MAC Light English Red Lipglass

MAC Light English Red Lipglass
MAC Light English Red Lipglass

MAC Light English Red Lipglass ($30.00 for 0.16 fl. oz.) is described as a “sheer beige nude.” It’s a light-medium pink with subtle, cool undertones and fine white shimmer. MAC Bijou (LE, $15.00) is lighter. MAC Lots of Laughs (LE, $15.00) is lighter. NARS Belize (P, $26.00) is warmer, less shimmery. MAC Next Fad (P, $19.50) is cooler-toned. Chanel Insolence (P, $32.00) is less shimmery. Bobbi Brown Pink Sorbet (P, $24.00) is similar. See comparison swatches / view dupes.

It had semi-opaque color coverage (definitely not sheer) that applied surprisingly evenly. There was some minor settling of the color into lip lines, but it wasn’t noticeable from a normal viewing distance. The texture was thin, light-medium in weight, lightly tacky, and fairly comfortable to wear. It wore well for three and a half hours, and it was neither drying nor hydrating. Given that the formula does feel much like regular Lipglass, this is double the price with the same amount of product in the tube. I was really disappointed with the way the tube felt in my hands, though; it’s so light that it feels cheap and just doesn’t have any of the hallmarks of high-end, designer packaging. MAC’s regular Lipglass feels better to me, as far as packaging goes.

Bite Beauty Aubergine, Cognac, Truffle Matte Creme Lip Crayon Photos & Swatches

Bite Beauty Aubergine Matte Creme Lip Crayon
Bite Beauty Aubergine Matte Creme Lip Crayon

Bite Beauty Aubergine Matte Creme Lip Crayon ($24.00 for 0.05 oz.) is described as an “eggplant.” It’s a medium-dark, slightly muted, berry with cool undertones and a luminous sheen. It’s definitely not the matte finish you might expect–and it gives off a higher sheen than even a satin, though the shine does wear down after an hour or two of wear. It had mostly opaque pigmentation that goes on evenly and smoothly, as the consistency is creamy enough not to drag, but it doesn’t slide around once applied. This shade wore well for six hours and was moderately hydrating. Marc Jacobs Beauty Headliner (608) (P, $28.00) is lighter. Bite Beauty Crimson (LE, $28.00) is brighter, lighter. Inglot #293 Lipstick Cream (P, $12.00) is glossier. Estee Lauder Insolent Plum (P, $30.00) is glossier. YSL Exquisite Plum (22) (P, $34.00) is sheerer. Revlon Plum Velour (P, $7.99) is sheerer, lighter. Marc Jacobs Beauty Seduce Me (128) (P, $30.00) is lighter. Urban Decay Venom (P, $22.00) is darker. MAC Rebel (P, $16.00) is cooler-toned. See comparison swatches / view dupes.

Bite Beauty Cognac Matte Creme Lip Crayon ($24.00 for 0.05 oz.) is described as a “dark brown.” It’s a medium-dark, reddish-brown with warm undertones and a glossy shine. It was one of the more emollient shades in the range–it had more slip, so it has a thicker, creamier feel on the lips. Luckily, the color still went on evenly, and the wear came in at five hours. The formula was comfortable to wear and hydrating over time. NARS Deborah (P, $32.00) is a touch lighter. MAC Carnal Instinct (LE, $16.00) is more metallic. MAC Legendary (LE, $16.00) is more matte. See comparison swatches / view dupes.

Bite Beauty Truffle Matte Creme Lip Crayon ($24.00 for 0.05 oz.) is described as a “deep brown.” It’s a deepened, blackened red with cool undertones and a glossy shine. This was the worst-performing shade in the range, because it was too slippery in texture. The color didn’t go on evenly, and it was prone to pulling into lip lines. It is better blotted down and worn more as a stain, which helps to mitigate some of the unevenness. The color lasted for five hours and left behind a stain. Tom Ford Beauty Black Dahlia (10) (LE, $50.00) is more matte. NARS Liv (P, $32.00) is purpler. Kat Von D Motorhead (P, $21.00) is more matte. Maybelline Espresso Exposed (955) (P, $7.49) is redder. MAC Talk That Talk (LE, $16.00) is more matte. Obsessive Compulsive Cosmetics Black Metal Dahlia (P, $18.00) is more shimmery. Urban Decay Shame (P, $22.00) is redder. MAC Tribalist (LE, $16.00) is more muted. MAC Sin (P, $16.00) is more matte. See comparison swatches / view dupes.

Bite Beauty Amaretto Matte Creme Lip Crayon
Bite Beauty Amaretto Matte Creme Lip Crayon

Bite Beauty Amaretto Matte Creme Lip Crayon ($24.00 for 0.05 oz.) is described as a “peachy nude.” It’s a muted, light-medium peach with slight beige coloring and a satin finish. Tom Ford Beauty First Time (09) (LE, $50.00) is pinker. NARS Raquel (P, $32.00) is lighter, glossier. Givenchy Beige Caraco (107) (P, $36.00) is warmer. Bite Beauty Glace Matte Creme Lip Crayon ($24.00 for 0.05 oz.) is described as a “dusty mauve.” It’s a muted, medium rose with warm undertones and a satin finish. It had rich color payoff that covered the lips evenly. This shade stayed on well for five hours and was lightly hydrating. Tom Ford Beauty Negligee (LE, $50.00) is more matte, darker. Guerlain Air Kiss (304) (P, $37.00) is more shimmery, darker. Buxom Dolly (LE, $21.00) is more shimmery, cooler-toned. Givenchy Nude Guipure (106) (P, $36.00) is lighter. MAC Mystical (LE, $16.00) is pinker. Estee Lauder Irresistible (P, $30.00) is darker. Estee Lauder Dynamic (P, $30.00) is brighter. Guerlain Garance (P, $51.00) is more shimmery, warmer. See comparison swatches / view dupes.

Bite Beauty Leche Matte Creme Lip Crayon ($24.00 for 0.05 oz.) is described as a “dusty pale pink.” It’s a peachy-pink with warm undertones and a semi-matte finish. It had full color payoff that went on fairly evenly and smoothly. This shade wore well for four and a half hours and was lightly hydrating over time. Bite Beauty Amaretto (P, $24.00) is less pink. Tom Ford Beauty First Time (09) (LE, $50.00) is darker, pinker. NARS Raquel (P, $32.00) is glossier, lighter. Revlon Jungle Peach (LE, $7.99) is glossier. Givenchy Beige Plume (102) (P, $36.00) is pinker. MAC Sweet & Sour (P, $16.00) is lighter, more matte. See comparison swatches / view dupes.

Estee Lauder Reckless (480) Pure Color Envy Sculpting Lipstick

Estee Lauder Reckless (480) Pure Color Envy Sculpting Lipstick
Estee Lauder Reckless (480) Pure Color Envy Sculpting Lipstick

Estee Lauder Reckless (480) Pure Color Envy Sculpting Lipstick ($30.00 for 0.12 oz.) is a slightly muted, pink-berry with cool undertones and a soft, luminous sheen. Givenchy Framboise Velours (315) (LE, $36.00) is redder. Chanel Rayonnante (145) (P, $34.00) is sheerer. Chanel L’Amoureuse (47) (P, $34.00) is more matte. Too Faced So Berry Sexy (P, $22.00) is similar. See comparison swatches / view dupes.

This is one of the more recently added shades to the range (and the last one that I have for now). It had rich, opaque color coverage that went only smoothly and evenly. The consistency is lightly creamy but not too slippery, so it adheres comfortably to the lips and yields longer wear (six hours on me). The formula is vanilla-scented but taste-free. This particular shade was hydrating over time. I really loved this shade, and I think it’s a great addition to the range–the muted quality to the color makes it more interesting to me.

Tarte Sweet Indulgences Holiday Gift Set

Tarte Sweet Indulgences Holiday Gift Set
Tarte Sweet Indulgences Holiday Gift Set

Tarte Sweet Indulgences Holiday Gift Set ($59.97 for 2.60 oz.) is a three-piece set, where there are three, slim square boxes that are designed to be given as gifts. You can keep them all for yourself, break the set up, or gift the entire thing. One box contains two blushes and three lip colors, another with three eyeliners and two mascaras, and a third with two eyeshadow palettes (eight shades in each). Overall, I think the Lip Cremes and the Eyeshadows are the stars, but the rest leaves me unimpressed: one blush was a complete miss (worst product in the set), while the three eyeliners were rougher, drier formula. Some of the eyeshadows are very nice, others are sheerer and don’t perform as well. I noticed the eyeshadow formula seemed thinner in this palette across the board, which made a lot of shades seem less powdery, but some were under-pigmented. There’s plenty of “value” to the set, but I think it just depends on what you wanted most.

Pampered is a pink-coral with warm undertones and a semi-matte finish. It looks more matte applied (doesn’t really get luminous or satiny when blended out), and the texture was smooth but not as soft as other shades in the range have been. The color payoff was good, while the blush itself lasted for nine hours (three shy of the 12-hour claim, though). See comparison swatches / view dupes side-by-side.

Savored is a warm, rosy plum with a satiny sheen. The texture was incredibly stiff–just hard to get any color out of it during application–and I found it harder to blend on the skin. I scraped off the first few layers, and it was slightly improved but still dismal. It seemed to wear around seven hours or so, but it was so sheer, it was hard to tell. See comparison swatches / view dupes side-by-side.

Indulging is a muted, fuchsia pink with a cream finish. It had semi-sheer color coverage with a high-shine finish. The color deposited somewhat unevenly with minor settling into lip lines. It was lightly tacky and lasted for three hours on me. See comparison swatches / view dupes side-by-side.

Rare is a warm rose pink with a soft, frosted sheen. It had mostly opaque color coverage, lasted for four hours, and was lightly hydrating. It was mint-scented, but I didn’t notice much of a tingle beyond the very initial moment. See comparison swatches / view dupes side-by-side.

Wonder is a brightened, medium-dark raspberry pink with a soft shine. It had mostly opaque pigmentation that went on evenly and smoothly. The color wore well for four and a half hours. See comparison swatches / view dupes side-by-side.

Pinky Promise is a muted, medium rosy brown with subtle, warm undertones and a satin finish. It had nice color payoff with a soft, silky texture. See comparison swatches / view dupes side-by-side.

Taupe of the World is a warm-toned, medium-dark taupe brown with a semi-matte finish. The texture was somewhat powdery, so it wasn’t fully opaque. See comparison swatches / view dupes side-by-side.

You Look Mauveless is a medium-dark plum with soft, warm undertones and a matte finish. It was mostly opaque and had a soft, silky consistency. See comparison swatches / view dupes side-by-side.

Just Malt Away is a light, yellowed beige with warm undertones and a matte finish. The powder was soft, blendable, and silky, while it yielded full color coverage. See comparison swatches / view dupes side-by-side.

Pampered Pink is a light-medium, warm pink with a soft, frosted finish. It had semi-opaque color payoff with a slightly powdery consistency. See comparison swatches / view dupes side-by-side.

Dare to Be Gold is a warm, coppery bronze with a metallic sheen. It wasn’t fully pigmented, and the texture felt thinner and drier, though not too difficult to work with on the eye. See comparison swatches / view dupes side-by-side.

Show Plum Love is a rich, plummy purple with warm undertones and a pearly sheen. It had fantastic color payoff with a soft, blendable consistency. See comparison swatches / view dupes side-by-side.

Wind Down Brown is a dark, neutral brown with a matte finish. It had decent pigmentation, but it didn’t adhere as well to the skin, so a primer would help with this particular shade. See comparison swatches / view dupes side-by-side.

Vanilla Candles is a light beige with subtle, warm undertones and a matte finish. It is soft, a smidgen powdery, with fairly good color payoff. See comparison swatches / view dupes side-by-side.

Coming Up Roses is a muted plum with a soft, frosted finish. The texture was on the powdery side, so the color payoff wasn’t great. See comparison swatches / view dupes side-by-side.

Hazelnut Bon Bons is a muted, medium brown with soft, warm undertones and a matte finish. It had semi-sheer pigmentation and was somewhat powdery. See comparison swatches / view dupes side-by-side.

Champagne Bubble Bath is a brightened peach with a frosted, slightly metallic, finish. It had good color payoff with a soft, smooth texture. See comparison swatches / view dupes side-by-side.

Bronze Cuff is a muted, golden brown with warm undertones and a soft, frosted finish. It had nice pigmentation and a soft, buttery texture. See comparison swatches / view dupes side-by-side.

Feeling Grey-t is a light-medium, warm taupe brown with a matte finish. It was somewhat powdery, though it still had decent pigmentation. See comparison swatches / view dupes side-by-side.

Espresso Yourself is a cool-toned taupe-gray with a matte finish. It was sheer, and the consistency was powdery. See comparison swatches / view dupes side-by-side.

Cinnamon Latte is a deepened, purpled-brown with warm undertones and a mostly matte finish. It was powdery and semi-sheer. See comparison swatches / view dupes side-by-side.

Charcoal is a dark gray with cool undertones and a frosted shimmer. It had semi-sheer color payoff in one stroke that was buildable to more opaque coverage in two to three layers. It lasted for seven hours on me, but it was painful to apply to the lash line. See comparison swatches / view dupes side-by-side.

Bronze is a warm, chocolate bronze-brown with a frosted shimmer. It had good pigmentation in a single stroke, but it just had a drier, more dragging texture that made it harder to apply. See comparison swatches / view dupes side-by-side.

Plum is a muted, medium-dark purple with a pearly sheen. It had decent color payoff in one go, but I wish the texture was less dry and easier to apply. See comparison swatches / view dupes side-by-side.
