sure.
Even though the products didn’t perform that well, the eye look you created is amazing!
Thanks, Catherine! I think these types of products tend to look their best with an adhesive as well as used as an accent with more satin/matte finishes!
I was really considering buy Tom Ford Last Dance for the blue shade but Crux seems to be close enough! However, it seems hard to work with dry so I’m not sure…
Tough choice!
Crux and Vape are my faves, but the fallout from Crux would drive me insane. I hate applying shadows damp, too, because they are more likely to cease on me. I’ll have to check it in person and see how I like it.
Totally understand, Veronica! If you have a glitter adhesive, that’s probably your best bet – you won’t have to use it damp then!
At first glance, Stellar immediately reminded me of the recently released Rose Gold by Buxom, with its coppery base and gold shimmer. Not quite the same, though – and Rose Gold is definitely less chunky.
I can see why you thought of Rose Gold!
Holy crap. The wet Crux swatch is jaw dropping! :O
It is much improved damp!
I’m actually on a mission to create my own lipgloss using eyeshadows. These are on my list to use. I’m not entirely sure which are not lip safe, but I’m doing some research (and experimenting) before proceeding. These are pricy so I have to make sure it works okay and won’t burn my lips off before I shell out the money. And… let’s face it, I’m looking for cheaper dupes that maybe are already listed as lip safe.
Fingers crossed! But you might look into loose cosmetic glitter (that is lip safe) 🙂 Probably cheaper!
Loving Vape. I wish Crux was better, it’s got such nice colors in it.
Crux does have a lot of dimension!
Do you know if these shades will be sold at Sephora?
These are exclusive to Urban Decay’s website.
Those look beautiful on you! I wear Space Cowboy everyday with my neutral Bobbi brown eyeshadows! I wear it in the corner of my eye to add brightness! I always use the UD primer and never experience fallout. Just an much needed lightness to my eyes!
Nice!
Vape looks nearly identical to UD’s Verve to me.
However, since I love glitter and Verve is one of my favorites, I’m tempted.
Like Verve on steroids, lol!
