LORAC Pirates of the Caribbean Cheek Palette Review, Photos, Swatches
Pirates of the Caribbean
LORAC Pirates of the Caribbean Cheek Palette ($30.00 for 0.54 oz.) includes three highlighters and three blushes. The palette features the brand’s Light Source Illuminating Highlighter and Color Source Buildable Blush formulas. The highlighter formula is supposed to be buildable and luminous, but my experience with them was that they were quite pigmented–soft enough to blend them out or use a bit less for sheerer coverage, just not what I’d actually describe as buildable. As you might guess from the name, the blush is supposed to be buildable, though two of the three shades were rather pigmented and one was more medium and buildable. The palette’s more amped up pigmentation was why it was rated lower, but if you’re the type of person who wants more pigmented highlighters and blushes, then it should work well for you.

Fortune
Fortune is a light white with warm, creamy undertones and a metallic sheen. It was richly pigmented with a soft, smooth consistency that was easy to blend out on the skin and did not appear to emphasize my skin’s natural texture. It wore well for eight hours on my cheekbones before fading.

Lost Soul
Lost Soul is a muted, medium beige with subtle, warm, rosy undertones and a matte finish. It had opaque pigmentation in a single layer, so if you really wanted to build up the color, I would recommend using a more feathery brush and light touch. The color deepened after I applied it over bare skin (and it would likely do the same over damp liquid/cream base products), but if applied over lightly powdered skin, it retained its pan color. The texture was soft, smooth, and blendable with just a smidgen of excess kicked up in the pan. The blush lasted well for seven and a half hours on me.

Destined
Destined is a light, golden beige with warm undertones and a sparklign, metallic sheen. It was really brightening on my skin tone while also illuminating the area that I applied it to. The powder felt soft, dense but not firm or stiff, and was blendable on the skin. When I wore it at fuller coverage, it emphasized my skin’s natural texture slightly, but at medium coverage or less, it did not. It was very pigmented, and it was only “buildable” if I used a light hand with it. The highlighter stayed on well for eight hours before fading.

Caribbean
Caribbean is a muted, medium-dark mauve with neutral-to-warm undertones and a matte finish. It had semi-sheer to mostly opaque, buildable color payoff, which was in line with the formula’s claims. The texture was on the dustier side, but the powder blended well and sat nicely on the skin. On me, the blush started to show signs of fading after seven and a half hours of wear.

Star Reader
Star Reader is a bright, white gold with almost grayish undertones and a warmer, greenish-gold shimmer. It was intensely pigmented, so use a lighter hand with this for a less intense highlight. The finish was nearly metallic, and it was so bright and reflective that it seemed to smooth my skin rather than accentuate my skin’s texture. It had a smooth, blendable consistency that was easy to work with. This shade wore well for eight hours on me.

Bold Spirit
Bold Spirit is a medium pink with warm undertones and a metallic sheen. The pigmentation was opaque in a single layer–a little went a long way–while the powder had a soft, lightly dense texture that applied beautifully to the skin and almost blended itself as I applied the color. The finish was very metallic, though, and I did get slight emphasis of my skin’s natural texture. As a highlighter, the powder stayed on nicely for eight hours before fading.

[sigh] My love for Star Reader just increased, and I don’t see any real dupes. I don’t have anything like Bold Spirit or Lost Soul (and I like them), but I can’t decide if that justifies purchase.
Bold Spirit is a fun one – I think that’s my fave of the palette!
This does have a rather beachy feel to it! Lost Soul is more my type of bronzing (or sunkissed?) blush for that effect, with Bold Spirit blended softly along the tops of my cheekbones would give me that “spent the day by the sea” effect, I believe!
Bold Spirit would be gorgeous on your skin tone, Nancy!
I’d pick up this palette for just the “Lost Soul” shade! It doesn’t look like there’s a lot of dupes to that particular shade either! Seems like a really well-built and really nice palette overall!
Not too many dupes for that one!
I love this!!! Looking at it, I could see myself using every shade.
If only I could GET this here!
I wish!! 🙁
Yeah, I miss the brand being at Sephora…. Amazon.com ships their products to Canada but the actual shipping rate deter me.
I think this is a really pretty palette. I love the packaging, too.
They did a nice job on this palette!
Oh gee, I should’ve picked this up with my 20% Ulta coupon. Two of the shades are unique to my stash and I just love them ( Star Reader & Bold Spirit), but I can wear all the shades, the price is very reasonable with 6 products. But I have gift cards, so will use that instead
I agree – it’s reasonably priced, on-theme, and just well-done!
There are several nice blush/highlighters on the market this spring! I haven’t decided which to buy yet. I was gong to pass on this, but, they all look so good on you. Your photos are also much better than the sites selling this. The price is so reasonable too.
Thank you, Valerie! 🙂 This turned out better than I expected.
Nice palette and the price is reasonable too!
I wasn’t at all expecting to like this but I really do, love it.
I LOVE the colors in this, oh my goodness. I might need to give up some of my Ulta points for this beauty!
OOOHHH, very cute.
Just gorgeous!
Which are the three blushes all I see as blushes are lost soul and Caribbean? Which one is the third
The right side contains the blushes.
