MAC Lipstick
MAC Lipsticks: Spoiled Fabulous, Wild Extract, Time to Shine, No Interruptions

MAC Spoiled Fabulous Lipstick ($17.00 for 0.10 oz.) is a light, champagne gold with warm undertones and fine gold and larger gold sparkle. It had a noticeably gritty texture when applied directly to the lips, and the sparkle really clings to each other, which causes unevenness and lumpy bits of sparkle on the lips. The “color” seemed to slip into lip lines as well. This is a shade that I found difficult to apply on its own and get any measure of standalone wear out of it, as it always made my lips look rough and very textured. It would work better as a layering shade. It lasted for two and a half hours on me. MAC No Interruptions (P, $19.50) is less shimmery, cooler (90% similar). MAC Liquid Lurex (LE, $19.50) is warmer (90% similar). Tom Ford Beauty Rory (LE, $36.00) is warmer (90% similar). Maybelline White Gold (P, $7.49) is darker (90% similar). MAC Metalwork (LE, $19.50) is less shimmery, warmer (90% similar). Urban Decay Whip (P, $18.00) is less shimmery (90% similar). MAC Tanarama (LE, $19.50) is warmer (95% similar). Surratt Beauty Lame (P, $36.00) is less shimmery, warmer (85% similar). MAC All I Want (LE, $19.50) is less shimmery, darker, warmer (90% similar). MAC Free as a Butterfly (LE, $19.50) is less shimmery, lighter, more pigmented (85% similar). Guerlain Altoum (DC, $35.00) is more pigmented, warmer (85% similar). MAC Wild Extract Lipstick ($17.00 for 0.10 oz.) is a bright, light-medium chartreuse with warm, yellow undertones and a fine, metallic shimmer. There aren’t that many shades like it, so I really wish this performed better, since it is permanent! The texture was thin, emollient but a little slippery, and it did gather a bit in lip lines. It could have applied more evenly as well and only had medium coverage. The color lasted for three and a half hours on me and was neither drying nor hydrating. Obsessive Compulsive Cosmetics Fragmented (DC, $18.00) is less shimmery, darker (95% similar). MAC Key Lime Trifle (LE, $17.50) is brighter, cooler (85% similar). MAC Gold Xixi (P, $19.50) is less shimmery, lighter, warmer (85% similar). See comparison swatches / view dupes side-by-side.

MAC Time to Shine Lipstick ($17.00 for 0.10 oz.) is a silvery white with a pearly shimmer finish. This was one of the least shimmery shades in the new Frosts being added to the permanent line. It had semi-opaque coverage, but the color did seem to emphasize every lip line by settling into it. I think a lip primer or lip liner might help this one, but I would consider using an invisible lip liner with this one. This shade lasted for three hours and was slightly drying. Tom Ford Beauty Casey (LE, $36.00) is lighter, brighter (90% similar). NYX Stone Cold (P, $6.00) is more shimmery, warmer (90% similar). Obsessive Compulsive Cosmetics Iced (DC, $18.00) is more shimmery, lighter (90% similar). Bite Beauty Violet Icing (P, $24.00) is more shimmery, darker (85% similar). MAC Funfetti Cake (LE, $17.50) is lighter, warmer, glossier (85% similar). MAC Silver Spoon (LE, $19.50) is less shimmery, darker, less pigmented (85% similar). Fenty Beauty Slush Fund (LE, )(80% similar). See comparison swatches / view dupes side-by-side.

Formula Overview

MAC Lipstick ($17.00 for 0.10 oz.) is available in several finishes, and the performance tends to vary with the finish. Amplified, Satins, and Mattes tend to have the most pigmentation, longer wear, and more even coverage, but satins and mattes can be drying at times. Lustres are the sheerest, can sometimes be drying, and often wear only an hour or two as they have a lot of slip. Frosts vary from medium to opaque coverage, some shimmer to glitter, and wear an average of four hours. Cremesheens have more slip and medium or better coverage, but they can often settle into lip lines or look streaky if they are lighter in color. All of MAC’s lipsticks are vanilla-scented but have no discernible taste.

These are really pretty, but they sound so high maintenance that I wouldn’t wear them much. I have Liquid Lurex from the first time it was released and I almost never use it, so that should tell me something! Still, pretty to look at. Thanks for sharing!

These are definitely what I’d call “specialty” or even “pro” products – they are fussy, and they can be pretty, but you have to know how you’ll use them and be willing to make them work a bit.

Oh gee, I stumbled across Spoiled Fabulous in store this past weekend, almost bought it, glad I waited. It swatched so beautifully on the hands, the photo doesn’t do it justice –tons of glittery sparkle, but I was kind of worried b/c the glitter looked chunky. And I’m too much of a germphobe to swatch on my lips even if they “sanitize” the lipstick, so I didn’t know how it would look on the lips-but not great! This should’ve been a gloss instead

I think if one wears it as a pretty sheer layer, it is OK, like a light swipe but not going back-and-forth too much. Pretty much you might as well use loose glitter!

Wild Extract could have really been amazing had it applied less streaky. MAC just can’t seem to get it right. Their formulas continues to decline. On the upside they photograph very well off skin.

If I didn’t already have “All I Want”, then Spoiled Fabulous would be quite tempting to get as a topper. I use All I Want as such, or underneath a sheer lipstick to give it shimmer.
I will say, though, that the other 2 shades just aren’t for me. Basically because while I can definitely get away with, and look fabulous in, a chartreuse eyeshadow or even a piece of clothing, it *can* make me look super sallow if not just right. And white lipstick? Just no!

The hit of gold on your eyes really sparks up wild extract. These don’t look dreadful in the distance shot, but cake frosting would look good on you at a distance!

Wild Extract is so pretty, it’s a pity it doesn’t perform better on it’s own. Still, I’d like to have it as a topper. The other two just look unsalvageable to me.

These are the three shades I didn’t buy from the whole new frosted line. But they look so gorgeous on you!!!! I think they’re definitely cool specialty lipsticks but they could have and should have done better.

Spoiled Fabulous looks so shimmery and glittery I just want it. Sometimes I just want really glittery lips. I might just get it, and it could perhaps double as a lip peeling product…
I love Wild Extract, it wouldn’t make me look good, but as a lip colour in general it just makes me happy. It makes me less happy that it’s performing the way it does.
Time to Shine looks so good in the photos. A shame it emphazises liplines, I don’t need that happening. Maybe I’ll get it anyway and just use it with a primer. On you it looks a bit pale, pale lavender and I love it.
In short, I love all three, but am leaning toward not getting them. (Runs to hide wallet from self.)

I took the plunge on these and they totally swatch better on the hand (especially Spoiled Fabulous) and fussy but I’ve had really good luck layering them – Wild Extract patted over a matte purple liquid lipstick is so lovely!

Yeah, pro products for sure. I can’t see these working outside photoshoots or the stage. Not the colors so much but the upkeep and finishes do not look good close up.
