Dior Precious Embroidery (776) 5 Couleurs Eyeshadow Palette

Dior Precious Embroidery (776) 5 Couleurs Eyeshadow Palette ($63.00 for 0.12 oz.) is a new, limited edition five-pan eyeshadow palette that features a mauve, pinky-white, golden beige, deep brown, and blackened plum. The formula feels like last year’s holiday eyeshadow formula, which was a little easier to use and better performing than some of Dior’s other eyeshadow palettes in recent times. It is described as being “ultra-pigmented” with ” no powdery effect.” Overall, the palette had good pigmentation with a slightly drier, lightly dusty consistency that was blendable but more prone to sheering out when working with it on the lid. They would perform better with a primer, which would give them a better base to adhere to as well as extend the wear.

Precious Embroidery #1 is a muted, medium-dark mauve with warmer undertones and a frosted finish. The texture was drier, so it sheered out a bit when applied to bare skin, despite having good color payoff initially. This shade ended up appearing warmer on me as a result, but I think it would look more neutral on those with cooler undertones. It wore well for seven hours before fading on me. ColourPop Mind Tricks (LE, $4.50) is more shimmery (95% similar). Clarins Rosewood #3 (PiP, ) is lighter (90% similar). Hourglass Exposure #5 (PiP, ) is less shimmery, darker (90% similar). Sephora Free Hug (DC, $10.00) is less shimmery, warmer (85% similar). Tom Ford Beauty Cool (Winter 2016) Eyeshadow #3 (LE, ) is warmer (85% similar). Tarte Poker Face (LE, $14.00) is warmer (90% similar). Sydney Grace Smolder (LE, $6.25) is more shimmery, darker, warmer (80% similar). Sydney Grace Phosphenes (P, $6.25) is more shimmery, darker, warmer (80% similar). Cle de Peau Silver Eclipse #2 (PiP, ) is less shimmery, darker, warmer (80% similar). Too Faced Better Together (LE, $16.00) is darker, warmer (80% similar). See comparison swatches / view dupes side-by-side.

Precious Embroidery #2 is a bright white with cooler, bluish frosted shimmer. It appeared warmer in the pan, but it had a stronger, cooler sheen to it that gave it an overall, cooler appearance. The consistency was soft, just a touch dusty but smooth, easy to blend out, and did not sheer out immediately like the mauve shade did. This shade wore well for seven and a half hours. Dior Smoky Sequins #2 (LE, ) is warmer (95% similar). Dior Blue Garden #2 (LE, ) is brighter (95% similar). Make Up For Ever ME122 Snow (P, $17.00) is warmer (95% similar). Precious Embroidery #3 is a slightly muted, medium gold with warm, orange undertones and a frosted, almost metallic, finish. It had nice pigmentation with a soft, smooth, and blendable consistency that wasn’t too firm ot too soft in the pan. The color applied well and wore for seven and a half hours before fading. Chanel Convoitise (90) (LE, $32.00) is less shimmery, darker (95% similar). Tarte Vivacious (LE, ) is brighter (95% similar). LORAC Sand (LE, $19.00) is lighter (95% similar). See comparison swatches / view dupes side-by-side.

Precious Embroidery #4 is a muted, dark brown with warm undertones and a soft, pearly shimmer. It had good color payoff, though it was not as intense or as rich in practice as it appeared in the pan. The texture was soft, smooth, and just a touch dry and dusty. I found it easy to blend and diffuse the color in the crease, but it had a tendency to sheer out as soon as I worked with it, so I had to build it up to retain depth. It lasted for seven hours before fading. Lancome Audacious (PiP, $19.00)(100% similar). Dior Exuberante #5 (LE, ) is more shimmery (95% similar). Dior Parisian Sky #5 (LE, ) is darker (95% similar). Top 20 dupes listed, see the rest. See comparison swatches / view dupes side-by-side.

Precious Embroidery #5 is a blackened plum with subtle, warmer undertones and a frosted sheen. The pigmentation was mostly opaque, while the texture was soft, lightly dusty, but it blended out fairly well. The color did not apply as well to bare skin, so it would be best used with a primer or else it sheered out and looked a somewhat patchy. Too Faced Amorous (PiP, ) is less shimmery, lighter (95% similar). Dior Feel #5 (PiP, ) is less shimmery, lighter, warmer (90% similar). ColourPop Straight Trippin' (LE, $6.00) is brighter, cooler (90% similar). Dior Eclectic #5 (LE, ) is less shimmery, lighter (90% similar). NARS Subra (P, $29.00) is lighter, brighter (90% similar). The presentation of their quints is beautiful. I’m a sucker for embossed and patterned powders even though I know it makes absolutely no difference to how the products perform.

Wow, it looks much better than I anticipated! The swatches are nice and smooth, which is never a guarantee with Dior eyeshadows. At first glance the palette also looked very similar to one from the Holiday collection 2 years ago, but the shades are actually quite different. Might need this!

Adele Avatar

I’d buy this in a second if it had the texture of the new Dior single shadows… I always fall for these kinds of colors.

(I may still, who knows!)

Wow, another B+ for Dior! Those remedial make up formulation classes you held worked Christine. Kidding aside, it is beautiful, and I love the sequin motif stamped on the shadows.

(Sigh) The embossing is so pretty, and I like #1, but one of the things that draws me to Dior is their unusual color combos, but this combo is pretty easily duped. But it makes for a pretty smoky eye for fall/winter. I think this would only be worth it if you use these shades a lot and like to have it all in one kit.

Yes, what a look, but the mauve that Katherine likes is rather overpowered by the warmer shades. But no doubt this is amongst the most delightful embossing ever. This deserves an ‘atta boy, Dior, but we’re still not convinced…’

The pigmentation and formula of these quints gets raves from even the most discerning reviewers and I like what I’ve been able to try too but that doesn’t make up for the fact that those colors are very dupable neutrals. Usually, complexities would be visible under this kind of bright lighting that are normally subdued under natural/artificial lighting but I’m not really seeing much complexity here. considering that the traditional customer base for these palettes are older ladies who are in the habit of buying only HE out of habit/preference (and who probably have a set way of doing things and wouldn’t be interested in too “out there” glam looks) I guess it makes sense to create “safe” palettes like this.

Shamim de Varax Avatar

one of the better performing dior eyeshadow palette but still not as great as other brands, but the sequins embossing is SO PRETTY.

For some reason that I don’t really understand, Dior shadows always work really well for me, regardless of how bad they review. I love the sequin embossing and imagine many will buy this for that reason alone. I do like small palettes like this as long as there is a transition shade and a brow bone highlight. I take a lot of one night trips and these are perfect to take along. Having said that, I am not sure that I don’t have a million dupes for all of these colors so it is just a matter of my resisting the embossing, LOL.

#5 is beautiful and I think the exact match I’m looking for in a dupe for CdP’s discontinued single in 106. Too bad you can’t buy it as a single. The Nars dupe isn’t quite there for me though, so the search continues.

Allison Avatar

This palette looks so beautiful! I almost find that my eye is drawn more into the detailing than into the colours themselves. The embroidery detail makes the palette look more delicate and luxurious.

Diane Avatar

I think this will be the one eye palette that I’ll splurge on this winter, because I know every color in there will suit me (which is rare). I know the palette is pretty dupable, but to buy each color separately might cost more. I also LOVE the embossing!! I’m a sucker for stuff like that!
