Venus in Furs

Pat McGrath Venus in Furs MatteTrance Lipstick ($38.00 for 0.14 oz.) is a muted, medium-dark, rosy mauve with warm undertones and a satin finish. The lipstick yielded opaque pigmentation in one stroke, which applied evenly across my lips and never tugged or dragged. The consistency was lightweight, velvety, and creamy enough to be comfortable to apply but not so slippery that it was hard to wear. I found the color adhered evenly and did not emphasize my lip lines as some mattes are prone to doing. It wore well for six hours and was neither drying nor hydrating.

Formula Overview

$40.00/0.14 oz. - $285.71 Per Ounce

The formula is supposed to be “richly pigmented” with “”supreme hydration” and “opulent matte opacity.” The consistency was smooth, velvety, and dense without being too firm for one-stroke, glide-on application (I found the original shades to be slightly firmer compared to more newly released shades). They had nearly opaque to opaque coverage in one layer and most were buildable.

They had a subtle sheen--more satin-to-cream in finish--that wore down to a natural matte finish within an hour or two of wear. The formula lasted between four and eight hours on me, and while most weren't drying, they aren't "supreme[ly" hydrating either. They are, however, comfortable to wear over a longer period of time and reapply well. There was no discernible scent or taste to the formula.

Soft Core

Pat McGrath Soft Core MatteTrance Lipstick ($38.00 for 0.14 oz.) is a medium pink with subtle, warm undertones and a semi-matte finish. The color coverage was opaque in one stroke, while the texture felt velvety and smooth with nice glide. It sat fairly well on my lips, particularly given that it was a creamier, denser formula (but felt rather lightweight), but there was a smidgen of product in my deeper lip lines. The color lasted well for six and a half hours on me and was neither drying nor hydrating.,

I really love Venus In Furs. However, I do find it to be quite the conundrum trying to decide between VIF and Realness or Omi. They are SO close in shade to each other!

I purchased Venus in Furs recently. Sephora described it as a rose color. Unless it is mismarked (on both the lipstick and package it says Venus in Furs), on me, it comes across as a rosy, muted brown. Don’t get me wrong–the formula is great; and, the color is also very nice. But, I do have some dupes for this. I am fair- skinned, with very light blue eyes, and reddish-brown hair. Maybe that is why it looks different on me. I am keeping it, though, as a tribute to the Velvet Underground and the infamous song for which this lipstick is named.

I love soft core so much and really love the matte formula of these lipsticks it I thought soft core looked more like still crazy from the colourpop lux collection but it wasn’t a dupe at all!!! I may have to buy money side up but I need to know of the formula is similar. What are your feelings on this Christine? I a, still waiting for my colourpop order to get to me so I have nothing to co pare it to

The texture and overall feel of the lipstick is noticeably different from ColourPop. These have an overall denser, plusher, more comfortable feel on the lips, and on average, are much longer-wearing.

The color is nice, but my favorite part is the texture of the lipstick tubes! That rough matte texture is unique and kinda aesthetically satisfying to look at! Also very glad to see these continue to score high ratings.
