Makeup Geek Cherry Cola Eyeshadow
Makeup Geek Sorbet Eyeshadow ($6.00 for 0.064 oz.) is described as a “pastel melon pink with a matte finish.” It’s a light, pinky-peach with subtle, warm undertones and a matte finish. It had good color payoff, but the texture was powdery and dry, and it looked dry, flaky, and chalky on my lid. Chalkiness could just be due to my skin tone, but it made my lid look like it was so dry that it was flaking (but in reality, it wasn’t flaking at all!). It applied unevenly and was quick to crease after six and a half hours. Tarte Pastel (LE, ) is darker (95% similar). Smashbox Naked (LE, ) is cooler (95% similar). Tom Ford Beauty In the Pink #1 (LE, ) is lighter (95% similar). Tarte Popcorn Strand (LE, ) is lighter (95% similar). Make Up For Ever M810 Flesh-Colored Pink (DC, $21.00) is warmer (95% similar). Makeup Geek Mirage Eyeshadow ($6.00 for 0.064 oz.) is described as a “warm buttercream with a satin matte finish.” It’s a light, pastel yellow with a satin finish. It had fairly good pigmentation, but the texture was ridiculously powdery and dry. It kicked up so much excess in the pan, and it generally over-applies, even with a light touch. This shade was powdery when it was released in the Vegas Lights palette, but it seemed even worse in its permanent form. It lasted for seven and a half hours on me. Makeup Geek Morocco Eyeshadow ($6.00 for 0.064 oz.) is described as a “rich, burnt orange with a matte finish.” It’s a bright, medium-dark orange with warm, red undertones and a mostly matte finish. It had rich color payoff with a soft, smooth texture that wasn’t too powdery or too firm. This shade applied well to bare skin without losing its intensity, and it wore well for eight hours before fading. Huda Beauty Blazing (PiP, ) is cooler (95% similar). Wow, the 3 best colors here run pretty warm. Not sure if I can pull it off, but Morocco is gorgeous !
Morocco seemed like one of the best!
I like Morrocco, Cherry Cola, and Americano. For $6 that’s a pretty good deal!
They are interesting colors!
My list is shrinking by the minute! Blendability-wise, would you go for Morocco or MAC Red Brick?
Both are great shades, but Morocco is quite nice and cheaper! 🙂
Same, I thought I’d be getting so many of these…now it’s looking like just a few
I’m baffled by the poor quality of these new mattes, especially since I know Makeup Geek is capable of doing better. Bummer.
They aren’t doing so hot 🙁
Seriously I expected SO much better, by the way I’ve heard people rave about this brand
Egads! These shadows aren’t looking so promising. On a slightly better note, those Colourpop liners look so fun together on your lower lash line! 🙂
LOL! At least those were working better!
Morocco and Cherry Cola are life! The rest of them…whomp whomp.
More misses 🙁
Maybe a bit of redemption …… But this has been a generally painful experience. I’d rather covet & not buy, than want, with great deflation.
I’m fearing for the brights next!
Oh yeah, I can see where it’s flaking off. Ugh.
I don’t think I’m going to be purchasing anything from MUG anymore. The quality has plummeted in the past few months and it seems like there’s just excuses being made and no real answers.
I was really bummed by some of these!
Love these! Cherry Cola looks so pretty!
Cherry Cola is a pretty hue!
Bummer! Basically because I already own great dupes of the best graded shades: Deep Damson and Red Brick! Americano looks interesting though, as a very dark, slightly plummy brown that may work on me, but only due to my using primer in every look. A necessity with my hooded, oily lids!
Phew! SO glad you have dupes. Deep Damson is better!
I like Cherry Cola as a shade. I love reddish browns like this, I often use ’em to add depth to my eye looks. Too bad the intensity isn’t always there with these new mattes.
I wish they were better!
So far your reviews are making my bank account happy. I wasn’t impressed with any of the shades I bought a couple months ago, but I am curious to see how the new grey shades fare. Thanks for your honesty and dedication!
Of course! xo
I like the color of Cherry Cola but I’ll probably turn to a dupe to get the color. Central Perk looks like a better starting point.
Central Perk would be a great option!
What a beautiful eye look you created with those colors!! I love the purple and yellow on the lower lid. It’s really pretty!
I like the Cherry Cola color but would like it even more if it had a satin finish instead of matte. I’m just OVER.IT. on the mattes.
Thank you, Kelly!
Cherry Cola and Morocco were the only ones of this group that I was interested in, so, yay!
Phew 🙂
Cherry Cola is my favourite, but I saw that Deep Damson is a dupe, and I have that, so so far I’m not going to order any of the mattes. I am a bit tempted by Morocco, though.
You did a good job on your look, I must say. But then, you always do.
Deep Damson is so nice, too!
I love Morocco and Cherry Cola!
Yay!
Wow, I’m so glad I am not the only one who was disappointed!! I have always loved makeup geek shadows in the past, but this reformulated collection of mattes was a huge let down! I bought the set and could immediately tell they were not the same quality as past shadows from makeup geek. I was also disappointed with the duochrome shadows that I bought. The more I blended them the less duochrome effect there was. Mac and kat von d duochromes don’t do that. I’m now sadly hesitant to buy anything else from makeup geek now ? which is a bummer because they used to be so great…..
It feels good not to be alone, doesn’t it? Sometimes that is the scary part about no (or few) reviews!
