LORAC I Love Brunch Eyeshadow Palette Review, Photos, Swatches
I Love Brunch
LORAC I Love Brunch Eyeshadow Palette ($44.00 for 0.48 oz.) includes 16 eyeshadows with a mix of matte and shimmer finishes, cool and warm-toned shades that are centered around a pastel theme. This palette will be best for someone who normally uses an eyeshadow primer (or even a white-based/cream-colored base), likes softer colors, and prefers their pigmentation to be medium and buildable rather than intensely pigmented. The formula felt comparable to LORAC’s typical Pro palettes, but these felt denser and had more substance to them, so there was less excess product kicked up in the pan, and some shades lasted longer (without primer) than is typical.

Lavender
Lavender is a soft, light-medium lavender with cool undertones and a matte finish. It had good pigmentation with a smooth, soft feel that didn’t kick up excess product in the pan but still blended well and applied evenly. This shade wore well for seven and a half hours on me before creasing.

Eggs Benny
Eggs Benny is a soft, grayish green with a barely-there silver pearl. It looked more matte than shimmery on the lid. It had semi-opaque pigmentation that was somewhat buildable. The eyeshadow was soft, a touch on the thin side, and prone to sheering out on the lid, which is why it was only somewhat buildable when I tried using it. This shade wore well for seven hours on me before fading.

Smoothie
Smoothie is a light-medium lavender with subtle, warm undertones and a pearly sheen. It had good pigmentation that applied evenly to bare skin, while the eyeshadow itself felt soft, a touch dusty, but blendable, so it was easy to work with and did not have fallout. This shade stayed on well for seven and a half hours before fading.

French Toast
French Toast is a soft, golden pewter with warm undertones and a pearly sheen. The color payoff was opaque, while the texture was thinner than most of the brand’s shimmer eyeshadows, so there was a touch of fallout during application. It wore well for seven and a half hours on me.

Totally agree with you one your review. Some shades are great, but nearly half of them were subpar? Which is sad, because I was most excited for the matte pastel shades. Tried wearing blueberry scone with the LORAC primer but it kept disappearing! Had better luck layering it over the MAC paint pot in painterly as a primer. Keeping the palette anyway because all these shades are great for everyday.
My big tip is to use a smaller brush and pack the colors on (true of most pastels, IMO), and then only blend the edges that need it (no sweeping!) to minimize it disappearing!
I honestly think this is what the KVD Pastel Goth palette was supposed to be. So many beautiful pastel shades!
I’m glad this is more what you wanted!
I think the colors chosen in Pastel Goth were exactly as the brand intended – a mix of the Pastel Goth aesthetic and art pastels, though.
Different batches again I think. My palette is excellent. There’s only one shade, the lightest, that is somewhat lacking in pigmentation. Otherwise, all of mine are A+, A, A-, and B+. I wore 4 of the shades yesterday through rain, wind, and then sweating like mad. All of them lasted from 6 a.m. through 5:30 p.m. (when I finally removed my makeup) with no fading, creasing, or fallout. That said, I do use primer when I do my eye looks.
I don’t use primer, so I’m sure that would account more for the differences than batches!
Don’t tempt me Michele, lol ! I love the color scheme. Mmm I wonder if it would perform well for me.
Honestly, it wore really well for me. I am going to try playing with it using some of the new Nyx Vivid Colors Creams as a base. I already bought the one that’s a pastel lilac and plan on getting the pastel blue one.
Well, I was expecting a total Sephora Panetone disaster, but this looks pretty good for a pastel palette. Yes, a couple of duds, but the rest look like they will be workable with primer or cream base. And lots of unique, hard-to-find colors, so I’m willing to work with them.
A cream base should help!
BTW, I LOVE your eye look!!! Such a beautiful soft rainbow 🙂
Thanks, Katherine!
Doe it bother anyone else that all the names are very or vaguely “brunch-y,” and then there’s “Moonlight?”
No? Just me? Okay.
(I give “Lavender” a pass because it can actually be an ingredient.)
Moonlight is a color from another palette, so that might be why!
Right?! “Moonlight” didn’t seem to fit the theme to me either. No one goes to brunch in the middle of the night. While originally typing up this comment, I made a tongue-in-cheek remark about “maybe it’s a new trendy cocktail I’m unfamiliar with.” So I paused and decided to Google it. Apparently there IS a cocktail called the Moonlight, it’s a tweaked recipe from an Aviation, and it calls for gin, triple sec, creme de violette, and fresh lime juice shaken over ice and served in a champagne flute. I’m not entirely sure how popular it is or that LORAC’s people knew about this, but uhh.. They were able to use a previously released shade that they apparently desperately wanted to use again in this palette without having to change the name and still kept the theme, instead of creating a new eerily similar shade or just changing the name and being found out as liars when Christine inevitably swatched it and duped them 100%, lol
I would have expected a bit more from LORAC’s eyeshadow launch – I don’t think pastels are the easiest colours to produce so I think this was a valiant effort at doing so.
For pastels, they were pretty good – definitely some of the better ones I’ve tried!
I think French Toast was my favorite shade. Too many misses to consider it plus the fact that pastels often make me look horrible. You’d think being fair they would be great but they often look like a hot chalky washed out mess. Maybe if I was blonde it would not be so bad but having medium auburn-ish hair seems to be part of the problem.
French Toast is a neat one!
The spring/summer of pastel eyes and nude-ish lips is upon us!
Well, I do like many of these shades, and that you were definitely able to get a gorgeous soft rainbow eye looks from it. But I did just buy Pastel Goth, which will *probably* look better on me than this would because of my lighter eye color paired with slightly darker skin? I still haven’t used it yet! Then again, my wintery sweaters and tops, other than black, wouldn’t go with pastel anything. Good thing that a third of my tops are black!
Pastel Goth will have more oomph, I think!
This looks is beautiful! I wish I could see your tutorials again! =)
Glad you l iked it!
So so gorgeous! This is the pastel palette I’ve been waiting for since forever ?. Now I just need to find a way to get it to Europe ? haha
Awww!
I’m torn! I think it would be a nice compliment to Pastel Goth, but the shades I’d be most interested in are the ones that are the sub-par performers. I usually wear primer, so that definitely helps, but I may wait til I see it in store to try it out on myself. Thankfu
Definitely check it out in store if you can!
Your eye look is beautiful! This isn’t the worst pastel palette I’ve ever seen. I think I’m covered between the KVD Pastel Goth and Sephora Modern Watercolor, though. I don’t wear pastels a lot, and I can’t justify buying this if it’s not an “A” product.
Thank you, Rachel!
I love pastel colors altho never worn them on my eyes. At first I thought I want it! Then I thought naw now I think I want it.
It’s really different for me and the coral shades are kinda a turn off to me. Thanks for your great review! I appreciate your honesty so much after buying some products from reviews that I felt were ‘paid for’.
Your the best!
Happy to share, Janine! 🙂
This palette is certainly much better than the Sephora Pantene tragedy of a year ago, but still has its hits and misses. Not a fan of these shades myself, but I think it would work well for lots of other people.
So true, Genevieve! Still room for improvement, but it was better than I expected!
Would a lot of these shades look ashy on those with deeper skin tones? Would you recommend it to someone with a deeper skintone?
I think some of them will – some will have more contrast but a lot of them are still white-based!
I was debating this, pending review. You saved me some money. I don’t have pastels like this. I have to wonder if I would use them much anyway.
No problem, Staci! I’d definitely think about how often you’d use a palette of pastels and if it would be so rare that perhaps try patting a white eyeshadow over a mid-tone/bright shade 🙂
Looks like my small brushes will get a good work out. Better go get back ups. The colors are just so pretty, though, like sweet sherbet.
Enjoy!
Wasn’t considering this after seeing a few chalky swatches online, but that eye look, B review and a 20% Ulta prestige coupon sucked me in. Excited to play with it and see how to best use them. Also hoping more brands jump on this trend and perfect the pastel formula. ? Thank you for all the awesome work you do!
Hope you love your palette, Haley!
Between Kat Von D’s Pastel Goth palette and this one, which one would you recommend?
Do you want more white-based pastels or brighter pastels? I think they, ultimately, give quite different results/looks!
My biggest concern is pigmentation. I’ve heard the Lorac palette shadows all end up a bit white and chalky without a strong white base like the Nyx Milk Pencil. I was wondering if Pastel Goth had those same issues, or if you even noticed any pigmentation or texture problems with the Lorac palette?
