Makeup by Mario Kiana & Lucia Ultra Suede Lipsticks Reviews & Swatches
Kiana
Makeup by Mario Kiana Ultra Suede Lipstick ($24.00 for 0.14 oz.) is a rich, ruby red with cooler, blue undertones and a matte finish. It had medium color payoff that was buildable to semi-opaque coverage with a second layer. The texture felt very lightweight on my lips, but the actual lipstick was firmer and stiffer with little glide, so it tugged on my lips and wasn’t the easiest to spread evenly over my lips.
This was a shade that broke at the base during application as well. The color could have applied more evenly, and the formula wasn’t forgiving of imperfections/lip lines. It stayed on well for five hours, left a stain behind, and felt lightly drying over time.

Formula Overview
$24.00/0.14 oz. - $171.43 Per Ounce
The formula is supposed to be a "comfortable matte" finish that offers "full-coverage" that is "non-drying" and has "smoothing gels and texturizing powder" that delivers a "smooth matte, soft-focus appearance." It's a silicone-heavy formula that's thin, very lightweight, and has a "soft matte" finish that is mostly matte but not quite as flat initially as a true matte lipstick would be.
I find this type of formula to be a more common release from a multitude of brands, and they don't often have a lot of differentiation. It has been my experience, unfortunately, with most of these formulas that they tend to emphasize lip texture and imperfections--particularly catching around flakes, even minor dryness--and separate into lip lines as they wear down. The lighter shades tend to be the worst-applying and worst-performing, while more mid-tone and deeper shades can apply more smoothly and be more flattering on.
I noticed that the red and berry hues in the range seemed to be stiffer in the tube than most of the other shades in the line-up, and this resulted in the base of the lipstick breaking off from the twist-up mechanism (the following shades broke: Alicia, Kiana, Kristen, Amanda).
The pigmentation varied from more semi-opaque to opaque coverage with lighter shades having sheerer coverage relative to deeper shades. The initial consistency was firmer in the tube, though not to the point of tugging painfully, but I found that this tends to deliver less pigmentation and does tend to be a better application when I build up with shorter, overlapping strokes overall.
The formula was non-drying and very lightweight, so it felt like I had nothing on, but they only wore between two and five hours with a few shades exceeding that range (like a red).

PPermanent. $24.00.
Lucia
Makeup by Mario Lucia Ultra Suede Lipstick ($24.00 for 0.14 oz.) is a deep mauve with cool undertones and a soft matte finish. It had nearly opaque pigmentation in one layer, which had to be applied in shorter strokes as the texture was a little stiff and firm in the tube without enough glide (even velvety, silicone-heavy glide!).
The product felt very lightweight on my lips, thin but not clingy, and was neither drying nor hydrating. The color applied evenly but settled into my lip lines slightly, which wasn’t noticeable until after three hours of wear (with total wear being closer to five hours).

They look pretty, but sound like a real pain to apply. Then again, this might make them “mask resistant”!
Obviously not the best formula but the shades are lovely. I particularly like Lucia. It would be a nice everyday kind of lippie. Not worth the money though. I have too many lip lines and I hate the looks of lipstick stuck in lip lines as the other areas wear off. Gross.
These lipsticks are not really proven themselves to be that great, the formula is fairly off. It looks stiff and tricky to work with and the application tends to make your lips look quite dry.
I love how both of these lipsticks looks, but being tricky to apply, one even breaking at the base makes it a very simple pass.
I have dupes for Kiana, and have a dupe for Lucia on my WL and I’m going to add the CP dupe as well.
