Kylie Cosmetics Royal Peach Kyshadow Palette Review, Photos, Swatches
Royal Peach
Kylie Cosmetics Royal Peach Kyshadow Palette ($45.00 for 0.60 oz.) includes twelve eyeshadows in a range of hues (all warm-toned except the blue) and finishes. The palette also has a fluffy brush, which I did not find particularly useful for applying other than diffusing transition shades in or around the crease (just too fluffy for lid color application for my application style).
What you might not know about the Kyshadow formula is that they are supposed to have “medium buildable coverage and a velvety smooth texture.” It’s unusual to see a brand proclaiming anything less than opaque coverage, and most of the eyeshadows were actually quite pigmented. I didn’t realize that until after I had scored the palette based on the eyeshadows needing to be pigmented, so I happen to know that score–83%–but when I re-rated based on the pigmentation claim, it still ended up coming to 83% (as the sheerer shades were boosted and the opaque shades were lowered). I liked the shimmer formula, but I didn’t care for the more sparkly shades (Duchess, North Star), as they had fallout and poorer application. The mattes were easy to use, blendable, and mostly buildable.
Edited to add: A reader asked me if my palette had any chemical scent, and I had not noticed anything prior. I went back to double check, and I couldn’t smell anything out of the ordinary with the palette closed, just opened, or in use. I put my nose right next to each shade, and I went up down the rows sniffing to see if there was anything I could smell, and around Royal (the blue shade), I did notice something, possibly metallic but sharp and definitely not a “powder” or typical “makeup” scent. I also then went and smelled a few other cobalt blue eyeshadows I have, and only one had a faint smell of metal but could not be sure as it was held in a metal palette, too.

Sorbet
Sorbet is a light-medium orange–like a creamy orange–with a matte finish. It had good color payoff with a slightly dusty consistency that blended out well and applied evenly. The eyeshadow was dense enough where it didn’t have fallout during application, even though there was powder kicked up in the pan from my brush. It wore well for seven hours before fading on me.

Seashell
Seashell is a medium, peachy brown with warm, rosy undertones and a golden sheen. The pigmentation was fantastic, while the eyeshadow felt smooth, dense without being stiff or heavy, and was easy to work with on bare skin. On me, the color lasted for eight hours before fading noticeably.

Peachy
Peachy is a bold, medium-dark orange with a hint of red, which mutes the color a bit, paired with a matte finish. The eyeshadow felt dusty in the pan, but it did not result in noticeable fallout when I was applying it to the lid, as the color adhered well to bare skin. It had good color payoff with a soft, blendable consistency. This shade lasted for eight hours on me.

Royal
Royal is a deep cobalt blue with strong, cool undertones and a satiny finish. It was the most dismal of the shades in terms of pigmentation (only medium coverage), though the eyeshadow was buildable, and this is the type of color that I have routinely seen swatch poorly but perform fine in practice. The consistency was slightly drier, and it could have been more blendable overall. It started to fade after seven and a half hours of wear on me.

Duke
Duke is a medium-dark copper with warm, orange undertones and a pearly sheen. The pigmentation was quite good, just a smidgen shy of truly intense, true-to-pan coverage. The texture was soft, not dusty at all but remained blendable on the skin. It wore well for seven and a half hours on me.

Duchess
Duchess is a sparkling bronze with warmer undertones. The consistency was chunkier, due to the larger sparkles in it, and it did not apply as smoothly to bare skin. This would be the type of texture I would recommend using with a damp brush and/or a glitter primer, as more of the sparkle/glitter would translate on the eye that way. When I blended this shade out, a lot of the sparkle came loose and some of the base color appeared ragged. The majority of the eyeshadow lasted for a solid seven and a half hours, but there was noticeable fallout.

Sandy
Sandy is a muted, golden brown with warm undertones and a matte finish. It had good color payoff with a smooth, velvety consistency that wasn’t too soft or too firm in the pan. There was enough softness that it was easy to blend out and use as a transition shade, but it didn’t sheer out immediately either, so it could be used all-over the lid, too. The color started to fade after seven and a half hours on me.

Mojito
Mojito is a bright, golden chartreuse green with a metallic finish. It leaned more golden than it did green. It had rich, opaque color coverage, but I had some trouble getting it to apply evenly on bare skin. It seemed like some of the shimmer was loosely bound or packed with the powder, so it did not go on as intensely as I expected. The eyeshadow lasted for seven hours on me before creasing. If I used this shade with a damp brush, application drastically improved.

North Star
North Star was a soft, medium lavender with strong, pink undertones and a sparkling, frosted finish. It had mostly opaque pigmentation, but the texture was drier and looser, which resulted in the color being quick to sheer out and lots of fallout. Crush
Crush is a medium coral-red with warm undertones and a satin finish. It had medium coverage, which was buildable to semi-opaque coverage on bare skin (this shade would need a primer for opaque coverage). The consistency was soft, lightly dusty, and prone to sheering out, which is why I struggled to build it beyond semi-opaque coverage. It started to fade after seven hours of wear.

This palette has some rrreally nice colors for sure.
Glad you liked some of the shades in it!
Just to let you know I noticed that the rating for Sandy on pigmentation was a 0 – which I assume you didn’t mean to do. 🙂
Should be fixed!
Seems like a pretty decent palette though I think with some of the bad press she’s gotten with respect to production, I’d actually spend it on BH Cosmetics or similar brands! Regardless, kudos to her for starting a makeup range like this though!
It’s decent – not amazing but not bad!
I’m not a fan of the way this brand sells out so quickly. I think they do it on purpose to make items seem in demand so they sell better. There’s no way the just can’t make enough to stay in stock. I guess it’s working for them. Still not getting any of my money.
Gotcha!
I agree. She knows the demand is high.
But it works I guess. I really hate supporting her brand, but the shadows are top quality. Bronze palette is my go-to.
To be fair, when you’re releasing a new item you’re never sure how well it’s going to do. So it’d be dumb to order a huge amount of stock only for it not do well and you have to discount it and lose money (I.e. Urban Decay’s Full Spectrum palette, Jeffree Star’s Summer and Holiday collections, etc). She typically has everything in rock more recently and restocks in a week or two.
I agree. I’ve noticed in the past that absolutely everything in the website was out of stock. Nowadays almost everything (except a new product) is available to buy. I think it’s smart to start off with limited stock.
I think this palette is very pretty but I don’t know if I’m going to purchase on the next restock(the first release of this sold out in 9 minutes how annoying). In my comment on the Peach palette swatches (the original post for this palette)I mentioned Kylie copied someone else’s photos without giving photo credit and images of the lip with the drips of color that is on the packaging of her lip kits.I spelled her Instagram handle wrong in that post if anyone wants to look her up or read about what happened it’s @vladamua and her name is Vlada Haggerty.I said before I love peachy tones always have since I was young but I don’t think I want to support someone that is stealing images from a makeup artist and using them to sell her brand and acting like that never happened.
It did sell out very quickly — too quickly, really! I have seen/read about similarities about the logo/packaging for the Lip Kits, but it has been unclear whether it’s merely inspired by others (e.g. dripping lip color, which has been done for years, but from what I have read, it is something made more popular recently by Vlada) or if someone on the brand’s team (or those hired for shoots) specifically copied that artist. I think that the more recent promotional shot makes it seem like someone is, at least, getting inspiration from that makeup artist, though, and hopefully, the brand is looking into that and ensuring they don’t work with those individuals again/putting procedures in place so it doesn’t happen again and reaching out to the artist.
I don’t think it would have been a huge issue with the last photo(the image with the red ombré lip and hands covered in gold pigment)but she didn’t give Vlada photo credit. The fact that its happened several times is so wrong.Im a cosmetologist and if I had been posting looks that I created with a team for a shoot or a magazine spread and someone was passing it off as their own work it would be very upsetting.I actually looked back throughout Vlada’s Instagram and she has been creating images of lips with drips of product coming off of them since before Kylie Cosmetics was a brand.Im glad you have heard about all of this I figured you probably would have Christine because it seems like most people that are purchasing her brand don’t even know about it.
Oh, definitely – my point was that the concept of dripping lip color off of lips has been around for years (there are prints and creations on Deviant art from 2012, for example!), so it’s possible the logo was inspired by something that has been recreated and done by enough sources that I don’t know that you could say one person owns it. It is also possible that they were inspired by the artist’s work on Instagram, too. Hopefully, the company will find a way to make it clearer to the people they work with or hire for their campaigns to be better in the future. If it becomes so routine that it is done every campaign, it signals a larger problem from top-down, so I will keep my eyes peeled for new information.
What do you prefer (or recommend more)? This, or the TF Sweet Peach Palette? I already have the TF Sweet Peach and love the colors in that so I’m wondering if this would be worth it for the peachy shades 🙂
I don’t like Too Faced eyeshadows in general, so it’s hard for me to recommend any of their palettes! I don’t really think you need both since they have some overlap and you already have the Sweet Peach palette!
Thanks for your quick reply, Christine! Saving me some money 😀
I don’t support this brand, but I have to say this is a much nicer looking peach palette than Too Faced’s…
It seemed a little more in the vein of true peach, I think, with the yellow/orange tones in a lot of the shades.
This is truly a nice peach themed eyeshadow palette. Decent quality, too. However, given my strong feelings towards the Kartrashian klan, I will resist this temptation somehow.
It’s not amazing, so I feel like that should make it easy to resist! For the price, there are a lot of better palettes out there.
What would you say is a palette, worth the price, in the same vein as this one?
I think it’s tough to get a 1:1 palette that’s the same in terms of colors/finishes, and a lot of palettes are LE – I just think for nearly $50, it should be closer to B+/A-. ABH Modern Renaissance is one of the few permanent options that is really good, but it isn’t quite as warm-toned/yellow-based as this one. I’d say building a custom BUXOM palette might be a good way to have the “built-in” feel of a pre-made palette with the ability to get closer to this (in terms of finish/color). UD’s new Nocturnal Shadow Box has some overlap and is $29. Smashbox Ablaze has some overlap and is $29. Coloured Raine’s is warmer overall and is less peach as it is red/orange, but it is fantastic and $50.
To go with the peach theme, I think a matte green would’ve been better than a matte blue. I have enough warm brown/orange shadows so will be skipping this palette, but eyeing dupes for Northstar. BTW, love your eye look –looks like the gradient colors of a peach
Thanks, Katherine!
I was on the fence about this one- the swatches you posted in the sneak peek looked nice, but your comments that some of the shades like North Star, Duchess and even Mojito to an extent didn’t apply well or had fallout made me rethink. The final clincher not to buy was looking at the dupes for each of the shades I really liked. I already have Anastasia Macaroon -a dupe for North Star- and it performs beautifully, so with that, Makeup Geek Poppy and a few other random peachy shadows I think I can get all the peach looks I could want, since it’s not a color combo I’m strongly drawn to.
PS I love the recent changes to your review format where it shows the rating of each individual shade and its dupes next to the swatch! Makes it so easy to browse through and see how each shade performs and which are the most unique to my collection. Thanks for continuing to improve your website, you’re kind of the top dog for consistent makeup reviews and pictures so it would be easy to never change and adapt but you do a great job of creating a increasingly smooth experience 🙂
Sounds like you have perfect dupes 🙂 The color of North Star is pretty, but the texture makes it more frustrating to work with compared to ABH Macaroon!
Thank you so much, Abby! It is important to keep trying to improve and adjust as things change!
Does it smell bad to you, Christine? Today I saw a review by a youtuber called Shopper Mandy, and she said the palette smells strongly like chemicals ☹️
I didn’t notice any scent with mine when photographing or using it. I just went to smell it, and I wasn’t getting anything until I had my nose nearly in the eyeshadow and then I got a little bit of something (chemical, maybe – not just powder) around the deep blue shade but I don’t get that scent with my nose that close to the other shades. There was definitely no detectable scent (to my nose, which I’d say is fair – not particularly great but can get headaches from scents) just opening the palette or wearing the eyeshadows, though.
It’s alright but not my style.
Totally understand!
The holiday palette was such a crap show. I think I will skip this just because that was SO bad.
Oh no!!
OMG right? I was really excited to get the Holiday palette and then when I went to try it I was just so underwhelmed. So disappointing, I really regret splurging on that.
Love your eye look with this!
Thanks, Betty!
Not much better than Sweet Peach, it seems.
Just barely!
I like the colors in the Kylie palettes but don’t think they’re worth purchasing…I’d rather see what good quality dupes there are and make my own palette…so I really appreciate all the dupes possible Christine! 🙂 thanks!
Happy to help, La Doshis! 🙂
It’s a mixed bag here, but mostly good, warm and bright shades. The Royal Blue shade really stands out as being out of sync with the rest of the palette.
I can see why the blue is in the palette, but it is definitely harder to incorporate it with the other shades!
I really like that there are some matte shades here, and some bold shades as well. However, I know I won’t use Peachy, Duke or Crush, and probably not Cinnamon, so this is a skip for me.
I’m really trying this year to look more critically at ES palettes and only get the ones that I really REALLY fall in love with. 🙂
It’s a fun mix of shades, and though I know the blue isn’t everyone’s favorite inclusion, I like that it is unexpected!
Nice palette, I like it better than Too Faced’s but not enough to get it.
I can see why it’s not quite enough to buy!
I have so many dupes of these colors, and there are a few I wouldn’t use. I am impressed that the palette got such a good grade. Perhaps it will grow into a good quality for the money brand. I am going to pass, but it’s almost time for me to swap out my winter cosmetics for spring. I will make sure I have these colors in rotation. I am sure they will be trending with this palette, and I have it more than covered. I like the palette actually, I think it’s a nicely put together.
Happy to hear you have plenty of dupes already, Elizabeth!
Christine, is it true that there is terrible chemical-ly smell associated with the shadows/palette?
I didn’t notice anything until another reader asked, and when I went to sniff, I couldn’t smell anything unless I put my nose right against the eyeshadows and then I got a faint whiff of something not-quite-powder (almost metallic to me) from the blue – but it seemed to come from the blue eyeshadow.
Okay, there are some youtube reviews that mentioned it had a bad smell associated with it, some to the point that they didn’t want to keep the palette open, that they couldn’t breath near it. Sounded a bit dramatic to me. So, I just wondered. Thank you for answering 😀
I would never have noticed if not for someone asking and then going back – I was sniffing up and down each row of shades, and I was definitely getting something near and at the blue but it would fade significantly if I moved my nose to another shade. But I have seen a few others mention that their palette has an intense smell just opening it – so that is definitely concerning!
Yes, very concerning. Very true.
This palette has some promising shades, but I am not sure if I’m sold on it.
That makes sense! 🙂
I only like it for a few shades… other than that, I feel like I can’t wear most of the colors. Now I got the TF Peach palette, and I use all of the colors in the palette. ?
Have you ever tried getting the lipkits? I’d love to see your own input about them!
Glad you have something else that can be used instead!
I get the Kardashian name. And unhappy with the customer service situation which even I feel trepidation about when going to her website to buy, but I got the burgundy palette and fell in love. It’s now my everyday palette. I LOVE the pigmentation, the texture. and how easy it is to carry around and fit in my makeup bag. Too Faced Peach Palette just wasn’t special to me and I looked at it on 3 separate occasions in store, not including watching reviews online. I had my eye on some makeup geek and Anastasia single shades which this palette had versions of, so it was a no brainer for me. I think more of you should give it a shot, but thats just my opinion! 😉
Happy to hear that you are enjoying the Burgundy palette!
I actually managed to snap this one up in that short restock window and I’m kind of excited to give it a try. Minus that deep blue, the colors all look like something I would use on a daily basis. I’m a little sad North Star rated so poorly since that was one I was looking forward to using the most, so do you think if you patted it on your lids as opposed to using a brush that it would help with the sheer and the fallout?
I would use it damp or over a glitter adhesive!
Do you plan on buying any more of Kylie’s products??? I am interested to see a review/dupes for the Burgundy palette
Thanks for letting me know! Just FYI – it says this is a press sample at the top of the post, I did not purchase it.
my palette has a horrible chemical smell, like paint thinner when I put my nose to it . It is very strong and rather deterring . I wonder if there has been a mishap when making them and some got something in them that wasn’t supposed to be??? I have her other 3 shadow palettes and they are lovely with no smell.
Some are saying it’s the packaging, maybe the glue – I am not sure! If you depotted it, then you might be able to narrow down if it was packaging or the powder, but I would contact the brand to try and get a replacement first, if possible.
its the brush! I just posted a comment regarding this!
Hello Temptalia & Others! I just wanted to give an update on the palette! So I love the colors. Peachy is everything! HOWEVER, on the smell! —> Something smells. It smells like Sharpie. I smelled the palette, it’s not the palette and it’s not the makeup. Its the brush! I believe its the lacquer or similar on the brush! Since its her first time doing a brush in a first time launch its pretty clear to me they are working out the kinks. I would be curious to know if anyone noticed her individual brush set smelling too?
Thanks for sharing – interesting to hear it was the brush for you!
Hello
Yes, the brush set most definitely had a strong chemical-like, acrid smell. I purchased 3 as Christmas gifts and was overwhelmed by the scent…..and not in good way 😉 !
Will you be reviewing any other Kylie products? Great job by the way, the amount of work you put in, is really appreciated. Don’t know where my collection would be without this site, saves me from buying duplicates!
Sorry, I’m not sure!
Hey! I’ve been thinking to get the Peach palette or not, I really like the colors and LOOVE the looks people are doing with this palette but do you think I should go for it? I mean I really love the colors so much and love the looks you can do with it but do you think there are better dupes or cheaper ones I can find? or should I just go for this palette? I really love the colors and looks done with the palette but I don’t wanna buy something that isn’t worth the 45$ ? x
Seems like a ripoff of the Too Faced Sweet Peach Palette to me…
I love every shade in this palette! I tried to vive it a 4 star but it just went to 3 and wouldn’t let me change it.
