Guerlain #74, 78, 555 Rouge G de Guerlain Lip Colors (2018) Reviews, Photos, Swatches
#74
Guerlain #74 Rouge G de Guerlain Lip Color (2018) ($32.00 for 0.12 oz.) is a medium purple with strong, warm pink undertones and a natural sheen. It had good color coverage but wasn’t quite opaque, though the coverage was even and stayed out of my lip lines. The lipstick had a smooth, lightly creamy feel as it glided across my lips but never felt slippery while worn. I didn’t feel like it was as smoothing as some of the shades in the range, but it didn’t emphasize my lip lines. It stayed on well for five and a half hours and felt moisturizing over time.

Formula Overview
$36.00/0.12 oz. - $300.00 Per Ounce
The formula is supposed to have "intense colour" with a hydrating base that includes things like jojoba and mango butter as well as hyaluronic acid (and gugul resin) to "help to smooth and plum up lips." I would describe the formula as somewhere between semi-opaque and opaque, often buildable, with a luminous sheen that seems like there's very, very fine pearl but less distinctive shimmer (except for the shades that are actually shimmery).
I find that the magic of the formula is in its finish--it's shiny, luminous, and absolutely smoothing on the lips without compromising wear (four to six hours, sometimes longer). The formula is very hydrating and comfortable to wear. They have a sweet, floral scent but no discernible taste to me. The updated shade range seems to have a stronger emphasis on mid-tones in coral and red and less beiges than before.
The Rouge G de Guerlain Lip Colors have been updated but mostly with respect to packaging and the shade range, as the formula itself has not been changed (per the brand). The lipsticks are now available as refills for $32.00 each, and then one can pick from an assortment of cases ($15.00 each), though each refill comes with a small, plastic cap that keeps the refill from drying out while waiting to be sold. The refill cap seems like it would be sufficient to keep the lipstick long-term, but I can't say from experience. I have not tested each shade for wear, but the shades I have tested, initial swatches and applications, and the like make the formula seem the same as before.
The old Rouge G cases do not fit on the new refills as the case doesn't stay on without a magnet (it just slides right off). I don't yet have any of the cases as they weren't available to me to purchase yet, but I plan to pick one or two up merely to see how they feel (probably the Original, to see if there was any weight change, and then something new).
A big upside to the refillable packaging is that they're actually significantly less expensive buying them piecemeal than buying it all-in-one. The original Rouge Gs were last sold at $58.00 for 0.12 oz., and now, the all-in-one price is effectively $47.00 for 0.12 oz. -- that's a nearly a 19% reduction in price.

#78
Guerlain #78 Rouge G de Guerlain Lip Color (2018) ($32.00 for 0.12 oz.) is a medium-dark berry with subtle, cool undertones and multi-colored pearl. It had good color coverage that applied evenly and fluidly across my lips without dragging or tugging. The texture was lightly creamy and a bit thicker than other shades, though still lightweight and comfortable to wear. This shade wore well for six hours, left a fain stain behind, and was hydrating to wear.

#555
Guerlain #555 Rouge G de Guerlain Lip Color (2018) ($32.00 for 0.12 oz.) is a deep, muted burgundy with soft, warm undertones and a luminous sheen. It had semi-opaque pigmentation in a single layer that applied fairly evenly, but it did not seem to adhere as well to my inner lip area. The texture was creamy but moderately slippery, and it was a more high-maintenance shade to wear as I felt it moving as I wore it. I did not personally experience feathering but this shade would be the one I’d be most concerned about if that’s an effect you’re more prone to experiencing. It wore well for five hours and was hydrating while worn.

I love seeing a true purple in the range! I wish they had done a better job on the dark shade, since that’s another thing they’ve been missing. Really, they could have just rereleased Gigolo, which was limited a few years back and was stunning. Still, so many of these are good that I’m trying not to complain.
74 is absolutely my kind of color. I pretty much love about 10 of these lipsticks and it would be so difficult to choose just one. Now that I’ve seen 74, I know which one would come home with me first?
I got #74 (purple), my first Rouge G ever!!! I didn’t buy any in the past, because there were too many reds, and I already had too many red lipsticks. So glad Guerlain came out with new colors and new cases!
Whoa… I’ve wanted for the longest time to own a Guerlain lipstick because of the raves about the quality, texture, wear, etc., but I felt like I couldn’t justify the price for what were essentially duplicatable colors. I’ve since bought similarly (or more!) expensive lipsticks (e.g. Pat McGrath), so that reason went away, but still couldn’t get over the not-terrible-unique colors. Now, #74 has made itself known. I guess I’ll finally be crossing the line.
#74 is probably the prettiest purple lipstick I’ve ever lain eyes on. Something about how lush and rich it looks, combined with a shade of purple that has enough warmth to be wearable on me. This may likely be my first of these new Guerlain lipsticks! Oh, and #65, too! ?
Poor #555. That shade ought to have been done better justice by Guerlain. Although, admittedly, this is a difficult shade to get just *right*.
#78 is gorgeous, it was high on my want list, but I decided to go with a couple other shades instead. More on that in my next haul post!
74 is the only one I’ve gotten so far and I really love it! Wearing it now actually ha.
I really love all three of these. I now have 3 of the Rouge G’s in the new customizable version and love each of them, although the first two were not what I expected. I picked up 65 and it is beautiful. Overall Guerlain did such an amazing job on this whole release. The customizable cases are all lovely and I want to get at least one more of them. I think 555 might be workable with a pencil underneath and MAC Nightmoth might do the trick. Will have to see 555 in person to tell if Nightmoth would be the right tone. Nightmoth is by far my most used lip liner. I have purchased 5 over the years. It is so deep that it changes the shades put on top and makes them have more depth and body. 555 looks like a nice evening shade or fall/winter shade. Thank you so much for providing us with the swatches from this line, Christine. Lovely job as usual.
555 is a gorgeous, rich dark shade that I love.
555 looks so good on you. I don’t think I could pull it off but I love it on you. I enjoy seeing all the different lip stick shades.
Whoa! I want #74!
Lovely, I wish 555 was a bit better though.
