MAC Enchanted Eyes/Navy Eyeshadow Palette Review, Photos, Swatches
MAC Enchanted Eyes/Navy Eyeshadow Palette
MAC Enchanted Eyes/Navy Eyeshadow Palette ($39.50 for 0.15 oz.) includes six eyeshadows with a muted, smoky, blue-leaning vibe. Again, it’s a palette with three so-so shades and three misses, so there’s nothing here that’s particularly impressive. You’re better off choosing a quad of your own MAC eyeshadows, so you can pick good ones instead of this mish-mash!
Backlit is described as a “soft cream nude [with a Veluxe Pearl finish].” It’s a light beige with subtle, cooler undertones and a frosted sheen. It had semi-opaque color coverage with a soft consistency, but admittedly, mine arrived broken so it can be harder to tell as it looser overall. It wore well for seven and a half hours. MAC Creamy Bisque (LE, $17.00) is less shimmery (95% similar). MAC Smoked Cocoa #1 (LE, $17.00) is less shimmery (95% similar). bareMinerals Nude Beach (LE, ) is warmer (90% similar). ColourPop Acorn (P, $6.00) is warmer (90% similar). Buxom Silk Sheets (P, $12.00) is warmer (90% similar). Guerlain Les Tendres #1 (LE, ) is warmer (90% similar). See comparison swatches / view dupes side-by-side.
Softly Rockin’ is described as a “warm taupey grey [with a Lustre finish].” It’s a light-medium taupe with neutral-to-warm undertones and a frosted finish. This shade also arrived broken, so it was harder to tell just how smooth it was, but it didn’t seem that sparkly or glittery as you might expect a Lustre to feel like. It had semi-opaque coverage and lasted for eight hours on me. Urban Decay Verve (DC, $19.00) is more shimmery (90% similar). Sephora Morning Freshness (DC, $10.00) is more shimmery, darker, warmer (90% similar). Guerlain Taupe Secret (01) (P, $34.00) is darker (85% similar). MAC Breaking Ground (LE, $21.00) is darker (80% similar). YSL Saharienne #5 (PiP, ) is darker (80% similar). Chanel Tisse Riviera #3 (PiP, ) is darker (80% similar). Bobbi Brown Rockstar (LE, $22.00) is darker (80% similar). See comparison swatches / view dupes side-by-side.
City Beat is described as a “creamy light brown [with a Satin finish].” It’s a medium brown with a satin finish. It had good pigmentation with a soft, blendable consistency that applied well and lasted for seven and a half hours. MAC Fabness (PiP, ) is darker (95% similar). NARS Rome (P, $19.00) is more shimmery, darker (95% similar). Tarte Dancer & Prancer (LE, ) is warmer (90% similar). LORAC Navy #5 (LE, $19.00) is darker (90% similar). NARS Thessalonique II (PiP, $19.00) is less shimmery, darker, cooler (85% similar). Chanel Prelude #3 (P, ) is darker, more muted (85% similar). Stila Stone (LE, $18.00) is more shimmery, lighter (85% similar). NARS Kashmir (P, $19.00) is more shimmery, warmer (85% similar). Gucci Beauty Tuscan Storm #2 (DC, ) is darker (85% similar). Burberry Pale Barley (102) (P, $29.00) is warmer (85% similar). Dior Minimalism (P, $29.50) is darker, cooler (80% similar). NARS Lahore (P, $19.00)(80% similar). See comparison swatches / view dupes side-by-side.
See the Stars is described as a “warm mid-tone grey [with a Frost finish].” It’s an iridescent navy blue with a pearly sheen. It had semi-sheer color payoff with a firm texture that was harder to apply and use. It lasted for seven hours before fading. ColourPop Bassline (P, $4.50) is brighter (90% similar). Sephora + Pantone Universe Citadel (LE, ) is lighter (85% similar). Smashbox Steel (P, ) is less shimmery, darker (80% similar). NARS Self Portrait 2 #3 (DC, $25.00) is darker (85% similar). See comparison swatches / view dupes side-by-side.
Blue Velvet is described as a “vibrant midnight blue [with a Velvet finish].” It’s a blackened navy blue with a satin finish. It had semi-sheer pigmentation with a dry, firm, and difficult-to-blend consistency. The color wore for seven hours. Tarte Starry Night (LE, ) is darker (95% similar). MAC Waft (LE, $17.00) is more shimmery (90% similar). Too Faced De La Mer (PiP, $16.00) is lighter, brighter (90% similar). Tom Ford Beauty Starry Night #4 (PiP, ) is more shimmery, lighter, cooler (85% similar). MAC Indigo Blend #2 (LE, ) is lighter (85% similar). Lancome Midnight Purple (LE, $19.00) is darker, more muted (80% similar). See comparison swatches / view dupes side-by-side.
Cool Dive is described as a “soft charcoal [with a Matte finish].” It’s a medium black with neutral-to-warm undertones and a matte finish. It was incredibly stiff in the pan, and the resulting color payoff was sheer and uneven. It started to fade after six and a half hours of wear. Too Faced Coal (LE, $16.00) is cooler (95% similar). LORAC Navy #7 (LE, $19.00) is more pigmented, warmer (95% similar). Stila Essence (PiP, ) is lighter, more pigmented (95% similar). Anastasia LBD (LE, $12.00) is warmer (95% similar). Too Faced Stiletto (LE, $16.00) is darker, more pigmented (90% similar). KVD Beauty Black Metal (LE, ) is darker, more pigmented (90% similar). Smashbox Ebony (LE, ) is darker, more pigmented (90% similar). MAC Blackboard (LE, $17.00) is more pigmented, warmer (90% similar). See comparison swatches / view dupes side-by-side.

LOL! This is doing a much more terrible job than I’m doing today.
Are you going to bother repressing the broken shadows?
To be honest, unless I actually LOVE it and think I’d use it again, I wouldn’t bother (so I won’t here).
Is Cool Dive the worst e/s ever, or what? Who ever heard of a black shadow with ZERO payoff? Fie on you, MAC!
lol!
Why are MAC’s holiday palettes always so bad?!? C’mon guys!
It makes you wonder!
Oh thanks MAC, I just had a good laugh! You thought Carbon was terrible? They’ve got Cool Dive for you, lol!
Maybe they did that on purpose, haha! We complain about Carbon, then they give us something just as bad/worse.
I loved the colours, the idea behind those shades are just right for a soft cool smokey eye. Too bad the quality is bad. See the stars still looks good though it would probably be dissappointing either.
It’s always a bummer – they put together nice combos but ruin it with poor quality!
Whyyyyyy does MAC do this? I want to like MAC, I really do, but when they create these atrocities I just can’t. You would be better off buying $1 eye shadows from ELF, this is a rip off of a product. I don’t get it, why damage the reputation of your company when you have plenty of money to spend on good quality product?
Exactly!! I feel like someone who buys one of these thinks they’re getting “MAC” quality but really aren’t!
For the life of me, I just don’t comprehend how the same company that has given us some of the BEST eyeshadows around within their permanent range, and even quite a few of their LE collections, pulls this utter crap EVERY single holiday season!!! It’s an embarrassment to their name and brings down their reputation!
MAC, please don’t EVEN next year!!!
It is SO insane to me how bad they can be in palettes now 🙁
Its actually insulting to the consumer at this point.
WTH???? $40 for this junk? This has got to be one of the worst palettes I’ve ever seen. The 4 light shades look almost the same swatched, the “blue” looks sad, and the “black” looks like a stain that’s beeen washed 10x. I’m better off getting my makeup in the clearance bins at the dollar store. So sad to see how far MAC has fallen
It is really a sad sight to see!
Again another well edited palette; nice sophisticated looking group.. what a disappointment!
Exactly 🙁
Oh, no. Soft powders or rough delivery?
My guess is rough delivery! e
This is the 2nd blog I’ve seen where this palette arrived broken. Bummer!
MAC needs to get it together.
Well, the upside is that it was a press sample, so I’d expect customers who buy it to at least not get broken ones!
I am at loss for words at that “Cool Dive” swatch….
lol!
Two “F’s”, not good.
Agreed!
The last two were horrible. The pigmentation is lacking big time . It’s a shame, they looked so pretty in the pans.
It is a sad palette 🙁
Unbelievable how bad Cool Dive is….it actually makes Carbon look good!
I feel like maybe MAC was trying to teach us a lesson for complaining about Carbon!
Ahhh… this is everything I’ve come to expect from MAC! 😉
Seeing broken eyeshadows hurts me deep inside. Sadly, I experienced some myself a few days ago when two palettes hit the tile floor! Fortunately, I only lost one eyeshadow. Whew!
Oh, so glad it was just one! LOL, I was unpacking a few and dropped them, and I was like “Oh great, it makes it 700 miles, breaks from a 4″ drop!”
Probably because all our floors out here have concrete DIRECTLY under whatever flooring we may have! In 13 years, I’ve lost more than a few things due to these floors with zero give. The only up side to that palette breaking is now you’re spared from having that hot mess layin’ around!
Oops! You didn’t mean this one, did you? ?
Ha ha ha!
Wow what a stinker. And that mess! Did it arrive to you shattered like that?
It arrived like that, but it is a press sample! I’ve always had good luck with MAC’s e-commerce site for shipping.
This is just awful. I haven’t seen a good review for the navy palette yet. This is the second review I’ve seen with a broken palette from this collection. Are the shadows really fragile?
I think it may have just gone through the wringer – it was a press sample, but I don’t even think I’ve ever had anything broken from MAC’s site (when buying).
Yikes, yeah for sure. Several bloggers received this and the navy one broken! C’mon MAC.
I wonder if the press samples for Navy just went through an unusual level of handling!
So the palette arrived with two shades completely destroyed? Wow!
Unfortunately, yes!
What a mess! Oh my – did it break during delivery? I wouldn’t buy ANYTHING from MAC unless I read your review first. This is terrible – what a waste of money.
Yes, it was broken when I opened it, unfortunately!
MAC should be ashamed of themselves for putting this palette out. This is the first time I haven’t seen an eye look(from you) after the swatches.
I was hoping to take photos, but I found it more challenging to do so while moving house (even though I was still doing the testing portion).
Were you even ABLE to get a halfway decent look from this palette?
Cool Dive just feels like an insult at this point.
Haha!
Wow, this MAC palette is #EpicFail. LOL! Can’t believe the difference in quality between regular line eyeshadows and these palette releases. Thanks for doing the review, Christine!
It’s a real doozy 🙁
Embarrassing for you to get this upon receipt.
I waiting 2 weeks to get my Harrods package to be sent to the U.S.A. It was in customs for 4 days because of the cosmetics.
So please with Harrod’s packaging. So happy everything came pristine. Selfridge’s packaging is yuck. Now that Harrods sell Suqqu, not a lot but enough, I plan to buy from Harrods. The 10% off plus the removal of VAT makes purchasing there cheaper than buying from the U.S. If you buy a lot even with the shipping charge.
Thank you for the heads up about Harrod’s – will keep it in mind for any overseas purchases!
Well dang MAC. This is just tragic!!! I guess the neutral one really was the best of the three despite it being far less than perfect itself.
Sadly, the warm one is the best, and it’s not even that good!
This is so disappointing ….Backlit and Soft Rockin look very similar …. But do people still buy Mac Holiday Repromotes? I can’t believe they get away with such poor products
That is… embarrassing…
Agreed!
What happened to the palette?? LOL
A question that needs an answer in more ways than one!
MAC really doesn’t have a handle on dark blues.
The only good thing about these palettes is that they include a real brush rather than a sponge.
That’s looking on the positive side 😉
What the… How can they even release a palette like this?? Are they not concerned about ripping off and/or disappointing people at all?
It’s a good question!
When I see that MAC is making a mockery of us… Makes me feel better knowing I will never buy from them again. Their quality is in the toilet these days. I can hear it right now in the MAC corporate office…
I’m bored. Lets come out with a LE edition line… Call everyone in so we can throw ideas in a hat and pull one out.
Yeah uh, NO thanks.
(they also test on animals)
Haha, and i thought that the UD Naked Smoky Palette was crappy…
Mac can do better. I wonder why the quality is so bad??
Oh man to say that this is an abyssmal disappointment would be an understatement. You’d think that Mac would deliver a more especially with a $40 price tag!
Cool Dive. what???? I mean, how? How is it even possible to make a black eyeshadow with no pigmentation at all. Makes you almost long for Carbon ;P
