By Terry Light & Tan Vibes Sun Designer Palette ($82.00 for 0.53 oz.) includes six shades that can be used as highlighters, blushes, and/or bronzers. As I mentioned in my review of Tan & Flash Cruise, there was a lighter/mote muted option, and this is it. I had the same experience with this palette as I did with the other: I was impressed by the softness, blendability, and finish of these on the skin–they’re very easy to use and diffuse, and the finish is glowing without emphasizing pores. Despite being very soft and finely-milled, they’re not really powdery or dusty; they seem to have a decent amount of binder so they adhere well and don’t get messy in the pan. The wear varied from eight to eight and a half hours across the six shades.
Light & Tan Vibes #1 is a medium, golden bronze with warm undertones and a fine, frosted shimmer. It had good color payoff paired with an incredibly smooth, silky texture that blended out effortlessly. The shimmer was just fine enough that it didn’t emphasize pores to my eye, but it gave a noticeable sheen. This shade wore well for eight hours on me. Laura Mercier Seduction (P, $45.00) is darker (90% similar). Charlotte Tilbury Medium/Dark Bronze (PiP, ) is cooler (95% similar). Too Faced Jolie (LE, ) is warmer (95% similar). Bobbi Brown Bikini Bronze (LE, $45.00) is darker, cooler (85% similar). Kevyn Aucoin Tropical Days (P, $48.00) is lighter (85% similar). MAC Royal Vibrancy (LE, $42.00) is less shimmery, darker (90% similar). ColourPop Poolside (P, $8.00) is less shimmery, darker (90% similar). NARS Casino (P, $38.00) is less shimmery, darker (90% similar). theBalm Betty-Lou Manizer (P, $24.00) is more shimmery, lighter, warmer (90% similar). Too Faced Sun Bunny #1 (PiP, ) is warmer (90% similar). ColourPop Glo Up (LE, $8.00) is more shimmery, darker (90% similar). Becca Topaz (P, $38.00) is lighter, brighter, warmer (85% similar). Give Me Glow Take Me to the Tropics (P, $17.25) is more shimmery (85% similar). Salt New York Bronze (P, $16.00) is less shimmery, darker, warmer (80% similar). Melt Cosmetics Sundown (P, $22.00) is less shimmery, darker, cooler (80% similar). See comparison swatches / view dupes side-by-side.
Light & Tan Vibes #2 is a softer, medium pink-coral with warm undertones and fine, gold frost that gives it a luminous finish. I think this is a shade that will look pinker and brighter on fairer and cooler skin tones, and then a bit warmer and more coral-like on warmer skin tones (like it does on me). The texture was soft, silky, and very lightly dusty, but it blended out beautifully on the skin and sat well without emphasizing pores or the skin’s natural texture. It lasted for just over eight hours on me before fading around the edges. This color is extremely dupable, though. Stila Peach Shimmer (LE, ) is warmer (95% similar). Too Faced Peachy Keen (LE, ) is more shimmery, darker (95% similar). bareMinerals The Natural High (PiP, $22.00) is darker, warmer (95% similar). MAC Sweet Vision (LE, $28.00) is darker (95% similar). Bobbi Brown Antigua (P, $38.00) is less shimmery, lighter (95% similar). Becca Flowerchild (P, $32.00) is less shimmery (95% similar). Guerlain Blush G (LE, $65.00) is more shimmery (95% similar). Fenty Beauty Yacht Life (P, $25.00) is less shimmery, darker (95% similar). NARS Orgasm X (P, $30.00) is less shimmery, darker, cooler (90% similar). Chanel Sunkiss Ribbon (LE, $70.00) is less shimmery (90% similar). Melt Cosmetics Nevermore (P, $22.00) is darker, more muted, cooler (90% similar). Tarte Glisten (P, $29.00) is more shimmery, darker (90% similar). MAC Springsheen (P, $24.00) is warmer (90% similar). Chanel Rose Glacier (170) (LE, $45.00) is cooler (90% similar). Laura Geller Fruit Punch (P, $28.00) is less shimmery, cooler (90% similar). KIKO 103 Golden Peach (P, $12.00) is less shimmery, lighter (90% similar). ColourPop More is More (P, $8.00) is less shimmery, lighter, cooler (90% similar). Sleek MakeUP Rose Gold (P, $6.99) is more shimmery, lighter, brighter (90% similar). Milani Dolce Pink (P, $7.99) is darker, warmer (90% similar). Charlotte Tilbury Pillow Talk Medium-Deep #3 (PiP, ) is less shimmery, darker, warmer (90% similar). Top 20 dupes listed, see the rest. See comparison swatches / view dupes side-by-side.
Light & Tan Vibes #3 is a light, golden peach with warm undertones and a frosted sheen. It had good color payoff, though this is a color that tends to get lost on my skin tone as once blended out, it just adds a sheen without pronounced color–on lighter skin tones, you might get more warmth and on darker skin tones, it might highlight more obviously. The texture had the same smooth, silky, and finely-milled as the other shades, and it was easy to blend out on the skin. From what I could tell, the sheen was visible for a good eight hours before it started to breakdown. NARS Unlimited (LE, $30.00) is less shimmery (95% similar). Tarte Moonlight (PiP, ) is darker (95% similar). Tom Ford Beauty Highlighter (Softcore) (LE, $60.00) is warmer (95% similar). Laura Geller Peach Glow (P, $26.00) is lighter, cooler (90% similar). Surratt Beauty Coup de Genie (P, $32.00) is darker (90% similar). Milani Rosa Romantica (P, $7.99) is darker (90% similar). Iconic London Rose Glow (Right) (PiP, ) is less shimmery, warmer (90% similar). bareMinerals The Brilliant Sunset (LE, $26.00) is darker (90% similar). Anastasia Forever Young (LE, ) is more shimmery, darker, cooler (90% similar). Hourglass Euphoric Strobe Light (LE, $40.00) is less shimmery, darker (90% similar). Physicians Formula Natural Glow (P, $12.99) is less shimmery, darker, less pigmented (95% similar). NARS Give In Take Blush II (LE, ) is less shimmery, darker (85% similar). Clionadh Vesta (P, $12.50) is more shimmery, cooler (85% similar). Kosas Papaya 1972 (Highlighter) (PiP, ) is less shimmery, warmer (85% similar). Suqqu Yawakouki (05) (P, $34.00) is less shimmery, darker (80% similar). Charlotte Tilbury Pillow Talk (P, $40.00) is less shimmery, darker, cooler (80% similar). Light & Tan Vibes #4 is a light, golden beige with warm, yellow undertones and a satin finish. Again, it’s so close to my actual skin tone that it is hard to show it off in a full face photo–in the skin swatch, you can just barely see it. It doesn’t do much on my skin tone, but I could see it adding light warmth on very fair skin tones or helping to even out some complexions. The texture was finely-milled and soft, very blendable and sat well on the skin. It was hard to see the product on me, but based on what I could assess, it seemed to last eight hours. By Terry Tan & Flash Cruise #4 (LE, ) is darker (95% similar). NARS Nico (P, $30.00) is less shimmery (95% similar). See comparison swatches / view dupes side-by-side.
Light & Tan Vibes #5 is a muted, medium rosy brown with warm undertones and a satin sheen. I found it to have a more noticeable glow on the skin than the lighter tan (#4) shade. It ended up being a subdued, natural-looking bronzing element on my skin tone, and I can see why it would work a treat for fairer complexions (the palette is designed for lighter skin tones, while the other palette was designed for darker skin tones). The texture was a little dusty, but it didn’t look powdery on the skin and blended out without immediately sheering out. On me, the color wore well for eight hours. By Terry Tan & Flash Cruise #6 (LE, ) is darker, warmer (95% similar). MAC Optical (LE, ) is less shimmery, darker (90% similar). ColourPop Aphrodisiac (P, $8.00) is less shimmery, darker (90% similar). Urban Decay Video (DC, $26.00) is less shimmery, darker, warmer (90% similar). Zoeva ND010 (PiP, ) is less shimmery, darker, cooler (90% similar). ColourPop Matchmaker (LE, $12.00) is less shimmery, darker, warmer (90% similar). Tarte Sensual (P, $29.00) is less shimmery, warmer (90% similar). MAC I'm Not Blushing (Bottom) (LE, ) is darker (85% similar). Hourglass Brilliant Nude (PiP, $38.00) is more shimmery, darker (85% similar). Surratt Beauty La Rosée du Soir (P, $32.00) is less shimmery, darker (90% similar). NARS Talia (Highlight) (PiP, ) is less shimmery, lighter (85% similar). ColourPop Construct (LE, $12.00) is less shimmery, darker, warmer (85% similar). Light & Tan Vibes #6 is a medium-dark brown with warm, yellow undertones and a satin finish. It had good color payoff, though it was the least pigmented in the palette, paired with a fairly soft, smooth texture. Oddly, it was a little firm in the pan compared to the other shades. I wouldn’t describe it as hard to use or to blend out, just that it wasn’t as effortless as most shades in the palettes were, so the difference was more noticeable as a result. This shade wore for eight and a half hours on me before fading. Tarte Social Butterfly (LE, $29.00) is less shimmery (95% similar). bareMinerals Warmth (LE, ) is lighter, cooler (95% similar). By Terry Tan & Flash Cruise #5 (LE, ) is less shimmery (95% similar). Stila Sending My Love Bronzer (LE, ) is darker, warmer (90% similar). MAC I'll Hold My Breath #1 (LE, ) is warmer (90% similar). ColourPop Paradise Cove (P, $8.00) is warmer (90% similar). bareMinerals The Skinny Dip (PiP, $24.00) is lighter, warmer (85% similar). Burberry Summer Glow (P, $48.00) is warmer (85% similar). Burberry Dark Earthy (P, $42.00) is lighter (90% similar). Becca Wild Honey (P, $32.00) is lighter, warmer (90% similar). bareMinerals The High Dive (PiP, $24.00) is lighter, warmer (80% similar). Pretty much wearing this non-stop since I got it. The shimmer is so freaking goregus! I also layer the tan side over MAC mineralize blush in Cosmic Force.
Thanks for the tip about layering it!
Wendy, could you comment on how you use the #4 shade (if you do)? I have a feeling it would just disappear in my skin.
This may be one of those high end splurges that feels worth the price tag! Gorgeous!
Quite possibly!
Oh boy, as suspected I love this and now need to own it. I like that the colours are more mellow than the other. Actually ideally I would like the left side of this one and the right side of the other one… which means I am buying both.
Enjoy, Alison! 🙂
Alison, I was thinking the same thing. Too bad we can’t mix and match sides from tbe 2 palettes!
It is all part of the plan to get us to have to buy both!
Shade #2 is very fun. Once again, I’m not sure I’d take the time to separate the colors.
It is!
Are the zigzag pans big enough to use a regular blush brush in order to pick up just one shade?
Just big enough, but for a larger blush brush, you’d get overlap!
I just got this palette and I love it! I also use some of the shades as eyeshadow and they wear wonderfully for that as well.
Happy to hear it, Marissa!
This definitely looks like a decent bronzing/ highlighting palette for pale or fair peeps. But I think there are less expensive options to get the same, because TBH, these shades look far too easy to dupe. Super common shades.
Definitely dupes for them!
Very nice shades for pale skin.
Definitely!
Oh dang it. Why’d this have to score so well, now I want it! ? I prefer this palette to the other bc of the shimmery highlight included. I seriously don’t understand shades like #4 and Nico. WHAT are they FORRR??????
I think on some skin tones, they can be used to brighten or set the under eye, help correct over-application, etc.!
Ok I can kinda see that…I hadn’t thought of correcting over-application but that makes sense. BUT, I still don’t think theyre useful enough to be included in a palette like this. But that’s just my opinion. 😉
Hi Bonny.
My thoughts exactly about the palette. I splurged & bought both but am second guessing myself.
Anyhoo…you are gorgeous that’s an awesome profile picture. Do you know what color you are wearing as your highlighter, blush/contour & or bronzer? Most important tho what brand & color lipstick are you wearing??? I need that in my arsenal NOW! As if I don’t have something similar in my extensive red lipstick collection.
Merci in advance doll!
Hi CatHaus!!!
Thank you so much for the compliments!!! This picture is pretty old now, like at least a year old. I think I’m wearing mostly Dior products (I used to work for Dior and got lots of gratis!) I’d wear their nude tan bronzer in 03 and shimmer star powder in Amber Diamond constantly. Sadly both are discontinued. The lipstick is definitely Chanel Rouge Allure in 99 (Pirate) it’s a gorgeous bold blue-based red, but I don’t know if it’s still around. Check it out tho! I equally love their 105 (Inimitable) from the same line, which is a slightly shimmery/metallic red. Super gorgeous. I hope that helps a little!!!
Swatches and review seems fantastic enough for me to purchase. Please someone stop me. I don’t need these!
You can resist, Melissa!
Haha! Thank you!!
Wow, the scores on this palette are very impressive! I don’t wear a lot of browns on my face (tends to look muddy on me ) and not a fan of big blush palettes (prefer individual portable compacts) , but if she has individual blushes in this formula, I would definitely consider buying
I wonder if the brand will release any some day!
This is more my shades and colouring – just beautiful. But the zig zags aren’t really necessary – a straight line would have been more practical.
That’s a good point, Genevieve!
This has me so confused! LOL!! My palette was so dusty and kicked up so much powder it was almost unuseable. I’ve talked to others who had the same experience as myself…and I’m left to wonder if some of these weren’t duds? No matter what brush I used, I felt like I swept away a few dollars every time I tried to use it, I had to return it despite it being very pretty to look at!
Oh no! 🙁
At least you returned it, though, because if it was like that, it would be no good for me as well! Definitely soft but not dusty or pwodery to me, and I feel like I’m one of the first to call something powdery, LOL.
Also very pretty! I’m starting to think I need to try me some By Terry… stat.
I can see why this palette is so popular. The highlighter (#3) is gorgeous and #4 would add warmth to my skintone. Given your score and having passed Wendy’s muster, will definitely be picking this up! Thanks for tbe review, Christine.
I am madly in love with this palette and have been wearing it nonstop since I got it a few weeks ago. I love shade #1 on the eyes. I use the right half for subtle contouring and the right side for a pop of color. My coloring is light and neutral (Armani 4.5), and I love the subtle color and degree of shimmer. Simply beautiful and elegant! It is quite soft, so I try to use a light touch and softer brushes. I never buy backups since I have so much unused makeup, but I may make an exception for this palette. It’s perfect!
i have this one in my cart but noooow wondering…which one is better to grab for med/drk tones….
I like this palette but I love the other one more. I’m glad I can dupe this one though with the other one and Stila’s Peach Shimmer! I wore Peach Shimmer yesterday and it’s a lovely one for spring/summer ?.
I tried to resist temptations… but lastly I bought this palette. Please Christine, tell me that now I don’t need the blush in The Afternooner…
Definitely skip The Afternooner!!
