MAC Divine Desire Paramour Pink Kit Review, Photos, Swatches

MAC Divine Desire Paramour Pink Kit

Pretty in Pink & Coral

MAC Divine Desire Paramour Pink Kit ($70.00) contains Divine Desire (blush, bright pink), Heart to Heart (lipstick, mid-tone yellow pink), Warm Embrace (lipglass, cool rosy pink with pearl), Purple Dash (Technakohl, intense aubergine), and 129SE (blush brush).

The blush is 0.09 oz. (not full-size, it is about the size of the larger MAC eyeshadow pots), lipglass is 0.17 oz. (full-sized), lipstick is 0.10 oz. (full-sized), and eyeliner is 0.012 oz. (full-sized). The kit contains $53.00 worth of product, excluding the brush. The full-sized 129 retails for $35. The price point of this kit is rather high, and I don’t think that they’re really delivering on value here; at most, you’re getting what you pay for, but it’s not a value kit. Even if we give the brush $20 value, you’re only saving $3 by purchasing everything together. The whole set is housed in a pink satin container with a glossy black trim and bow at the enclosure. You could use it as a very small clutch later on, as the plastic insert is removable. If it’s packaging you would reuse, then this set has more value to you than the products alone.

Divine Desire is a cool-toned, medium pink with a shimmer-sheen finish. It has a frost finish. The texture was soft and blendable, and it lasted for eight hours without fading on my cheeks. MAC Whole Lotta Love is warmer, less blue-based. MAC Supernova is darker, pinker. MAC Weekend Getaway is a bit pinker. Tom Ford Wicked is very similar–it has a bit more of a pink sheen. MAC Feeling Flush is a bit darker.

Heart to Heart is a coral-pink with a soft, frosted sheen. It has a Cremesheen finish. This shade lasted five hours on me, but it was a little drying (Cremesheens typically are drying for me). Chanel Enjouee is darker. Guerlain Gracy is darker and brighter. MAC Force of Love is pinker. MAC Watch Me Simmer is very close, perhaps a smidgen brighter. Wet ‘n’ Wild Hot Paris Pink is similar. Chanel Phoenix has a little more red in it.

Warm Embrace is a soft, yellow-toned light pink with subtle shimmer. It yields semi-opaque color coverage, and it lasted for three and a half hours on my lips. NARS Candy Says is pinker. Chanel Caprice has gold shimmer. MAC Razzledazzler is creamier.

Purple Dash is an eggplant purple that doesn’t have a strong red undertone. There is subtle gold sparkle and a gentle sheen. It’s weak on color, and even when layered, it doesn’t build well or evenly. Make Up For Ever #4l is similar.

129SE is a dense, slightly domed blush brush. Overall, it is okay; it’s a little scratchier than the full-sized 129, but the 129 isn’t the best blush brush (not the softest, it’s a bit rough on skin). It felt softer before I washed it; once I washed it a few times, I found it shed noticeably and felt scratchy against my skin. I didn’t even realize it came with a brush until I read the press release to get the official color descriptions! In case, you, too, haven’t discovered it, the brush is held in the pouch attached to the interior of the lid.

Three of the four color products worked well. Purple Dash isn’t as opaque in a single pass as it could be, and it doesn’t build up color well–and it’s a problem that a lot of purple eyeliners suffer from. The lipstick and blush were excellent, while the lipgloss was good.

I absolutely love the blush and lipstick from this kit. But the lipgloss would be too pale for me and the liner looks too dry. I think there is another kit with just lip products (mostly bright pinks), I’m hoping that is better value and quality! Waiting for your review on that one.

queenielizzie Avatar

Gosh MAC sure is releasing A LOT of holiday items! You must be about at saturation level with doing these reviews. With so many of these being disappointing I’m looking forward to your reviews of other brands holiday sets!

The eyeliner shade just seems so out of place with the rest of the shades. It’s nice to see the products (overall) perform well, though, however these shades aren’t for me. Well, except maybe the gloss, but I probably have something similar.

fabiola Avatar

I love these shades of color, they look so good on you Christine.
I do not care for the eyeliner, and yet I’d buy it if it wasn’t so expensive.
Thank you Christine.

Yay A- =D

I wanted to get this set the first moment I saw it.. Pink is my favorite colir & that clytch is so cute <3

I had to seek help to get it though! Cuz MAC is not accepting my card

Anyways I glad the products are generally good! Can't wait to get mine

The colors of lipstick and blush look great on you, Christine. I actually played with this set in the MAC store today and since I’m so fair the blush was too bright for me – I think Benefit’s Bella Bamba is as bright as I can go. I do love to go VERY bright with lipstick, however, and when I put it on my hand, it just looked weak on my pale pinkish skin – sort of washed-out. Force of Love is much brighter on me, therefore more flattering. I was hoping the lipstick would pull to a happy pink color on me like it does on you, but alas, no luck. Can’t win ’em all, but I went with the Primped Out pink lip bag instead – that color is more my speed. I LOVE how Heart To Heart looks on you though – maybe soon I’ll find a reddish pink that looks that way on me. 🙂 Thanks for your review!

I totally agree about the value for what you’re getting. I like the swatches/look of the products, but $70 just seems like an awful lot for them.

Amy Avatar

I wish I could purchase the lipstick & blush separately.. they are so pretty, but the other products are just not something I would use, so the $70 price tag makes it a no-go

Jennis Avatar

I checked out all of their holiday items and was a bit disappointed. They don’t seem like winter colors and packaging to me. I went a little nuts last year so I think I’ll pass. But the pinks do look nice on you!

Jade Avatar

I haven’t seen very many frosted blushes, it looks odd in the pan and swatch, but lovely on! I’ll pass on this one though, and the other kit looks too peach for my tastes.

Liandra M. Avatar

Hey Christine! Would you be reviewing the other face kit in Quite Coral? If so can you please tell me which you prefer.

P.S. How is the quality of the packaging? Will it break easily or get dirty? THANKS FOR THE LOVELY REVIEW… I would really like to purchase one

Christine Avatar

I don’t think satin/cloth is a particularly great choice for packaging when we’re dealing with makeup, as undoubtedly, it will get dirty! It’s kind of like a satin purse or the like – you would treat it with a little more care than perhaps a leather purse, which is more resilient.

Adaora Avatar

I’m not entirely sure I agree with the comments which say that it’s too expensive. MAC usually costs $15-18 a tube (same thing you see here), and probably another $10 or so for the packaging. You’re paying a little extra for the luxury and so either go for it or don’t. I’m ready to make it mine.

xamyx Avatar

I agree with you about the pricing. I think alot of people have just gotten used to “Holiday priced” items, where you get *more* for your money. However, MAC has consistently charged by the piece on all of their sets, so I don’t get why anyone is shocked now. Unless it’s a set of “minis”, I expect MAC to charge what they would individually.

With the quality of this set, I would actually consider it, however the blush & lipstick would look awful on me, the gloss is so dupeable (and I likely have something already), and the eyeliner isn’t worth $70 by itself.

Melody Avatar

Not so original and (imo compared to other holiday sets) overpriced but it is very pretty. I love the lip colors but it’s not worth the money for me personally, although I’m sure this will make a lovely and simple gift.

Dusty Avatar

That price tag just seems too high… even without reading your breakdown my initial thought was “MAC isn’t a luxury brand… what’s with the price tag?” I think even something like $59 would be easier to swallow.

Christine Avatar

I think it’s sticker shock at $70, regardless of whether the products are as much individually as they are together. In the past, there’s always been some savings (and not just by adding the “value” of bag), I believe. I’d have to go back and do the math on prior years to confirm, though.

Jade Avatar

It’s going to be interesting to see what this goes for in Australia. Our MAC prices are more than double ($36 for lipstick, $35 for lipglass, $35 for technakohls) but items that are already very expensive in the states sometimes don’t get marked up quite so much. At any rate I’d have to LOVE it to buy it at our prices, most of the time I order from overseas.

Monet Avatar

Hey Christine,

Thanks for your completely honest reviews. I have enjoyed MAC products in the past and there are some awesome jems, but I feel in recent years they have gotten greedy and are putting out some terribly preforming items. I know us MAC lovers get caught up on the hype and packaging, but we need your perspective to keep us looking at MAC objectively and not as the gods of makeup. lol Keep up the great work.

Jennie Avatar

Agreed. I haven’t purchased a MAC holiday item in about 10 years, and the decline in quality is astonishing. And for something at this price point, I’d have to be absolutely in love with every item in the kit to actually shell out this kind of money. I think they are taking advantage of the kinds of buyers that get sucked in by limited edition items/packaging.

VickyM Avatar

The price tag is sadly very high…even though I love the blush and lipstick, I wish I could get them separately, the packaging and the eye liner are nice, but not good enough for me to go out of my way to purchase them, considering they are not Guerlain, Chanel, Dior, Burberry etc. Sadly I think 70 is too much and I will pass, still I hope they release the lipstick and blush separately in the future so that I can buy them 🙂 .

auroragyps Avatar

I agree. I love the blush, lipstick, and the lip glass too, but not enough to spend $70. I don’t need another blush brush, the liner look so weak, and while the makeup case is pretty, it’s going to get dirty fast. I’m not impressed with this year’s Holiday collection at all.

Ani_BEE Avatar

I was going to skip this one but talked myself into it at the last moment. Glad it didn’t but the price point really was bothering me. 🙁 wish they skipped on the brush to bring the price of these sets down because really we want the products not the cheap tools. lol

Lizz Avatar

I have such pale skin, do you think the blush would work on pale skin if it was just really lightly on? I think I could maybe pull off the lip stick. I wanted to get one of the sets, and this one looks like it would be better for my skin tones then the rest

Leticia Avatar

I wish I could get the LS and the LG only – they look beautiful! That’s the downside of this kind of sets, they’re really only worth it if you like all items. $70 is too steep for just loving two!

Carolina Avatar

Hi Christine!
Will the Heart to Heart lipstick be sold separately? Has it been released before? I love the color but won’t buy the palette just for it 🙁

Clara Avatar

It’s funny how different colors work. I’m Lancome 010 in skintone, and the lipstick is a dusty rose. I own Watch me Simmer as well and for me they don’t have any similarity.

sara Avatar

Great kit ! But im NW35 .. Will this look bright on me ?

And I was wondering what is the best value kit to get from the holiday collection ?
Thanks and keep up the good work !
