Digging It

MAC Digging It Lipstick ($17.00 for 0.10 oz.) is a rich, mahogany brown with warm, reddish undertones and a satin finish. It had mostly opaque color coverage that went on evenly and smoothly. The texture was lightly creamy so it didn’t tug on my lips when I applied the color directly from the tube, but the consistency sat well on the lips and did not slide around over the six hours this shade lasted for. I noticed a slight, reddish stain left behind after wear. The formula was non-drying to me.

Formula Overview

$19.00/0.1 oz. - $190.00 Per Ounce

MAC Lipstick comes in a variety of finishes, and the pigmentation and wear tend to be dependent on the finish. The sheer finishes, like Lustres, tend to wear for only a couple of hours and have sheer coverage (as designed) and are non-drying.

Some of the original Matte shades have a stiffer, drier formula, while newer ones have a more velvety, silicone-feel to them, and the latter are creamier, more comfortable to wear, and easier to apply, but most Matte shades are quite pigmented and long-wearing, though some are drying.

The Amplified and Satin finishes tend to have good pigmentation, lightly creamy to moderately creamy consistencies with a bit of shine, and moderate to long wear with deeper, richer shades wearing longer. The Frost and Metallic finishes have the most variance between shades with coverage ranging from semi-sheer to opaque with average wear and non-drying to slightly drying formulas. All MAC lipsticks are vanilla-scented but have no discernible taste.

Night Mint

MAC Night Mint Lipstick ($17.00 for 0.10 oz.) is a soft, light-medium grayish green with a cream finish. It had good pigmentation and applied fairly evenly, despite the creamier, moderately emollient consistency that gave it a noticeable glossy sheen. I would have expected this to apply more unevenly and almost patchy due to the texture, so it was impressive that it went on as well as it did. The color wore well for four hours on me, and it felt slightly moisturizing.

In the Spirit

MAC In the Spirit Lipstick ($17.00 for 0.10 oz.) is a dark black with cooler, purplish undertones and a satin finish. It had mostly opaque color coverage that went on evenly. The lipstick had a lightly creamy texture that wasn’t too thin or too thick, so it adhered well to the lips and felt comfortable to wear but it didn’t slide around while worn. I was able to wear the color for five hours, and the formula was neither drying nor hydrating while worn.

I find the color of Night Mint really fascinating. It’s too light to look good on me on its own, but I think I’d like to have it to use with deeper greens for ombre looks. And In the Spirit looks like a nice black — on my monitor, it looks like you can see a bit of red in it.

Digging It is a pretty cool shade, reminds me quite a lot of their Deep Love from last winter! Close enough anyway that I don’t think I need Digging It.
Night Mint *could* look great on someone with very different coloring than my own. But against mine, this would look like I smeared one of those old greenish mud masks on my lips! ?

I’m impressed by Night Mint. It’s rare, isn’t it to see a colour like that looks so good. I just wish I could pull it off. The other two are really very good as well, and more in my comfort zone, though I never expected me to say that about a brown lipstick two years ago. I think this one is really gorgeous, and that’s probably due to the red tone in it. And what can I say, a black with purple undertones, what’s not to love!

Night Mint might be the closest dupe to a Jeffree Star Dirty Money that I can find. I really like that shade, but I’ve chosen not to buy from his brand. honestly I would prefer if Night Mint were a liquid to matte lipstick. it’s too creamy for my taste, but the colour is so ME that I just might give in. Maybe i’ll just blot and powder it a bunch or somethin.

Wow that’s a beautiful mahogany brown. Christine I have a question, totally out of context, I still have a tube of the old slimshines, in ultra elegant. Do you happen to know of a Mac dupe for that one??? I asked Mac in the live chat and they recommended Touch, and I was also thinking Mocha. Wanted to check with you first. That’s my ultimate favorite peachy/brown- the ultra elegant! I have been searching for a dupe for a long time!
