Natasha Denona Palette 05 Eyeshadow Palette Review & Swatches
Palette 05
Natasha Denona Palette 05 Eyeshadow Palette 5 ($48.00 for 0.4 oz.) includes all shimmers, though two shades were more satin-to-pearl, but I suspect most will pair this with existing matte shades they enjoy. I felt like the quality was too mixed at this price point to justify, and while there were slight improvements I noted compared to the very first iterations I tried, there was still room for improvement for three of the five shades.

Calypso Blue (05M)
Calypso Blue (05M) is a medium brown with warm, reddish undertones and blue-to-green shifting shimmer that gave it a metallic finish. It had rich color coverage with a soft, lightly creamy texture that was more loosely-pressed but not to the point that it became prone to fallout. The color stayed on nicely for eight and a half hours before fading noticeably.
The version in this palette was warmer-toned compared to the original I have.

The majority of the brand's eyeshadows are quite pigmented, blendable, and long-wearing. The eyeshadows have improved over time, particularly with respect to longevity (without a primer). The original formula often creased on me within seven to eight hours, whereas the more current formula wears eight to nine hours with fading (instead of full-on creasing). The more matte finishes tend to be a bit more velvety, substantial, and less dry/powdery compared to prior iterations.
The metallic finish is often the creamiest, slightly denser in feel, but has excellent pigmentation, adhesion, and blendability. The sparkling shades can have some fallout, depending on how they're applied and how sparkly they are, so they sometimes work better with fingertips or a dampened brush; they can also run sheerer compared to other finishes.
Cream-Powders are the more unique formulation and tend to have firmer, almost stiff, consistencies and more semi-opaque, watercolor-esque coverage. They are longer-wearing, but they can take a few uses to learn how to use. This formula has also improved compared to when it first debuted--it is a bit more yielding now.

Tropic (08V)
Tropic (08V) is a medium, green-leaning teal with subtle, cooler undertones with warmer, greenish-gold pearl over a semi-matte finish. The texture was somewhat powdery, which resulted in a bit of fallout but was fairly manageable. It had semi-opaque, buildable pigmentation that applied evenly and blended out without difficulty. It wore well for eight hours before fading visibly.

Blue Spruce (02M)
Blue Spruce (02M) is a medium-dark blue with strong, cool undertones and a pearl finish. It had opaque coverage but had a firmer, slightly dense texture that was stiffer to work with, so it needed a heavier hand or slight, jabbing motions to dislodge product. As a result, it was harder to blend it out as well. It lasted decently for eight hours before fading noticeably.
It was lighter and brighter with a less cream-like, user-friendly texture compared to the original I have.

Deep Pacific (03V)
Deep Pacific (03V) is a blackened teal with cool undertones and fine pearl that gave it more of a satin finish once applied and blended out. The texture was soft, dusty, and had some fallout during application. It had semi-opaque coverage that build up decently but was best over an eyeshadow primer. The color stayed on well for eight hours before fading visibly.

Pearl (56P)
Pearl (56P) is a light-medium gold with moderate, warm undertones and a smooth, metallic finish. If only the overall quality was better than this, I would so buy it! I’m a sucker for a pretty shade or two of teal. And these two are really nice looking. So is that duochrome.
I have to say I’ve yet to see a ND 5-pan color story I’ve liked without reservation. Can’t quite put my finger on why my brain rebels against the palette selections, even as I often like the colors individually.
Lauren, I have 2 of her minis that I do like a lot but I have the same issue with not loving them unreservedly for the very reason you describe.
This exactly! I desperately want to pick at least one. 🙁
I find that 01 and 03 are pretty similar, and that is very sad. And even if similar colours from them would be together, it would uneventful.
Never have I ever been so sour about saved money.
This color combination reminds me of Colourpop’s Mar palette (which I own).
The quality of this little palette are really all over the shop, as reflected in the ratings. I am not sure that I like the colour story happening here – the teal/aqua shade and the dark blackened teal don’t really work for me. The Pearl gold shade is beautiful though. A gorgeous eye look Christine.
Too bad. I had hoped for better. While Blue Spruce is an absolutely gorgeous blue, it is quite disappointing in performance.
I bought this palette last year (with a discount) solely for Calypso Blue. I SO wish there was still a single of it available! I’ve used the 3 blue shades a few times, and I’m sure I will never, ever use Pearl. But I need a lifetime supply of Calypso Blue!!!
Have you tried using Pearl to mix with other shades instead?
I haven’t….I never thought to, honestly! I’ll have to play around with it and see what happens!
I’ve got quite a few indie dupes for Calypso Blue, which she did used to sell as a single at one point…but you could buy all of these for the price of one ND single, haha! Devinah Messier, Terra Moons Terra Borealis, Beauty Escape Demogorgan, and Nabla Alchemy are all wonderful substitutes.
I have Devinah Messier, and the other ones you mentioned are on my list to pick up. I’m seriously collecting ALL the shades like that. I can’t get enough! There’s just something about Calypso Blue, though….I don’t know, seems to be silkier in appearance, like it’s made from the lightest of silk chiffons and others could be compared to heavier silk fabrics. Funny analogy, but that’s how I think of it.
Deep Pacific look so beautiful in the pan but swatches differently than I’d have expected. What’s odd is the differences in the dupes – from dark grey that borders on black, to shades with more blue and green visible in the swatch. I’m regretting not getting Sephora Midnight Swim but I do have UD Loaded. That Pearl shade is nice but not enough reason to buy the palette just for one shade. And Tropic reminds me of the colour of hospital walls back in the 70’s and of what we used to call “landlord colours”. Just an unappealing colour for me.
This is a big improvement over the old one, but it still leaves a lot to be desired. It’s a pretty color story, though. I’ll pass.
