ColourPop Holiday 2016 Ultra Satin & Ultra Matte Liquid Lipsticks Reviews, Photos, Swatches
Bijou
ColourPop Bijou Ultra Satin Liquid Lipstick ($6.00 for 0.11 fl. oz.) is a medium-dark purple with warm undertones and a satin finish. It had great pigmentation that covered the lips evenly and easily as the consistency wasn’t too thick or too thin and spread across the lips nicely. I did notice that there was a bit of color that settled into my deeper lip line, but it wasn’t noticeable from a normal viewing distance. This shade lasted for eight hours and was just a touch drying after six hours of wear.

It is supposed to be a “lightweight, bold lipstick with a satin finish”liquid lipstick that is “extra intense colour saturation” and “long-wearing,” but the brand is quick to note that it is “not completely kiss proof.” The consistency is very light to lightweight with a thin to mousse-like consistency–they feel a little heavier going on than the Ultra Matte formula, but they don’t feel heavy on. They dry down somewhat, but it isn’t a full, flat dry down like matte liquid lipsticks, and when you press your lips together, there is moderate tackiness there, but I didn’t notice any lifting or separating of color by doing so.
They have been extremely long-wearing and comfortable to wear for the most part–it’s after ten hours or so that I notice my lips feeling a little dry–but six hours into wear and the colors have looked good post-meals/post-drinking. I think if you like the idea of longer-wearing, mostly matte lip color but find most liquid lipsticks too drying or too flat while not needing an ultra-hydrating formula, you might like these.

Embellish
ColourPop Embellish Ultra Matte Liquid Lipstick ($6.00 for 0.11 fl. oz.) is a deep brown with neutrla undertones and a matte finish. It had semi-opaque pigmentation, which was in part the result of having a thinner, more watery consistency that was prone to streaking. I think it could have sustained a second layer to intensify and even out the color, as it didn’t dry down to the point where it was thick or “cracked.” The color lasted for six hours, was drying, and wore down more heavily around the center of the mouth after four hours of wear.

Formula Overview
$6.50/0.11 oz. - $59.09 Per Ounce
It is a long-wearing, pigmented lipstick that starts off glossy and dries down quickly to that super flat matte finish. They have minimal transfer with some of the lighter shades having almost none for the first few hours of wear, but any time you’ve had a meal, they lose that transfer-resistant quality to a noticeable degree. They tend to wear anywhere from six to ten hours with darker shades maintaining better color coverage and wear over a longer period of time.
Some shades get a little drying about two-thirds to three-fourths through the wear, while a few shades have been fairly non-drying even many hours into wear. They fade away evenly with most color loss occurring from the center of the lips if eating a more oil-based meal but the majority of color survives a meal.
Reapplication has been hit or miss and tends to depend on how well it wore away and how easily the shade applies normally, but reapplication tends to emphasize the lip’s natural texture significantly compared to initial application and gives lips a very wrinkled, dried-up look. I’ve layered gloss on top of some shades with moderate success, though it will obviously lose the matte finish and will transfer and I’ll get tiny flakes where the matte lip color has lifted by mixing with gloss but has been pretty minimal. The formula had no discernible taste or scent.

Knotty
ColourPop Knotty Ultra Matte Liquid Lipstick ($6.00 for 0.11 fl. oz.) is a deep peach with warm undertones and a flat, matte finish. It was incredibly rich in pigment, but the drydown was terrible; it was thin to the point where it looked “cracked” when I smiled, emphasized every line on my lips, and just looked like my lips lacked moisture. I’m not sure why some of ColourPop’s Ultra Mattes dry down like this–almost chalk-like, clingy, and ver dry–while others have a smooth, matte finish that while drying after hours of wear doesn’t look shriveled from the get-go. It lasted for five hours but had flaked away unevenly from the center of the mouth after two and a a half hours.

Wild Nothing
ColourPop Wild Nothing Ultra Matte Liquid Lipstick ($6.00 for 0.11 fl. oz.) is a deep plum with warm undertones and a mostly matte finish. I feel like the holiday shades are proof positive of just how wildly inconsistent this formula is, because this shade took over an hour to fully dry down, whereas the others were dry in a minute or so. The texture of this shade was also thicker, smoother, which resulted in much more pigmentation in less product (one stroke over-applied–I’d use a lip brush with this shade going forward).
The longer drydown time made it more finicky to keep in place, because it remained lightly tacky and color would lift off in places if I accidentally pressed my lips together prior. At least the coverage was even, and the color lasted for eight hours (though drying).

Bijou is beautiful! I love the color of Embellish — such a lovely deep, neutral brown. It’s too bad about the performance, but the ultra-matte finish is not for me, anyway. It’s interesting how inconsistent this formula can be!
I know! Embellish is sooo dark but still not black – wish it was better!
My thoughts exactly Fran!
*Bijou is stunning, SO glad it’s an Ultra Satin not Ultra Matte.
*Yikes, Knotty looks like pure torture to wear, looks like it’s sucking all moisture out of lips.
*And what happened to Wild Nothing? It’s pretty color on the lips, but that swatch is SO dry looking
Knotty is sooo unflattering on the lips (in terms of texture)!
I liked wild nothing, but I have colourpop tulle, AND Stingraye with is a dupe for tulle! So I guess I’m more than good on this colour!
It’s a nice color family!
I’ve been eyeing Bijou! So glad it’s not so dupable and it look great on you. I’ve been looking at Wild Nothing as well, but I have other colors like it so it’s not a justifiable purchase for me. Embellish sounds like how LAX was for me.
Bijou is a nice one! 🙂
Bijou is the only one that I intend on getting (as if I really need one more purple lipstick, haha!).
As for Embellish and Knotty; those 2 look truly shrink-wrap dry as heck! And look tortuous to even wear for an hour, too.
I do love how Wild Nothing looks nothing like those other 2 disastrous Ultra Mattes! You nailed it. Their Ultra Mattes are SO inconsistent in formula!
An inconsistent formula is so tough to deal with, because you really have no idea what you’re going to get 🙁
Shame about the inconsistency of the formula because there are some great colours there. I really like the purple of Bijou, so wearable. And Wild Nothing is a great nude for fair skin, I know it’s a plum colour but it’d pull warmer on me lol.
It is! I don’t know why it varies so much!
I’m loving Bijou. It’s going on my wishlist.
It’s a stunner!
Snap! I wore Bijou out today, love it! I have Wink as well, but have yet to try that on and while I like the colour of Wild Nothing, it just looks too dry. I did get Perky, expecting it to be lighter and pinker and it’s not quite as bad, but still not as comfy as the Ultra Satins..
I don’t have Wink! I hope to pick it up next time I place an order with CP.
Wild Nothing is a beautiful shade for fall/winter but with an hour to dry down and a drying formula, I don’t think I would enjoy it too much…
Lipsticks aside, your smile in these photos is even brighter and lovelier than usual! ?
I’m a fan of Bijoux
Bijou is really pretty. I’ll have to go through all the dupes, I think I should have some, but none of the closest are in my possession.
Wild Nothing is a lovely one as well. I’m not sure I can wear anything matte at the moment, my lips are super weird right now. They feel dry and uncomfortable, and I keep pressing and rubbing them toghether. Stupid habit. I only use moisturising glosses right now.
Wild Nothing looks beautiful! Christine, compared to the Ultra Matte Lippies in the silver packaging – would you say there is any difference in formulation? Or are they just as drying for the most part?
Hi Ashley,
It just depends from shade to shade – I find the formula is inconsistent – it doesn’t matter the packaging they are in.
