Urban Decay Amplify & Boom Lo-Fi Lip Mousse Reviews & Swatches
Amplify
Urban Decay Amplify Lo-Fi Lip Mousse ($22.00 for 0.12 oz.) is a deep, slightly muted, red with cool undertones and a matte finish. It had buildable coverage from sheer to opaque depending on application and how much one applies. The color applied evenly across my lips and didn’t accentuate the texture of my lips or gather in my lip lines. The consistency was dense, velvety, and felt like a powder when the product met my lips, which felt “dry” as a result, though the formula didn’t feel drying over time. It was very lightweight and stayed on well for six hours.

Formula Overview
$22.00/0.12 oz. - $183.33 Per Ounce
Per the brand, the formula is supposed to be "weightless, buildable, [and] waterproof" with a "velvety soft finish that feels like you're wearing nothing." The consistency of the product inside the compact feels like clay--it's drier but malleable, movable with a fingertip that will create a dip while moving the product upward to the outer edge. It feels like a powder when the product gets applied to the lips, which has a drier, clingier feeling, though I wouldn't consider it a drying formula--it was quite lightweight and non-drying over time. A few shades emphasized the natural texture of my lips quite noticeably (Halo being the worst offender) but others applied well and looked like a blotted, matte lipstick. The lipsticks lasted between three and six hours; they do seem to be waterproof and don't break down with drinking water or hot tea, but they don't survive through meals that well.
Each compact opens up with a mirror inside, and there's a doe-foot applicator that removes from the center portion of the compact for on-the-go application. I was not personally enthused with the doe-foot applicator as I found it only useful for getting the cupid's bow but not particularly useful for even application all over my lips. I preferred to use a fingertip to distribute the most product initially and then use the included applicator to get around the edges. For medium coverage, I recommend patting color in three pats on the upper and lower lip, then lightly brush the fingertip across the lips to blend out the product. For sheerer coverage, try patting color along the center of the lips and then rubbing lips together to diffuse the coverage.

Boom
Urban Decay Boom Lo-Fi Lip Mousse ($22.00 for 0.12 oz.) is a deep berry with subtle, cool undertones and a faint pearl over a more matte finish. It had buildable coverage from sheer to semi-opaque that applied evenly across my lips. The texture was very lightweight, thin, and powder-like once on my lips, though the lip product itself was more like clay in the pan/pot–movable but dense. It did accentuate my lip texture, though, and gave my lips a more shriveled appearance. The color stayed on well for five hours, was non-drying, and seemed to be waterproof as it didn’t come away on my glass or break down by drinking water.

Did you use a lip brush to apply these, Christine? I was surprised by the packaging as I don’t want to always carry a lip brush around with me!
No, I used my fingertips and the included applicator.
Thank you, Christine. I didn’t realize they came with an applicator.
Anything that would apply to the product at large (like all shades), e.g. overall on how the formula performs, what it’s supposed to do, etc. will be under “Formula overview.” Hope that helps!
Boom is such a pretty color! I’m hoping a dot of lip balm won’t break it down
It should help without destroying it but will lose some of that transfer-resistant quality!
Boom looks so uncomfortable! Amplify is very pretty, but I prefer to use lip color either in stick form or with a doe foot applicator. Did this stain your fingers?
I saw a YT video in which a woman was applying one of these products only to the center of her lips. I thought it looked kind of strange and unflattering. But then again, I thought that blue lipstick was strange and unflattering the first time I saw it, too, and now I own one that I absolutely love! ĀÆ\_(ć)_/ĀÆ
No, it didn’t stain my fingers. I just wiped my fingertip off on a makeup removing wipe!
Amplify is probably one of the few out of these that I could conceivably see myself using as an actual lipstick! It is really beautiful on!
Boom is too raisin-y looking. And I’m not referring to the actual color, even though it does have a raisin color to it. Possibly good for a waterproof blush, though!
I will have to try it as a blush sometime!
Oh wow! A waterproof blush! If it blends well enough to do that, I would be super interested!
Iām into them! I donāt even mind the shrivelly looking one!
Yay!
I picked up Boom last week. I wasn’t too into how it applied with the included applicator (but I love how the applicator comes out when you open it!). I’m going to try again with my fingers and/or a brush.
The mechanism for storing the applicator is definitely clever! I wish I liked it more š
Man, I want to love these but they seem to show all the flaws in your lips!
With Amplify, I don’t think it’s showing them so much as it’s not hiding them. Like those are just… my lips.
I’m a little confused. The colors are pretty, but are these more like a highly-pigmented lip gloss, or a potted lipstick?
They aren’t a gloss at all – there’s no shine or glossiness! They are a lipstick.
I was able to test these at Sephora today. Now I get it. They are sortof like a lipstick, but somehow not at the same time (I guess hence the name lip mousse.) Anyway, I quite like the finish. It seems somehow different, a little more natural and yet still very pigmented. Almost like a stain maybe?
They remind me of the feel of a very matte lipstick after it’s been worn down for a few hours!
How do this compare to the nyx Lip powders? Or the cle cosmetics ones? Thank you
Sorry, I don’t have those.
Love the colours, but not the application or the finish.
That’s a beautiful eye look you are rocking there Christine.
Thank you so much, Genevieve!
I very much like Amplify. Iām a fan of blotting my lip colour; especially reds and deeper shades. This looks sophisticated and undone at the same time.
These are so interesting! So do you think they can also act as a good sheer matte lip, Christine? I’m always on the hunt for those, as the vast majority of sheer lip options are glossy.
Yes, I think so, you’d just want to gently pat in a couple of places and rub lips together to blend (or clean fingertip).
