By Terry Tan & Flash Cruise Sun Designer Palette
By Terry Tan & Flash Cruise Sun Designer Palette ($82.00 for 0.53 oz.) includes six shades that can be used as highlighters, blushes, and/or bronzers. There are two variations, this and a lighter version with more muted shades on the left side (which I expect to review as well). I was impressed by the softness, blendability, and finish of these on the skin–they’re very easy to use and diffuse, and the finish is glowing without emphasizing pores. Despite being very soft and finely-milled, they’re not really powdery or dusty; they seem to have a decent amount of binder so they adhere well and don’t get messy in the pan. The wear varied from eight to eight and a half hours across the six shades.
Tan & Flash Cruise #1 is a pop of bright, medium-dark pink with warm undertones and a satiny sheen. It had rich color payoff with a very smooth, soft, and blendable consistency that applied well to bare skin and lasted for eight and a half hours before fading. Tom Ford Beauty Wicked (P, $60.00) is less shimmery (95% similar). MAC Red Water Lily (LE, $40.00) is darker (95% similar). Tarte Lovable (LE, $29.00) is lighter (95% similar). Tan & Flash Cruise #2 is a bright, medium coral-orange with warm undertones and a soft, frosted finish. The pigmentation was intense and true-to-pan–a little went a good way. The powder had a very soft, silky feel to it, but it wasn’t dusty or powdery. It was easy to diffuse and blend out on the skin, and the color wore well for eight and a half hours on me. NARS Lovesick (LE, $30.00) is cooler (95% similar). NARS Fetishized (LE, $30.00) is more shimmery (95% similar). ColourPop Drive Me Crazy (P, $10.00) is more shimmery (95% similar). Tan & Flash Cruise #3 is a bright, medium fuchsia pink with cool, blue undertones and a pearly sheen. It had good color payoff paired with a soft, blendable texture that was silky and finely-milled and just a smidgen dusty. The color lasted for eight hours on me before fading noticeably. Giorgio Armani Ecstasy (52) (P, $38.00) is less shimmery, darker (95% similar). Surratt Beauty Barbe a Papa (P, $32.00) is more shimmery, lighter, warmer (90% similar). Tan & Flash Cruise #4 is a light beige with warm undertones and a satin finish. It had opaque color coverage, but it blends in with my skin tone, so it may be hard to tell. On my skin tone, it tends to subtly highlight without adding a lot of color. This shade wore well for eight hours before fading. By Terry Light & Tan Vibes #4 (LE, ) is lighter (95% similar). NARS Nico (P, $30.00) is less shimmery, lighter (90% similar). See comparison swatches / view dupes side-by-side.
Tan & Flash Cruise #5 is a medium-dark brown with warm, yellowy undertones and a satin finish. It had good pigmentation with a soft, silky texture that blended fairly easily on the skin but wasn’t as foolproof as the other shades. It lasted for eight hours on me. Tan & Flash Cruise #6 is a muted, medium peachy-brown with warm undertones and a satin finish. The color payoff was mostly opaque, while the texture was soft, lightly dense, and smooth, so it applied well to the skin, sat nicely, and blended out easily. I have this in the tan and Light version and I love it. I was debating on this one but I have fair skin, do you think fair skin can pull this version off?
I think you can for sure, but the only downside is that two of the right-hand shades are (IMO) quite similar to the Tan & Light palette as well 🙁
Hmm maybe I’ll pass on it then. The tan and Light is perfect and I use it everyday.
Hi Vanessa,
I’m NC15, fair with peach undertones, and I can easily wear this palette. The powder itself is exquisite and is easy to blend as you already know since you have the lighter palette. I use a Wayne Goss #14 to apply and have never had any “clown cheek” issues. If you like these vibrant summer colors, go for it. When you first use it, though, just use less than you think you’d need and gradually work up until you find the right intensity for your comfort zone. I wear mine much more subtly than what you see in Christine’s pictures. I get the beautiful color and soft sheen without it looking in the least bit overly bright or garish on my fair complexion.
Thanks Eileen. I have been trying to get the wayne goss 14 brush but it’s still out of stock at beautylish. I may get this palette since beauty.com has their sale going on.
I agree, I’m fair too and the bright colours really suit my skintone without being too much or garish.
It’s a good mix of colors for summer!
Agreed!
I have this palette and love it. The powder is very finely milled with excellent color pay off.
I was surprised that it wasn’t powdery despite being so soft!
Thank god for dupes!! Lol. $80 for something less than 1 oz? For the most basic of colors? Um no thanks!
I think for By Terry’s pricing in general, it’s actually quite good, but it is a more luxury-priced brand!
I just bit the bullet and bought the tan & light version from beauty.com, because 20% off $82 is pretty decent! I don’t have an all-in-one palette like this, and I feel like with a few of the shades in the one I picked, I can use them as eyeshadow as well!
I hope you love it, Sabrina! 🙂
Wow, love the colors and finish, esp. #2 and #3! Unfortunately, I don’t use a lot of brown blushes/bronzers on my face, so mainly interested in the right side of the palette. Wish this had been broken up into individual pans or maybe a 3-pan compact to make it more portable and affordable.
A three-pan would make a lot of sense!
Just… wow! :-O
Is that a good or bad wow? LOL!
A good wow! 🙂
Due to the price tag I’ve been debating on this for six weeks now, but after seeing your review . . . UGH, I just wish I could put those crying-faced emojis here! This is amazing! And with the F&F sale at beauty.com going on, it’s discounted to the same price as the Chanel Les Beiges duo I was looking at, but you get six shades instead of two. I can’t thank you enough for this review because it’s been the breaking point for my decision. You and your team rock like no other, Christine!
If you’re being the Chanel duo and this, this so much more. I will review the Chanel one soon, but it’s not even close.
No joke, last night I was on the Chanel site about to buy the Summer Les Beiges bronzing duo and for whatever reason my PayPal wouldn’t connect. Then today you post this review and I’m so thankful! You and your team have saved me more times than I can count!
This is so gorgeous. But having only one dupe, Nico, and that only because I got the despair palette, says these are not my colors. (Kneeling and making religious gestures.) phew! Maybe won’t be so lucky on the other one. Esp. Since I want to try all kinds of products, one I get ‘initialized’ by a brand. Terry de Gunzberg is well beyond my wallet.
I like it better than Nico, only because the finish does more on my skin tone than Nico (which is harder to see) — if you tend to wear subtler/light to mid-tone shades, the other palette might work well.
Darn it…its so beautiful… I wished that this would get the most a B+ so I wouldn’t purchase it… I must look away…
Awww!
These By Terry palettes are one of the few items so far rhis Spring/Summer that are getting universally rave reviews. I’m buying the Light & Tan and pulling on discounts to make the cost more reasonable. Thanks for the review, Christine!!
I was really impressed by the texture – wasn’t surprised that it was soft/finely-milled but WAS surprised it didn’t also feel dusty.
Gorgeous palette. I still worry that the zigzag pans will lose product once pan is hit, though.
The zig zag is interesting, but I could have gone for straight lines myself.
EEEEeeeek! I just ordered both. I’ve been waiting for your review, Christine! I hope the other scores just as well. I probably wouldn’t have ordered both, but the Beauty.com sale made it a little more reasonable. Thanks so much! Looking forward to your review for the lighter palette.
No problem! 🙂 Happy to help! The other review goes up tomorrow <3
OMG! Next time, I should read the comments before I purchase lol! I just canceled my order with Barney’s and placed one via Beauty.com! You can’t beat 20% off plus 4% rebate via Ebates.com! <3
I love how you photographed each shade more than the product itself. If you don’t mind me asking what camera do you use? 🙂
I use a Nikon D3s or Nikon D810!
Yay! So happy that this got an A! I have dupes for practically all the shades but I don’t care, means I will make use of all the shades. I just love this palette, it makes me smile to look at and use ?.
I just got this and am honestly undecided. There is so much fall out that I’m having to use an assortment of brushes to apply and then blend. I love the Chanel Sunkissed Ribbon because once you get the hang of it, it applies and blends beautiful. I find this one is much harder to get a delicate application that you can build or layer without it looking muddy and blotchy. I’m not sure I need both.
Christine, what brush would you recommend to apply these with? I have read other reviews that have named these dusty and I suspect the culprit might be the brush they are using.
Hey Maggie!
So sorry for being late to answer your question, but I haven’t had any issues using Hakuhodo, Chikuhodo, or SUQQU!
I feel by Terry is slowly gaining a larger reputation for the types of great textures in these photos. I’ve been eyeing the Magnet Eyes forever and it may end up being my birthday present to myself.
Also, your skin looks ridiculously amazing..like more than usual!
I love this! And your new thumbnail pic!
Very beautiful, but I’d only use about half of it, so I’ll pass as it’s too costly to buy when I don’t feel the love for the whole palette. I rarely if ever use any kins of bronzing products. I like the look of the ones here, but still, no, I wouldn’t use more than one of the products on the tan side.
I think I’d have a lot of issues trying to get them separate and be more likely to swirl them together.
This is a beautiful assortment of different cheek colors here! Problem is, those zigzag pans I know would drive me utterly bonkers! It just doesn’t look practical to me, is; getting ones brush with just one shade on it? The shades themselves, though, are perfection.
A beautiful palette where you can use the blushes separately or swirl one or two together. Love it. Great rating too.
I saw this posted earlier today and about died! I’m so sorry I’ve not been commenting. I’m getting crushed with work training. It’s insane. I still look through your reviews at night. This may be a good thing to reward myself with! I also have to thank you for posting the beauty. com promotion.
I am super curious to see the other one! I will keep my eye out for your review. The brightness of the blushes on this one makes me nervous. But I still want!
I have this and love it ! The coral blush at the 1st sight does remind me my HG TF Flush ! It’s so joyful to look at this bright coloured blushes !
I was hesitating in getting the Light palette but the 3 shades on the right seemed very similar to the Tan palette.
I don’t know how to justify getting the Light palette.
I don’t have the Nars Orgasm kind of pink-gold blushers, neither the shimmery brown kind of shade, but your review confiremed that the 3 shades on the right are 95% similar to those in the Tan palette ! I’ll make my final decision when’ll see your rates on the Light palette. If there is a lot of A+, I may splurge on it, and stop thinking on buying it or not, lol !
After seeing your swatcherooos, I bought this in the tan colour and it’s much more subtle than this on the blush side, but has a high watt shimmer which is totally tdf.
So groggy this morning: I purchased in LIGHT shade. sigh
This palette is so beautiful! And By Terry has never disappointed me, so I may just splurge and treat myself to this one. It seems very versatile.
This is such a beautiful palette! I’ve been eyeing it for a while after seeing it so much on Instagram lol. Part of me wants it but I don’t know if I want to pay $82 for it. Decisions, decisions
I immediately purchased this from Barney’s after reading this review. This palette looks amazing!
