Urban Fall 2018 Hi-Fi Shine Ultra Cushion Lip Glosses Reviews & Swatches
Tongue Tied
Urban Decay Tongue Tied Hi-Fi Shine Ultra Cushion Lip Gloss ($20.00 for 0.23 fl. oz.) is a deep fuchsia pink with cool undertones and lighter pink and fuchsia sparkle. It had medium coverage that applied evenly and smoothly across my lips without settling into my lip lines. The gloss had a smooth, gel-like texture that wasn’t sticky and thin enough to feel lightweight but still comfortable. It stayed on well for four hours and was lightly moisturizing.

Formula Overview
$20.00/0.23 oz. - $86.96 Per Ounce
The formula is supposed to be "ultra-shiny" with a "cushiony-soft" texture that has "long-lasting wear that's comfortable, not tacky." They are scented with "vanilla-mint," which I did detect, and I could taste slightly (more like a vague sweetness). There was a slight minty tingle upon initial application, but it was very subtle and more of a cooling sensation than anything painful.
The strength of the formula is the texture of the gloss--more gel-like with a plushness that often smoothed out my lip lines rather than settled into them as some glosses are prone to do. Most shades applied well, were comfortable to wear, and lasted between three and five hours on me with light hydration.
The coverage varies based on finish, with "Sheer Cream" having the sheerest coverage and "Cream" having "pigment-rich" coverage (opaque). The two other finishes--Holographic and Metallized--are supposed to have more medium, buildable coverage, per the brand. I think that the brand could have done a better job describing the coverage levels both by finish as well as by shade, though.

Aphrodisiac
Urban Decay Aphrodisiac Hi-Fi Shine Ultra Cushion Lip Gloss ($20.00 for 0.23 fl. oz.) is a medium brown with strong, warm orange undertones and sparkle that shifted from pink to teal. It tinted my natural lip color to appear warmer, peachier, and it delivered a moderate amount of shimmer/sparkle. It was an easy-to-wear gloss that didn’t pull into lip lines and made my lips appear smoother and plusher. It was described as “sheer,” so the coverage was as anticipated. The consistency was lightweight, smooth, and almost creamy initially with little tackiness. It wore well for three and a half hours and was hydrating while worn.

Ghosted
Urban Decay Ghosted Hi-Fi Shine Ultra Cushion Lip Gloss ($20.00 for 0.23 fl. oz.) has a nearly translucent base with multi-colored glitter. (The brand described it as a “sheer lavender,” and my eye can just barely see a purplish cast to the gloss when swatched.) The base brought out the pink tones in my natural lip slightly, but I don’t expect it to alter the natural lip color much since it was so sheer. There was noticeable sparkle, but it was sparser on my lips than it appeared in the tube. The texture was lightweight, smooth, and gel-like, which made it sit well on my lips but prone to wearing down within two and a half hours. I did feel the glitter in it after an hour of wear. The formula was lightly moisturizing over time.

We need to invent a word here, one that means “that feeling when you know the product won’t make your real-life lips look quite like Christine’s”. That’s the feeling Tongue Tied gives me.
Awwww! I do feel the Hi-Fi formula is very smoothing, though!
I think these look better in the tubes than they do on the lips lol!
I totally get that!
Yes! I was loving the way they looked in the tubes, but the actual colors are sadly nothing like that. Tongue Tied is nice, but much more pink than purple.
Hmmm – pretty meh shades to be released as part of a new collection, although Tongue Tied is the nicest shade.
I wish there was more to them!
I was meh on the Aphrodisiac mini-palette but I love your eyelook with it. Would I be able to get a similar look from the Backtalk palette or even Born to Run (much more tempted by one of those two).
Like the glosses. I’m glad gloss is making a comeback.
It is nice to see more glosses releasing!
The first two, Tongue Tied and Aphrodisiac, are truly luscious and pillowy looking! One catch, however. Sodium Saccharin. Lemmings crushed.
They are very smoothing!
Nancy where do you get your ingredient info? I have a Colourpop palette where 50% of the colors cause me skin irritation. I’ve been trying to cross reference ingredients and figure out what it is, but it’s surprisingly hard to find that stuff online. (The back of the palette just lists all the ingredients not the ones for individual shades.)
I look up the ingredients up above on a tab the Temptalia site provides, CJay. It’s located right over the “Dupe List”. HTH!
Such a shame that these are SO incredibly sheer. Really interesting shades, and the brand skimps out on pigment yet again. Hard pass.
Yeah, I think they would be more interesting with more pigment/shimmer, but it was intentional (I wouldn’t say they skimped on it, since they wanted two to be sheer and one to be medium coverage).
These look SO good! I like the formula of these.
Me too – it’s very smoothing!
Tongue Tied is calling me! It has just enough pigment to be interesting, but not be patchy the way a lot of dark glosses tend to be.
I wish Aphrodisiac applied more like how it looks in the tube. It’s still pretty, but not what I was hoping for.
