The Best of Urban Decay Hi-Fi Shine Lip Glosses

Urban Decay Hi-Fi Shine Ultra Cushion Lip Gloss

Urban Decay Hi-Fi Shine Ultra Cushion Lip Gloss ($20.00 for 0.23 fl. oz.) is supposed to be “ultra-shiny” with a “cushiony-soft” texture that has “long-lasting wear that’s comfortable, not tacky.” They are scented with “vanilla-mint,” which I did detect, and I could taste slightly (more like a vague sweetness). There was a slight minty tingle upon initial application, but it was very subtle and more of a cooling sensation than anything painful.

The strength of the formula is the texture of the gloss–more gel-like with a plushness that often smoothed out my lip lines rather than settled into them as some glosses are prone to do. Most shades applied well, were comfortable to wear, and lasted between three and five hours on me with light hydration.

The coverage varies based on finish, with “Sheer Cream” having the sheerest coverage and “Cream” having “pigment-rich” coverage (opaque). The two other finishes–Holographic and Metallized–are supposed to have more medium, buildable coverage, per the brand. I think that the brand could have done a better job describing the coverage levels both by finish as well as by shade, though.

Beso! I just knew that this one would score very high up on the list! I bought it before your review because it looked perfect in your posted sneak peek. Sadly, I will only allow myself one more shade and will limit wearing either one to once every 2 weeks. UD snuck in sodium saccharin. Didn’t realize it at all that first day I wore it! But that night, my lips seemed irritated, so I had to look up the ingredients. Let down by UD, PMG following in TF’s footsteps.

Yes, Rachel, they NEED to. I’m now really wishing that I’d taken pictures of how messed up my eyes looked on day 4 of having used that TF Chocolate Bar Palette, as that would have been warning enough for anyone to see. But I didn’t. What scares me to death is knowing that someone someday is going to lose their eyesight or something. What is the sense in sweetening cosmetics anyway? And at what potential cost to the unwary consumer?

I swatched a few and I really disliked the smell and texture!
I have owned a Urban Decay lipgloss years ago, around 2012 (a miniature size, don’t remember whether it came with a set I bought or if it was a free sample) and it was that same “vanilla-mint” smell, and I also remember a “cooling effect”. I don’t know why they did the same in their 2018 formula.
I found the texture really sticky (and I am not a lipgloss hater in general). I was tempted by some glittery shades but I really can’t stand the texture…
