MAC Soft Pout, To Savour, Marque, Femme-de-Luxe Ultimate Lipsticks

MAC Soft Pout Ultimate Lipstick
MAC Soft Pout Ultimate Lipstick

MAC Ultimate Lipstick ($23.00 for 0.15 oz.) will hopefully make its grand debut (finally!) on December 1st–fingers crossed! There’s not too much information on them, but the price point, name, and packaging make them seem like they should be similar to the lipsitcks Marcel Wanders collection (some of the shades in this collection were launched previously). The formula is new and permanent. From what I’ve experienced, the majority of the shades have good color payoff with lightweight, creamy textures that go on easily with a fair amount of slip but don’t slide around too much (a few are wetter). I get light hydration with most shades and four to six hour wear. They are vanilla-scented like MAC’s other lip products.

The price is noticeably higher than the standard MAC lipstick, though only a dollar more than the Mineralize Rich Lipstick formula. Worth noting, however, is that these are 50% larger than the standard MAC lipstick. The standard MAC lipstick is $160/oz., while the Ultimate lipstick is $153.33/oz. Of course, if you rarely get through half of a lipstick, then paying less will probably make you better off.

Soft Pout is described as a “sheer pink peach with white pearl.” It’s a semi-opaque, medium peach with beige and warm undertones and a luminous finish. The texture has enough slip in it that it doesn’t apply evenly, though it feels creamy and comfortable to wear. The wear time is shorter than other shades at three hours (but it doesn’t feel like it disappears!) and was lightly hydrating. Charlotte Tilbury Hepburn Honey (P, $32.00) is brighter. Givenchy Beige Caraco (107) (P, $36.00) is similar. Too Faced Melted Nude (P, $21.00) is more matte. MAC Sensual Sparks (LE, $16.00) is yellower. Givenchy Beige Mousseline (101) (P, $36.00) is lighter. Urban Decay Naked 2 (P, $22.00) is similar. NARS Biscayne Park (P, $25.00) is similar. MAC Delectable (LE, $16.00) is darker. MAC Wholesome (LE, $16.00) is similar. MAC Cozy Up (LE, $16.00) is similar. See comparison swatches / view dupes.

To Savour is described as a “light cool pink.” It’s a pale, light pink with cool undertones and a muted, almost gray-like overcast. It had semi-opaque color coverage with a creamy, emollient texture. It didn’t apply evenly and tended to look streaky applied, unfortunately. The color lasted for three and a half hours and was neither drying nor hydrating over time. MAC A Novel Romance (LE, $16.00) is brighter. MAC Dress to Impress (LE, $16.00) is lighter. MAC Ladies Who Lunch (LE, $22.00) is cooler-toned. MAC Be Fabulous (P, $22.00) is lighter. MAC Rose Lily (LE, $16.00) is brighter. NARS Stourhead (LE, $25.00) is more matte. MAC Dreaminess (P, $22.00) is very similar. See comparison swatches / view dupes.

Marque is described as a “soft light neutral pink.” It’s a muted, medium-dark rosy beige with warm undertones and light, gold shimmer. It had mostly opaque pigmentation that covered the lips evenly. It was lightly hydrating and lasted for four hours on me. Too Faced Shimmering Spice Spice Baby (LE, $22.00) is darker. Bobbi Brown Pink Nectar (P, $26.00) is less shimmery. Guerlain Gems (LE, $51.00) is warmer, more glossier. MAC Morning Rose (LE, $16.00) is pinker. Urban Decay Lovelight (P, $22.00) is sheerer. Guerlain Garance (P, $51.00) is less shimmery. Guerlain Cherry Blossom (P, $35.00) is pinker. See comparison swatches / view dupes.

Femme-de-Luxe is described as a “bright pink.” It’s a vibrant, light-medium fuchsia-pink with cool, blue undertones and a soft shine. It had semi-opaque pigmentation that went on fairly evenly. It had less sheen compared to several other shades in the range. This one lasted well for four hours on me and was lightly moisturizing. NARS Claudia (P, $32.00) is lighter, less shimmery. MAC Boutique Pink (LE, $22.00) is similar. Marc Jacobs Beauty Pop-arazzi (606) (P, $28.00) is more matte. MAC Lust Extract (LE, $17.00) is similar. Givenchy Rose Perfecto (209) (P, $36.00) is darker. Sephora Collection Cougar (P, $12.50) is less shimmery. MAC Happy-Go-Lucky (LE, $16.00) is brighter. MAC Bold Spring (P, $22.00) is more muted, darker. MAC Playtime (LE, $17.00) is more shimmery. See comparison swatches / view dupes.

MAC Audacious, Ravishingly Rich, The Scene Ultimate Lipsticks

MAC Audacious Ultimate Lipstick
MAC Audacious Ultimate Lipstick

MAC Ultimate Lipstick ($23.00 for 0.15 oz.) is a new and permanent formula with a shade range of ten (in the U.S., three additional shades available in Asia). The press release doesn’t have any real information regarding the formula, so going off of past years’ Couture offerings, it seems like it should be a hydrating, pigmented lipstick. The released was pushed back from late Semptember to an October 29th (online) and December 1st (in-store) launch, but I’ve yet to see it make its online debut (and I don’t have any updates). Let’s hope they pop up online come the 1st, but nevertheless, here are reviews for three more shades from the range.

To recap: The formula feels very similar to the formula used for the Marcel Wanders’ lipsticks (which is also where the packaging is from). A few of the shades now made permanent were launched previously, too. They’re creamy with some slip, glide on without tugging, are lightly hydrating, and tend to be fairly pigmented with average to good wear. Here’s a fun fact: only a $0.50 increase from the price in 2012 (based on Marcel Wanders)!

Audacious is described as a “warm mid-tone red.” It’s a brightened, medium red with warm undertones and a soft sheen. It had mostly opaque color payoff that went on evenly, smoothly, and wore well for five hours. It was lightly hydrating over time. The consistency was lightweight, emollient without being too slippery. NARS Carmen (P, $32.00) is lighter, warmer. NARS Rita (P, $32.00) is darker. Bite Beauty Grandifolia (LE, $28.00) is lighter. MAC Cherry Glaze (LE, $20.00) is sheerer. Revlon Provocateur (135) (P, $8.99) is lighter. Tom Ford Beauty Rouge Fatal (LE, $50.00) is darker. Marc Jacobs Beauty Showstopper (134) (P, $30.00) is warmer. NARS Future Red (LE, $26.00) is brighter. MAC Cockney (P, $16.00) is similar. Guerlain Gilda (P, $51.00) is warmer. See comparison swatches / view dupes.

Ravishingly Rich is described as a “bright mid-tone orange.” It’s a medium orange with a lighter, tangerine micro-shimmer and luminous finish. It was creamy and comfortable to wear with rich, opaque color coverage. This shade lasted well for four and a half hours and was lightly moisturizing while worn. NARS Geraldine (P, $32.00) is less shimmery. Givenchy Corail Signature (317) (P, $36.00) is lighter.Illamasqua Soaked (P, $26.00) is less shimmery, darker. Bite Beauty Clementine (LE, $24.00) is more matte. NARS Timanfaya (P, $25.00) is lighter. Milani Sweet Nectar (P, $5.49) is lighter. Maybelline Electric Orange (P, $7.49) is less shimmery. MAC Booyah (LE, $18.00) is more muted. MAC Fashion Nomad (LE, $16.00) is less shimmery. MAC Neon Orange (LE, $16.00) is brighter, lelss shimmery. MAC Morange (P, $16.00) is brighter, less shimmery. Chanel Sari d’Eau (P, $34.00) is more shimmery, sheerer. See comparison swatches / view dupes.

The Scene is described as a “deep berry.” It’s a rich, burgundy red with subtle, cool undertones and a glossy finish. It was semi-opaque with color that pulled into lip lines somewhat and looked more like a stain than a lipstick. The consistency had a lot of slip and had a tendency to feather on me, which isn’t something I experience often, so it was disappointing. The color lasted well for five hours. Inglot #293 Lipstick Cream (P, $12.00) is cooler-toned. Bite Beauty Bordeaux (P, $28.00) is cooler-toned, darker. Maybelline Espresso Exposed (955) (P, $7.49) is darker. Urban Decay Shame (P, $22.00) is darker. MAC Tribalist (LE, $16.00) is darker. Guerlain Gigolo (LE, $51.00) is cooler-toned. Buxom Menace (P, $21.00) is brighter. Burberry Bright Plum (15) (P, $30.00) is more matte, lighter. See comparison swatches / view dupes.

MAC Nasty Gal Lipsticks (Gunner, Runner, Stunner)

MAC Nasty Gal Lipsticks
MAC Nasty Gal Lipsticks

MAC Gunner Lipstick ($16.00 for 0.10 oz.) is described as a “deep purple [with a Matte finish].” It’s a lightly brightened, dark purple with cool undertones and a satin finish. It had mostly opaque color coverage, and it applied fairly well (though not perfectly, I didn’t notice the imperfections at a normal viewing distance, only close-up). The consistency was lightly creamy and didn’t tug at the lips, but the finish isn’t truly matte as a result. It wore well for six and a half hours and left a fuchsia-like stain behind. It was a little drying over time. MAC Punk Couture (LE, $16.00) is lighter, warmer. Illamasqua Kontrol (P, $24.00) is more muted. See comparison swatches / view dupes.

MAC Runner Lipstick ($16.00 for 0.10 oz.) is described as a “burgundy [with a Matte finish].” It’s a medium-dark, burgundy red with subtle, warm undertones and a satin finish. It had mostly opaque pigmentation, but it didn’t look even when applied. There was something about it that looked almost grainy. The color itself wore really long (over six hours), but it was somewhat drying towards the last half of wear. I found it particularly troublesome to apply it from the tube, as it seemed prone to skipping. Tom Ford Beauty Black Dahlia (10) (LE, $50.00) is cooler-toned. MAC Fixed on Drama (LE, $16.00) is similar. MAC Endless Drama (P, $18.00) is darker. MAC Sin (P, $16.00) is similar. See comparison swatches / view dupes.

MAC Stunner Lipstick ($16.00 for 0.10 oz.) is described as a “clean red [with a Matte finish].” It’s a brightened, medium red with cool, pink undertones and a mostly matte finish. It had nearly full color coverage with a lightly creamy texture that was easy to apply. This shade wore well for six hours and left a stain behind. It was a little drying but the least drying of the three. MAC Kinky (LE, $16.00) is slightly warmer. Bite Beauty Fraise (P, $24.00) is lighter. NARS Deadly Catch (LE, $26.00) is slightly darker. MAC Damn Glamorous (LE, $16.00) is pinker. Kat Von D Hexagram (P, $21.00) is more matte. MAC Ruby (LE, $16.00) is glossier. Too Faced Melted Ruby (P, $21.00) is glossier, brighter. MAC RiRi Woo (LE, $16.00) is cooler-toned. MAC Ruby Woo (P, $16.00) is cooler-toned. MAC Ronnie Red (LE, $16.00) is similar. MAC MAC Red (P, $16.00) is cooler-toned. See comparison swatches / view dupes.

These lipsticks launch on December 4th on maccosmetics.com and at select store locations.

Charlotte Tilbury Confession Kissing Lipstick

Charlotte Tilbury Confession Kissing Lipstick
Charlotte Tilbury Confession Kissing Lipstick

Charlotte Tilbury Confession Kissing Lipstick ($32.00 for 0.12 oz.) is a muted, shimmery, rose gold–it’s a warmer pink with hints of peach paired fine, gold shimmer–with a soft, frosted finish. Tom Ford Beauty Pink Dune (02) (LE, $49.00) is sheerer, warmer. bareMinerals Feel the Love (LE) is less shimmery, pinker. Bobbi Brown Baby Pink (P, $26.00) is pinker. MAC Naked Proof (LE, $16.00) is less shimmery. MAC Supreme Style (LE, $17.00) is lighter. Guerlain Garance (P, $51.00) is pinker. See comparison swatches / view dupes.

It’s a new, limited edition shade for the holidays, and it’s festive in its own way. It makes me think New Year’s Eve with the shimmery finish, which makes it a bit different from some of the other beiges she has in the range. The color coverage was mostly opaque, and the consistency was lightly creamy with a light-to-medium-weight feel on the lips. It applied evenly and fairly smoothly, while the color itself lasted for four hours on me and was somewhat hydrating over time.

Charlotte Tilbury Hepburn Honey & Love Bite Kissing Lipstick

Charlotte Tilbury Hepburn Honey Kissing Lipstick
Charlotte Tilbury Hepburn Honey Kissing Lipstick

Charlotte Tilbury Hepburn Honey Kissing Lipstick ($32.00 for 0.12 oz.) is a light-medium peach with warm undertones and a luminous finish. It had rich, opaqued color coverage that applied evenly and smoothly. This shade wore well for four and a half hours, while the formula was lightly hydrating and creamy enough to glide on without tugging. MAC Sensual Sparks (LE, $16.00) is lighter, more matte. Urban Decay Naked 2 (P, $22.00) is lighter. NARS Isola Bella (P, $25.00) is less glossy. NARS Floralies (P, $25.00) is lighter, yellower. NARS Biscayne Park (P, $25.00) is lighter. MAC Posh Tone (P, $22.00) is slightly darker. MAC Delectable (LE, $16.00) is more matte. MAC Wholesome (LE, $16.00) is lighter. MAC Freckletone (P, $16.00) is sheerer. See comparison swatches / view dupes.

Charlotte Tilbury Love Bite Kissing Lipstick ($32.00 for 0.12 oz.) is a brightened, medium red with subtle, neutral-to-warm undertones and a luminous finish. I think this may look bluer-based on those with strong, cool undertones, but it seems more neutral to lightly warm-toned when I swatch it next to more distinctively blue-based lipsticks. It had rich, full color coverage that went on evenly and smoothly. This shade wore well for over six hours and left a stain behind. It was lightly hydrating over time and comfortable to wear. There are definitely a lot of similar shades within this type of finish (there are so many that I’ve omitted mattes, but I don’t doubt that there would be matte shades with a similar coloring). NARS Carmen (P, $32.00) is slightly warmer. NARS Rita (P, $32.00) is more muted. NARS Annabella (P, $32.00) is a touch more muted. Bite Beauty Grandifolia (LE, $28.00) is warmer. NARS Future Red (LE, $26.00) is similar. Maybelline Infra-red (LE, $7.49) is similar. Guerlain Gilda (P, $51.00) is warmer. Guerlain Gala (P, $51.00) is darker, cooler-toned. Buxom Provocateur (P, $21.00) is similar. See comparison swatches / view dupes.

Kat Von D Backstage Bambi Everlasting Liquid Lipstick

Kat Von D Backstage Bambi Everlasting Liquid Lipstick
Kat Von D Backstage Bambi Everlasting Liquid Lipstick

Kat Von D Backstage Bambi Everlasting Liquid Lipstick ($19.00 for 0.22 fl. oz.) is described as a “vivid hot pink.” It’s a neon, cotton candy pink with strong, blue undertones and an ultra-matte finish. There are certainly similar shades in regards to the color, but this is the most matte of all I’ve come across. Kat Von D Backstage Bambi (P, $21.00) is less blue-based. Marc Jacobs Beauty Pop-arazzi (606) (P, $28.00) is glossier. Melt Cosmetics Stupid Love (P, $19.00) is cooler-toned. MAC Kelly Yum-Yum (LE, $16.00) is less blue-based, less matte. Sephora + Pantone Universe Radiant Rush (LE, $18.00) is glossier. Bite Beauty Moscato (P, $28.00) is glossier. Bite Beauty Satsuma (LE, $24.00) is glossier. Chanel La Diva (44) (P, $34.00) is less matte. MAC Candy Yum Yum (P, $16.00) is less matte. See comparison swatches / view dupes.

This shade delivers exceptionally well on all but hydration–the formula feels drying after four hours of wear, and it gets more drying until I take off–but the color coverage is excellent, while it was still wearing quite well even after eight hours. You can easily eat most meals (any meal with higher oil content will break down makeup, though), and I like that it doesn’t flake away or fade unevenly. It’s the type of formula that goes on as a creamy, liquid lipstick but then dries down fully to a totally flat, matte finish. You have to work fairly quickly when you are applying it, and you want a thin, even layer to get a really smooth application. It will leave a stain that lingers for hours after. It’s not as comfortable to wear as a more emollient, traditional lipstick, but it doesn’t feel totally like cling-wrap on the lips either. I wish it was more “not drying,” but the trade-off of rich, truly long-wearing color might be worth it for some.
