Urban Decay Jawbreaker, SPL, Big Bang Hi-Fi Shine Lip Glosses Reviews & Swatches
Jawbreaker
Urban Decay Jawbreaker Hi-Fi Shine Ultra Cushion Lip Gloss ($20.00 for 0.23 oz.) is a bright, medium-dark purple with strong, warm pink undertones and a cream finish. It had semi-opaque pigmentation that was hard to build up, and the color did not apply evenly. It seemed to look more translucent along the edges of my lips and richer on the center of them, and it did not matter if I tried to blend or smooth out the color with the applicator, my lips, or fingertips. The gloss had a smooth, plush consistency that was comfortable to wear and did not emphasize my lip lines. It wore well for five hours and was lightly hydrating.

Formula Overview
$20.00/0.23 oz. - $86.96 Per Ounce
The formula is supposed to be "ultra-shiny" with a "cushiony-soft" texture that has "long-lasting wear that's comfortable, not tacky." They are scented with "vanilla-mint," which I did detect, and I could taste slightly (more like a vague sweetness). There was a slight minty tingle upon initial application, but it was very subtle and more of a cooling sensation than anything painful.
The strength of the formula is the texture of the gloss--more gel-like with a plushness that often smoothed out my lip lines rather than settled into them as some glosses are prone to do. Most shades applied well, were comfortable to wear, and lasted between three and five hours on me with light hydration.
The coverage varies based on finish, with "Sheer Cream" having the sheerest coverage and "Cream" having "pigment-rich" coverage (opaque). The two other finishes--Holographic and Metallized--are supposed to have more medium, buildable coverage, per the brand. I think that the brand could have done a better job describing the coverage levels both by finish as well as by shade, though.

SPL
Urban Decay SPL Hi-Fi Shine Ultra Cushion Lip Gloss ($20.00 for 0.23 oz.) is a pale pink base with multi-colored, iridescent sparkle. It had semi-sheer coverage that enhanced my natural lip color (made it appear a bit brighter, pinker, and warmer) with a medium amount of sparkle/shimmer. The gloss was plusher, so I didn’t feel the texture or grit of the sparkles on my lips easily. There was good distribution of the sparkles, too, across my lips for an even shimmer layer. It wore well for four hours and was lightly moisturizing.

Big Bang
Urban Decay Big Bang Hi-Fi Shine Ultra Cushion Lip Gloss ($20.00 for 0.23 oz.) is a medium, fuchsia pink with lighter, brighter fuchsia sparkle. It had medium coverage that was buildable to semi-opaque coverage with a second layer and a “semi-sheer” level of sparkle–noticeable but not jam-packed. The texture was lightweight, smooth, and plush enough to minimize the appearance of my lip lines. It wore well for four and a half hours and was lightly hydrating over time.

…I still can’t figure out why “SPL” means, lol
I don’t know, either. 😀
SPL is so pretty and icy looking! Mental AC for the inferno that waits at our doorstep here. If I didn’t own the MAC x Selena Lipglass, I may have bought this one.
Jawbreaker is both a heartbreaker and a deal breaker. Fuggedaboutit!
Huge difference between the Big Bang of old and this one. I think this one is more wearable and very pretty on you. Actually all three colors are attractive.
I think I”m the weird gal out on this. I had Fuel and returned it. I couldn’t get post who tingly it was on the lips after application. Not sure if my lips were a little chapped or something since no one has mentioned this, but I couldn’t get past it. I returned it. Am I alone in this? I really like the look of Jawbreaker but apparently I can’t use the formula.
I mentioned the tingling under “Formula Overview.”
