MAC Sophisticate Face Kit Review, Photos, Swatches
MAC Sophisticate Face Kit
MAC Sophisticate Face Kit ($49.50 for 0.43 oz.) includes six eyeshadows, two blushes, and two lipsticks. Worth pointing out right away is that the back of my palette says the second blush on the left is Simply Bliss, whereas Nordstrom’s product listing had Cream Soda in its place; I checked both of them, and the blush in this palette is slightly more pink-tinted and a little lighter but not by much.
Linda is described as a “peachy tan shimmer.” It’s a muted, medium-dark orange-copper with hints of brown and warmer undertones paired with a pearly sheen. It was slightly powdery with semi-opaque coverage that wore for eight hours. Becca Songbird (P, $32.00) is more shimmery, lighter. Becca Rose Gold (P, $41.00) is less shimmery, lighter. Becca Blushed Copper (LE, $38.00) is less shimmery, lighter, darker. Illamasqua Expose (P, $26.00) is less shimmery, darker, more pigmented. Simply Bliss is described as a “light neutral coral.” It’s a muted, light-medium peachy-coral with warm undertones and a mostly matte finish. It darkens as it is applied to the bare skin, so unless you have very dry skin and/or powder prior, it may do the same. The texture was slightly powdery but blendable with good pigmentation. It lasted for seven and a half hours on me. MAC Ripe Peach (LE, $32.00) is darker. MAC Ripe Peach (LE, $32.00) is darker. Illamasqua Flirtatious (LE, $26.00) is darker, glossier. Wedge is described as a “soft muted beige taupe.” It’s a muted, medium yellowed brown with a matte finish. It seems a bit lighter than the permanent version of Wedge to me. It had sheerer coverage with a dusty texture. The color lasted for seven hours on me. Urban Decay Naked (P, $18.00) is less pigmented, more pigmented. Jane Rock Star (DC, ) is lighter. Kat Von D Harlow (P, ) is darker. Ulta Sable (, ) is less shimmery. theBalm C3 (LE, $16.00) is darker, less pigmented, more muted, lighter. View dupes side-by-side.
With Flair is a muted, coppery-brown with warm undertones and a frosted sheen. Love Happens is described as a “warm light nude.” It’s a light-medium peach with a hint if pink and warmer undertones paired with a satin finish. It had semi-opaque pigmentation that felt a little dry and clingy on the lips. True Red is described as a “vivid bright coral red.” It’s a brightened, medium-dark orange-red with warm undertones and a satin finish. It seems more matte here, which may just be due to the format of the lipstick in a pan compared to a tube. It lasted for five hours and was on the drying side. MAC Barbecue (LE, $16.00) is . I love the eye look you did, but this palette has too many misses for me. I like some of the colors, but the lipstick Love Happens would make me look sick or dead and the 2 shadows (Dance in the Dark and Wedge) aren’t up to snuff
Thank you, Katherine! 🙂
With Flair is really gorgeous. And I like how Truly Red looks on you. But overall I’m not too excited about this kit.
Thanks a lot, Melissa!
It’s disappointing that this MAC Linda blush got a B when the original one got an A.
It is!
Calling all you MakeUp Mavens on Temptalia-
My 18 yr old niece in India is starting her own little bridal makeup service.
She would like me to buy her some MAC makeup in the US for her kit.
She has never owned or tried MAC products but thinks MAC is the bomb diggety.
(I have bought her a couple of Lancome palettes, a Sigma brush set, & she has some L’Oreal, ELF & Maybelline stuff but that’s it.)
Most of her bridal clients are fair to medium with warm undertones and ask for a ‘natural look’ (we’d probably call it ‘nude’ I suppose).
Anyway, do you think I should buy her this palette from MAC? or should I buy her one of the MAC eyeshadow palettes from Nordstrom? or are there any other palettes you can suggest that would be better?
I tried showing her the UD palettes, Inglot, & some others but NO she wants MAC.
Thank you for your answers in advance!
I wouldn’t get this palette!
I like that there’s a cover for the lipsticks. That’s something we should see more often in mixed palettes!
That is a nice touch!
Whoa, this palette is all over the place quality wise. Wedge doesn’t even look like Wedge, Dance In The Dark looks awful. On the other hand, the other 4 eyeshadows are lovely and very wearable, True Red looks beautiful on you, as do both blushes. Such a mixed bag!
It is a mixed bag!
I was supposed to give this to my mum but can’t give her a B- . She wants an all encompassing one with lip, blush and shadows but this is turning out to be a tough challenge. This ones not a total disaster as the other one but dunno.
It is REALLY hard to find a good all-in-one palette 🙁
Just got mine in the mail! Dance in the dark is definitely a dud. I guess I’ll use it as liner and see if that works. Wedge is a little disappointing but it’s workable. Since I didn’t get the original Linda blush, I was excited to see it was included in this palette at first place. Christine, what’s the difference between the original Linda and this one, since it got a B from the original A?
Overall I do like it (not love though) because I would actually use every color in the palette.
Powdery, less opaque!
This doesn’t get me excited. I find the color and quality mediocre.
Me neither 🙁
The blushes are lovely and so is the Truly red lipsticks. Most of the colours are good, except for a few. Love your eye look Christine – it is stunning.
Overall though, this is another average neutral palette from MAC.
The blushes are nice!
PRAYING they release Simply Bliss as a standalone blush at some point lol.
lol!
I’m not much for the contains all kind of palette, with eye, blush and lip products in them. There’s always some parts that I don’t use, and the lipsticks need a brush, so there are more to carry around, as if a big palette wasn’t enough.
This palette doesn’t change my mind. 🙂
Same here! Mega palettes aren’t my friend, lol! I think the only ones I tend to like are ones that feature more permanent products – e.g. MUFE!
