Melt Cosmetics Vida Eyeshadow Palette Review & Swatches
Vida
Melt Cosmetics Vida 10-Pan Eyeshadow Palette ($58.00 for 0.66 oz.) is a new palette that features two shimmer shades and eight mattes housed cardboard palette. Some shades were really nice, while other shades were harder to work with with Sarape being one of the worst eyeshadows I’ve ever used.
Sarape was so firmly pressed into the pan yet dry as a bone, so it was difficult to pick up without scraping it off the surface of the pan (effectively loosely it) and the lack of slip in the formula made it hard to get the product to adhere (so tons of fallout accumulated as I tried to get opaque coverage out of it). Alegria had the opposite issue as it was drier and powdery.
Papel Picado and Amor Eterno were chalkier, prone to sheering out, and perform better over more opaque bases (thin, silicone-based primer didn’t seem to help much). Chocolate was dry enough that it seemed to work best applied first, rather than last, or else it caused patchiness, emphasis of skin texture, and some lifting.
Per the brand, in response to whether the products were limited edition, they said they will do their best to bring products from the collection back if everyone loves them.

Sarape
Sarape is a bright, medium grass green with warm undertones and a sparkling finish. Once product actually came off from the pan’s surface, it had good pigmentation, though it’s hard to really say it’s a pigmented product because the texture/formula were a total disaster. It was so firmly pressed into the pan that it could have been plastic to the touch; I could feel the slight grit of the sparkle but nothing really came off when I touched it (brush or fingertips).
I had to push and jab at the surface, really work past layers of it, to get product to pick up and transfer to my skin. I tried using it with fingertips, a dampened brush, and even a sponge-tipped applicator, and I had to rub off powder from the pan first. After half a dozen uses, I could just use the bristles of my brush to gently push at the surface to use it.
As a result of the dry, crumbly nature of the powder (because it was pushed off the surface to begin with), there was heavy fallout with poor adhesion. I had to pack and pack it on to get it to translate at all on my lid; I was almost at the point of removing everything entirely because of this shade alone. Once on, it lasted for six hours before showing visible signs of fading.

Papel Picado
Papel Picado is a bright, chartreuse green with warm undertones and a matte finish. The texture was drier, moderately powdery, and almost chalk-like, which was particularly noticeable when applied to bare skin and I attempted to blend it out as it emphasized my skin’s natural texture. It had good color coverage but sheered out when applied and yielded some fallout. The color stayed on decently for seven hours before fading visibly.

Amor Eterno
Amor Eterno is a bright, medium-dark yellow with subtle, warm undertones and a matte finish. It had excellent color coverage in a single layer, but the texture was drier, slightly chalky, and it did not seem to do well over bare skin as the product sheered out to more semi-opaque coverage (but couldn’t be built back up) and had a ton of fallout. There was also some darkening in random areas, which occurred over bare skin as well as over a thin layer of primer (I used Smashbox 24HR). It lasted for eight hours on me and left a very faint stain behind.

Agua Ardiente is a muted, medium olive green with strong, warm undertones and a matte finish. It was richly pigmented with a smooth, velvety texture that was substantial and lightly powdery but not in a way that made it hard to work with. The eyeshadow applied evenly and blended out well on bare skin. It wore nicely for eight and a half hours before fading visibly.

Chocolate
Chocolate is a muted, darker brown with subtle, warm undertones and a matte finish. The eyeshadow had a soft, velvety consistency that was more substantial so I’d recommend using a lighter hand with it. It had opaque color payoff that applied evenly to bare skin and blended out decently, but I had to apply it first or else it was prone to being lifted away and looking a bit dry layered over other shades. This shade stayed on well for eight and a half hours before fading noticeably.

Atole
Atole is a muted, deep beige with subtle, yellow undertones and a matte finish. It was the type of shade that one might call a light brown or a deep beige, but I find that within the spectrum of brown, it’s still quite a bit light so I’d say more beige. It had opaque pigmentation that applied well to bare skin with a smooth, even lay down of color that blended out well. It lasted for eight hours on me before I noticed fading.

Sol is a bright, yellowy tangerine with warm undertones and a matte finish. The eyeshadow had opaque color payoff in one layer, but the texture was somewhat powdery, so it sheered out a bit when applied and had light fallout. Alegria
Alegria is a brighter, medium-dark coral-orange with warm undertones and gold, frosted shimmer. It had opaque color coverage but had a drier, more powdery texture that was thin and had to really be pressed and patted onto the skin with minimal sweeping/blending otherwise the color faded and had moderate fallout. I would recommend using this with a fingertip or a dampened brush. It lasted nicely for eight and a half hours before fading visibly, and it left a faint stain behind–it was the only shade in the palette that came with the warning that it is not intended for use on the eye area.

Of the pair, I really love this one’s shades so much more. It screams the Culture of Mexico the most, and just moves me. Perfectly put together!
I’ve been seeing different ones having very different experiences with Sarape, though. Either quite lovely for Allura to downright awful for you, but no in between. Always either one or the other. Possibly two separate batches? Idk?
Such a beautiful palette, those greens are gorgeous but sadly this is now a pass. Sounds like a production issue…
Once again, I have no issues with my palette?♀️
Very beautiful palettes , I wish they performed a but better though . At least I have Secret Keeper which seems to be a Dupe for Serape . And my Sugarpill shadows seem to dupe two of the other shadows . Also I love your new hair ! Your stylist is really good with the oil slick technique.
Wow and thank you. Both of these are off my favs list. I will not be purchasing.
This could have been a stunning palette, but with all those formula issues it’s just not worth it.
Stunning eye looks Christine and thank you for your perseverance with this palette.
This was such a missed opportunity. I’m so confused as to how in the world this product could make it to market. Melt knows how to make a good eyeshadow…..I think? Thanks for saving my sister’s xmas present, its def gonna be a Pat McGrath palette instead!
I just wore that bright shimmery green on my lid the other day and had no problems, went on smooth with no fallout. It’s sad that you had such a different experience with it 🙁
Wow what a mixed bag…I’ll pass until I can swatch one in Sephora, if it ever comes to the store.
Sarape performs beautifully for me (I used a Smith 256 – not fingers). I am baffled by this rating. I have no idea what happened with the palette in this review, but I’m delighted with mine.
Well thanks for saving me all the dough, Christine!
Gorgeous palettes, I really wanted to pick them up both (despite me being such a neutral gal) but that is really disappointing that they dont even perform that well 🙁
I look at this and say to myself, “I’m glad I got Sugarpill.” And I got Colourpop for neutrals so this is an easy pass.
