Fenty Beauty Lady Lagoon, Sea About It, Purp-a-Trader, Purple Stuff Flypencil Eyeliners Reviews & Swatches

Lady Lagoon
Fenty Beauty Lady Lagoon Flypencil Longwear Eyeliner ($22.00 for 0.01 oz.) is a bright, medium blue with cool undertones and a matte finish. It had opaque pigmentation in a single, fluid stroke that applied evenly and smoothly across my lash line without tugging. The consistency was creamy without being overly emollient, so it didn’t slide around (though it doesn’t smudge easily, even when working quickly, as it dried down quickly). It wore well for seven and a half hours on my waterline and nine hours on my lower lash line.

Formula Overview
$22.00/0.01 oz. - $2200.00 Per Ounce
The formula is supposed to have "smudge-resistant, water-resistant longwear" with a "creamy" consistency and "hyper-pigmented" coverage. They lasted between four and eight hours on my lower waterline and eight to nine hours with minimal fading/movement on my lower lash line for the most part; they did not seem to be marketed for waterline usage, so longevity ratings are based on lasting power on my lower lash line. I found that the shimmer shades moved the least over time, while they were the ones that adhered least to my waterline compared to the matte shades.
The texture was smooth, creamy, and comfortable to work with on my waterline as well as my lower lash line as it the pencils did not tug. There's not a lot of time for smudging, so you'll want to work quickly and one eye at a time if that's something you'd like to do with the liner.
The pigmentation varied from shade to shade with most shades having somewhere between medium (but buildable) to opaque coverage. There were a few shades that applied best with short, overlapping strokes to get the most even, intense coverage. The creamier texture coupled with the liner's quick drydown meant that a second layer was best applied after the first layer dried down; some of the creamier shades (like Sea About It) layered poorly otherwise.
Warning: once twisted up, the pencil doesn't twist back into the holder, so make sure you don't twist more product than necessary out. I also found that some of the creamier shades could break when applied--I had this occur on the following shades during swatching: Bachelor Pad, In Big Truffle, and Sea About It and had it occur during application (to my lower lash line) with She a Problem.

Sea About It
Fenty Beauty Sea About It Flypencil Longwear Eyeliner ($22.00 for 0.01 oz.) is a vivid, cobalt blue with strong, cool undertones and a matte finish. It had semi-opaque pigmentation that was best applied in short, overlapping strokes as layering in longer strokes seemed more prone to moving the product around unevenly. The texture felt lightly creamy, smooth, and was comfortable to apply to my waterline as well as my lash line. This shade stayed on well for seven hours on my waterline and nine hours on my lash line.

Purp-a-trader
Fenty Beauty Purp-a-trader Flypencil Longwear Eyeliner ($22.00 for 0.01 oz.) is a deep plum with subtle, warm undertones and a matte finish. The texture felt smoother and glided on more readily than it might appear in the swatch as it dried down to a really flat, matte finish. It was very difficult to smudge out this shade, and it could have benefited from smudging as that would have helped it look a bit more even. It had semi-opaque coverage that was buildable but always looked a bit uneven (though that will be less visible with thinner lines). It lasted well for seven and a half hours on my waterline and nine hours on my lash line.

Purple Stuff
Fenty Beauty Purple Stuff Flypencil Longwear Eyeliner ($22.00 for 0.01 oz.) is a medium-dark plum with subtle, warm undertones and a pearly sheen. It had semi-opaque pigmentation in a single layer, which was buildable to full coverage–and it built up well whether layered initially or applied in short strokes so it wasn’t fussy. The pencil was smooth, creamy without being too waxy or overly emollient, and comfortable to work with. It wore nicely for seven hours on my waterline and nine hours on my lower lash line.

The First two, the blues, are wonderful!
I am definitely getting Purple Stuff! At least for now. There is nothing like it in my stash, I don’t think?
Lady Lagoon for summertime, though. ?
Purple Stuff is quite a lovely plum shade – not many good ones around, so this is a bonus. I am not a fan of the blue shades – perhaps too vivid for me or it could be the matte finishes.
I adore Purple Stuff, it would look gorgeous with UD Backfire and lots of other shadows I use and love. I’m surprised there weren’t any close dupes.
Love “Purple Stuff”, so rich looking .
I had high hopes for the Purp-a-trader Flypencil. The color is great, but it doesn’t apply evenly (with a consistent depth of color) on my eyelids. I am old, and my skin is not as taut as it used to be. It probably would be fine on a younger person, but the consistency of this eyeliner is not good for someone in their late 50s or 60s.
Thanks, Patricia. While I’d argue (ferociously) that you’re hardly old, I deeply appreciate your insight on this one. The color is exactly what I’m looking for, but a smooth application is necessary for me and my 53-year-old eyelids. 🙂
Lady Lagoon and Purple Stuff are tempting me!
How good is this brand/line of pencil in making a thinner line on the lid? I find that many pencils make lines too thick. Is this brand/line as good as UD in getting a thinner line? Or is it more like the thicker ones (almost like a crayon) in not achieving a thin line?
The point is a little larger and more rounded than the average twist-up pencil but definitely nowhere near as large as a crayon. If you want something very fine, then Marc Jacobs Fineliners are pretty much the skinniest liners I’ve seen!
Thanks Christine.
Thanks for the tip, Christine. I’ll check those out!
