Dose of Colors Desi x Katy Friendcation Eyeshadow Palette Review & Swatches
Friendcation
Dose of Colors Friendcation 10-Pan Eyeshadow Palette ($55.00 for 0.70 oz.) is a new, limited edition palette that includes 10 shades across an assortment of mattes and sparkling, metallic hues. Per the brand, the matte shades are “rich with pgiment and blend like a dream” while the shimmer shades have a “glistening finish” that is best applied “with a finger” if one wants “intense color payoff” or used with “your preferred brush” if one wants “softer coverage.” The mattes were quite pigmented and blendable, which made them easy to use overall. The shimmery shades were fairly pigmented when applied and used with a dry brush, but applying with fingertips definitely intensified the coverage noticeably, though I felt that I could get a similar intensity by using a dampened brush as well. The latter is a good way to apply the sparkly shades if you’re using an adhesive spray/mixing medium, as that will help to lock on the sparkles better than the formula does on its own. There was slight to light fallout depending on the shade but definitely not so severe that it looked amiss from a normal viewing distance.

Basic
Basic is a soft peach with warm undertones and a matte finish. It had good pigmentation with a soft, velvety texture that was a smidgen powdery but very blendable and easy to work with on my skin. It lasted well for seven and a half hours on me before fading noticeably.

Cheens
Cheens is a medium brown with subtle, warm undertones and a matte finish. The color payoff was opaque in one layer, while the texture was soft, velvety, and blendable without being too soft in the pan that it became powdery or prone to fallout. It wore well for eight hours on me before I noticed any fading.

Dirty Money
Dirty Money is a deep, greenish-gold with warm, olive undertones and flecks of gold sparkle over a pearl finish. It had opaque pigmentation applied with a dry brush, though a fingertip definitely required less product to get the same level of visible coverage on my lid and seemed to do a beter job of transferring more of the sparkle/shimmer to the lid. The texture was smooth, lightly creamy, and on the denser side but not too thick that it was difficult to pick up with a brush. It stayed on well for eight and a half hours on me with a touch of fallout.

A Moment
A Moment is a deep, navy blue with strong, cool undertones and flecks of lighter blue sparkle over a more metallic sheen. It was cool-toned enough that it seemed to have a purplish base at times, particularly when paired with cooler-toned shades. The texture was lightly creamy, denser and thicker without going too far and becoming difficult to work with or prone to emphasizing lid texture. It had good pigmentation but did require application with a fingertip (as mentioned by the brand for “intense color payoff”) for full coverage in one go (or else use a dampened brush, which worked well the shimmers in the palette). It wore well for eight hours on me and had just a touch of fallout over time.

Try Me
Try Me is a medium-dark, reddish copper with warm undertones and a metallic sheen. The consistency was smooth, lightly creamy, and more emollient–felt like it had more silicone in it–and did apply most opaque when I used a fingertip or a dampened brush to apply (the former was as the brand stated for “intense” coverage). The upside was that using a dry brush was workable, as it yielded semi-opaque, buildable pigmentation but required more pressing and gentle pushing onto the lid due to the slip. It lasted well for eight and a half hours on me before fading a bit.

Just a Kiss
Just a Kiss gives an effect of a sparkling, golden peach sheen on the skin and seemed to have a transparent base. This shade was designed with a “sheer base” and to be used as a layering shade or to brighten/illuminate, which was accurate–it was sheer and did not add any underlying color to the skin, just lots of sparkle. It could be built up with a dampened brush or fingertip to get more medium coverage and intense sparkle as well. The eyeshadow applied fairly well to bare skin without much fallout during application, but there was some fallout over the eight hours it stayed on well for.

Girl Bye
Girl Bye is a muted, medium-dark reddish plum with warm undertones and a matte finish. It had good color coverage that was buildable to full coverage with less than half of a layer on top. The consistency was soft, slightly dusty in the pan, but it was blendable and did not sheer out too readily when worn over bare skin. It wore well for eight hours on me before fading slightly.

Churro
Churro is a light-medium brown with warm, yellow undertones and a matte finish. The pigmentation was opaque in a single layer, while the eyeshadow had a soft, smooth consistency that wasn’t too thin nor was it powdery/dusty in the pan. Game Over
Game Over is a deep black with neutral-to-cool undertones and silver and blue sparkle. It had good color payoff in a single layer, but it needed a second layer or to be applied using fingertips to get to full coverage, which was as the brand marketed for the shimmer shades. The consistency was denser, slightly stiffer compared to the other shades, but I didn’t have any issues using it, even when I tried it in the crease more blended out. It wore well for eight and a half hours with just a touch of fallout.

Very Pretty, but not worth $55.
Have to agree. It’s nice but WAY to much $$ for this palette. But then I haven’t spent anything close to that price for the two I do own, lol which btw, work just as well. Don’t know if this is excluded from Ulta’s 20% coupon but if not, $44 is still too much.
Love the dupe recommendations. Think I’ll go that route with the few I can see myself wearing…
I had already planned on skipping this palette, but seeing that I can dupe 80% of this palette, which includes the blue which I didn’t think I had a dupe for, makes this an even easier skip for me. I really appreciate the vanity & dupe check portion of this website.
I actually like this one more than last year’s quad that Desi & Katy did, because mattes are included here. A few days ago, I used that grayish-green shade from The Girls quad for the first time in ages. Remembered how much I love that one as soon as I had it back on my lid again!
I had problems with the original quad itching my eyes, it was so beautiful though. JKissa on youtube had the same problem but said this new collab did not bother her. I think I may pick this palette up during an Ulta sale at 20% off, $55 is just so steep. I swatched it in store and the glitter shadows are gorgeous in person.
I have heard a few people say the same thing, Emily – that they had irritation with the first one but have been fine with the new one. (I didn’t have issues with either.)
I’m glad to see that the items I purchased (this palette and the Aftermath lipstick) scored well!
This is a sensational palette of beautiful shades for autumn. Gorgeous jewel tones, with lovely shades to complement them. It’s the kind of palette that you would find yourself using all year round.
Stunning eye look Christine.
Thank you, Genevieve!
If I had fewer eyeshadows already and actually wore them often, I would consider this palette. But in actuality, I have no use for glittery black or even more neutrals, although I do love A Moment and the shade name “Churro”!
This is a must-have for me. I love the mix of mattes and glitters and I feel I’ll be able to use it all year round due to the colour variation. Just wish it was a little cheaper, but by the time I can actually afford it, it might have come down in price (hopefully!)
This rated much better than I thought it would, going by the swatches. Not unique enough for me to buy. If Dirty Money were a single, though, I’d buy it in a heartbeat.
Beautiful look, but “A Moment” is the only one I want here. It’s such a splendid looking midnight blue! Sad about it too as I don’t think it’ll be “dupable”, but then who knows.
I need another palette like I need a hole in the head. But, it is pretty, even if 10-20 dollars too expensive.
curious to know how this compares to the CT Icon Palette
