Lipsticks (Over $15) | 2022 Editor's Favorites
With nearly 400 different lipsticks swatched, tested, and reviewed in 2022 (that were priced at over $15), there were many brands and formulas to choose from. This year, some of the new (or new-to-me) formulas that stood out were Bobbi Brown Luxe Lipstick (reformulation of the prior Luxe Lipcolor range), YSL Bold High Pigment Lipstick, Rose Inc. Satin Lip Color, Urban Decay Vice Lip Bond, and Chanel Rouge Allure L’Extrait.

Glossover Averages
My methodology: If you’re unfamiliar with how I like to do my year-end favorites, here’s the low down: I pull from the products I reviewed in 2022, regardless of whether they were new, limited edition, or an established range I’ve only just gotten around to reviewing. These are personal favorites, so they may or may not be the highest rated products reviewed during the year (though they will tend to be better rated, naturally!). I thought it would be interesting to read through how readers used products throughout the year, what favorites emerged, what products fell by the wayside… so, if you want to join in, copy and paste the questions below and add your answers via a comment!

What was your most used lipstick? MAC Paramount, Heroine, Relentlessly Red, Nuez Moscato, and Show Off, PML Omi, Strangé, Lavish and Executive Realness, UD Broken and Sheer Slowburn.
Least used? Almost all my more unusual or super deep shades because I do still usually wear a mask in stores and for anything pertaining to medical appointments/treatments.
Will you repurchase it or will you look for something new? The only ones catching my attention lately are the Kaleidos Lip Clays, Maybelline Vinyl Ink Liquid Lipstick, and perhaps a Lisa Eldridge or Bobbi Brown lipstick.
Was lipstick a big part of your routine in 2022? Only on those relatively rare days where I wore a full face of makeup! Sadly, that amounted to anywhere from 0-3 days per week.
Forgot 2 other often used lipsticks up above: PML She’s Heaven and UD Uptight… noticing a pattern here.
What was your most used lipstick? Least used?
That’s an easy one for me to pick! My most used lipstick(s) were:
Maybelline’s Spice for Me and Mauve for Me, followed by MAC’s Fresh Moroccan. I have also been using some of my Shiseido’s Visionary Gel lipsticks as well.
Some of my favourites also include CP’s Lux lipstick – Foolish, Gallop and Tea Thyme
Least used would be MAC’s Chili (a bit too matte)
Will you repurchase it or will you look for something new?
I am always looking for shades in the spicy line, which is why I choose something similar from Shiseido’s Visionary Gel lipstick line – Sleeping Dragon, Scarlett Rush (new) and Shizuka Red
But I also wanted some red lipsticks – so I picked a few from Shiseido’s line – Lantern Red, Firecracker and Ginza Red.
Was lipstick a big part of your routine in 2022?
Yes, lipstick plays an important role in my overall beauty looks – it adds colour to my face and I enjoy wearing them all the time. I don’t use lip glosses/liquid lipsticks etc – creamy lipsticks are what I use and stick to.
★WHAT WAS YOUR MOST USED LIPSTICK? I’m not sure. Contenders are Burt’s Bees Lip Shimmer in Fig, Milani Color Statement Matte Lipsticks in Matte Naked and Matte Beauty, UD Vice Lipstick in Sheer Rapture (DC), Juvia’s Place The Nude Velvety Matte Lipstick in #2020, and Seraphine Botanicals Vegan Berry Tint in Cherry Berry.
LEAST USED? Most of them

I would repurchase them all, except for the discontinued UD shade.

I’m still not totally back in a routine. If I’m wearing makeup, I’m wearing usually wearing lipstick.
Rose Inc Eloquent became my new favorite neutral lipstick this year.
Unfortunately d/t my profession as a clinician in a university hospital I don’t get to indulge in lipstick much. Prior to the pandemic I wore bright lipstick everyday.
What was your most used lipstick? Least used? Most used, probably PMGL Luxetrance in Realness. Least used definitely Bite Beauty Kale.
Will you repurchase it or will you look for something new? I would probably repurchase it. I love the color and formula.
Was lipstick a big part of your routine in 2022? Not huge, as I was working from home most of the year and wore more glosses and balms.
