Naked Cherry

Urban Decay Naked Cherry Eyeshadow Palette ($49.00 for 0.456 oz.) is the newest in the Naked series and features a mix of corals and plums. The formula across both the shimmers and mattes seemed drier; the mattes were thinner and drier, often on the powdery side and needed to be built up more, while the shimmers looked less shimmery once they were applied and blended out on my lid. The impact of some of the shimmers losing their reflective quality was that a lot of them ended up looking too similar on my lid, so the resulting looks were more prone to looking a little muddy.

Hot Spot

Hot Spot is a pale beige with subtle, warm undertones and a matte finish. The eyeshadow had nearly opaque pigmentation in a single layer with a soft, lightly powdery consistency that remained blendable with just a touch of fallout if I wasn’t careful. It stayed on nicely for seven and a half hours on me before fading noticeably.

Formula Overview

$19.00/0.05 oz. - $380.00 Per Ounce

The formula is typically described as "high-pigment" that "stays on your lids" and goes on "seamlessly." Their permanent range has a lot of fantastic shades in it, and many of them are pigmented, blendable, and long-wearing. Some of their matte are real workhorse kind of shades with soft, smooth, silky, and blendable textures, while their shimmers and pearly shades are very rich in payoff and apply beautifully to the lid. They wear between seven and nine hours on me, depending on the shade and finish.

Caution

Caution is a soft, peachy beige with warm, yellow undertones and a matte finish. It had good color payoff with a soft, lightly powdery consistency. It applied evenly to bare skin and blended out without issue. It lasted for just over seven and a half hours on me.

Bang Bang

Bang Bang is a soft, pink-coral with gold and pink sparkle over a pearly sheen. It had semi-sheer pigmentation that was hard to build up without using an eyeshadow primer or a dampened brush. The texture was drier but didn’t feel loosely pressed… just a bit dry and dusty. It blended out decently but looked lasterluster applied compared to how it appeared in the pan. It wore well for seven hours on me before fading noticeably.

Turn On

Turn On is a soft, rosy copper with warm undertones and a frosted sheen. It had excellent color payoff that adhered evenly and smoothly to bare skin with a bright, shiny finish that stayed shiny over time (unlike some of the other shimmers in the palette). The texture was more loosely pressed in the pan, but it was easy to use and was blendable on my lid. This shade wore well for eight hours on me before it started to fade noticeably.

Ambitious

Ambitious is a medium-dark copper with warm, reddish undertones and a pearly sheen. It had opaque pigmentation with a smooth, lightly creamy texture that was very blendable on my lid. Something I noticed, however, was that it wasn’t very metallic on my lid–it lost a lot of shine, even if I used it with a wet brush. It wore well for seven and a half hours on me before fading.

Young Love is a bright, medium plum with warm, coppery undertones and cooler, pink shimmer. The texture was drier and more firmly-pressed in the pan, which made it harder to apply to bare skin. It had good pigmentation but the shimmer seemed to dust away as I applied and blended it out on my lid, so it looked more satiny and less shiny. It had rich color payoff that adhered well to bare skin, but I noticed that it did not appear as metallic after a few minutes–it looked more satiny. Otherwise, the color stayed on nicely for eight hours on me.

Privacy

Privacy is a deep, reddish-brown with subtle, warm undertones and a matte finish. It had semi-opaque color payoff that applied fairly evenly to bare skin and did not take too much effort to blend out (though it could have been easier). The texture was soft, drier, and somewhat dusty, which led to it sheering out a bit too readily in practice. It lasted well for seven and a half hours before it faded noticeably on my lid.

Oh, no! I had such high hopes for this palette. I wonder if I can use a good, extra sticky primer with this (like I have with some other underperforming palettes) and make it work.

This palette has me in a state of extreme indecision. I absolutely love the whole color scheme for my eye color and general coloring, as well. However, all the “best” tutorials I have watched of beauty vloggers using this, have them using primer and dampening their brush with Fix+ for the shimmery shades. I do use primer, so that’s nothing to deter me. But; wetting my brush for almost every single shimmer? I don’t know how I feel about that. For me, the jury is still out for now.

This looks close enough to Colourpop’s She palette and Huda’s Rose Gold remastered of which I have both so I think I’m covered. I know they’re not exact dupes but they’re close enough. I do love that lipstick

Somehow, after Backtalk, I thought this would be a significant improvement. At least the blushes were pretty good in Backtalk…. It’s pretty sad that you are better off looking to ColourPop for this general shade family. It is no longer true that you can rely on what you believe you can, ‘historically.’

What has happened to Urban Decay??? I was so so SO excited for this palette! The pink themes just called to me, reminds me of trending looks in Korea and China, I love, love, LOVE those kinds of looks so I was so ready to pick this up and start rocking the trend. But…ugh! That’s a disappointment… I’ll have to keep looking elsewhere :\

Thank you for just saving me $48! I don’t care for matte colors and thought the shiny colors in this palette were pretty AND for a change they didn’t contain carmine, so I was considering it although I would probably not have used the matte colors. Now that I read your review about how even the shiny colors don’t come out looking shiny, I can tuck that money back into my wallet! No point spending the money if the product would be so disappointing.
Thanks!! : ) I’m glad I waited until reading your review before getting my own and being disappointed in it.

I am still on the fence leaning ‘no’. A few of the shades I do want — Juicy, Bing, Feelz — but pretty mediocre ratings (and Feelz at a C is not so good), and for 3 shades, it’s probably not worth it. Also, I have Viseart Liaison (in the Tryst palette), so I’m probably fine for pinks, if I really think about it.

Jessy Avatar

I have similar thoughts with the Naked Heat- all of them blended together end up looking similar and muddy. The redeeming quality of this is a lower price than the standard $54. But will give this one a pass.

Sue Avatar

When the palette was first announced, I was excited, yet quickly realized the colors would make me look like I had pinkeye. Not a look I’m aiming for. Really disappointed that this is (?) UD’s answer to “Why don’t you make a cool-toned Naked palette?” Thanks for the thorough review, money saved.

Genevieve Avatar

What a disappointment this palette is! Not the A+ of Naked 1, which it is presumably replacing, but an average palette of underperforming shades. Not only do many of these shades look like each other, but they are not as described either. A lot of money will be saved here from your honest review Christine.

Susan E Nevling Avatar

I wanted to want this as I have almost all the Naked Palettes but wasn’t sure about color. Since it’s mediocre on top of that, I won’t miss it.

Deborah S. Avatar

Thank you for this review, Christine. I hadn’t seen much of this palette except on IG and was thinking that I would really like it. It definitely has a colour story that I love and while I have dupes for some of the shades I don’t have for many of them. My initial concern was that they would be so similar that they would blend together and really end up looking like just one shade on the lid. I think this could work with a good gripping primer, Fix + on the brush and bringing in a few other shades from other palettes to flesh it out a little but who wants to do all of that. I think if the palette really speaks to someone they would be willing to do all of that and it likely will be a good palette for them. It isn’t horrible but I think I will pass. I will check it out in store when I finally get to Missoula.

Susana B. Avatar

I usually make a decision about things after reading your reviews, but this time I’m still undecided. I passed on Backtalk because of the awful quality of the eyeshadows, and I don’t want to be disappointed on this… so I’m going to wait until it’s in stores and swatch it there.
I always use primer, so the issue of the shadows looking more satiny than shiny wouldn’t be a problem, but… still horribly undecided. Urban Decay was my go-to brand for eyeshadows and eye pencils, and it’s failing me big time.
Thanks a lot for the review!!!

This will be the first full-size Naked Palette that I am not purchasing.I have been disappointed in most of their releases since the full sized Naked Heat which is the last palette of theirs I bought. I tried the Waterproof All Nighter Powder and I love it and it does help keep your makeup looking fresh in situations where your getting splashed or around water! I tested it out during my trip to Niagara Falls.Born to Run had several shades like Punk,Riff, Smog,Radio, and Jet that I already have in my collection from past UD palettes Riff is a single.Too many repeats to justify buying it.I just really haven’t been getting excited when they release palettes lately and it sucks because years ago they were my favorite brand for palettes.

Geauxgirl Avatar

I think most of the shades are beautiful. I thought of buying this, but knew I would never use the whole pallett. I’m so glad I didn’t purchase it. It doesn’t seem worth the money. I read your blog daily, Christine. I don’t usually make a purchase until I’ve read it. Thank you for doing it. ❤️

Astrid Avatar

As much as the color story appeals to me, I think I’ll pass and buy the dupes that are of a higher quality. I thought that I would have the whole palette duped since I like reds, plums, and burgundys, but I don’t.

Krista Avatar

For a “cherry” themed palette, this sure has a lot of browns and corals. Disappointing IMO. If I do buy this it will be once it goes on sale. It seems that the majority of the UD palettes I’ve bought recently have gone on sale shortly after I could no longer return them.

Judith Avatar

I wasn’t really interested in the color scheme to begin with, but this is so disappointing for everyone who was. I can’t believe they made THIS to replace the Naked Original.
I don’t understand why Urban Decay’s outstanding shadow quality had to go downhill. There have been so many bad releases lately. Good for my wallet, but sad, still.
Thanks for your perfect review, as always, Christine!

Jiselaz Avatar

I have a soft spot for the UD Naked palette so I’m definitely getting this one. I’ve seen some tutorials using this palette and used over a good eyeshadow primer this palette preformed really good . Plus this color story is perfect for hazel eyes.

Suzan Avatar

I dont agree with you the looks are beautiful and not muddy..
However the only disappointment is that the light shimmers are repetitive such as turn on and bang bang i already have them in sweet peach palette and dessert dusk
