Best Beauty Products | November 2018 Report

Here’s a look at the top 25 products reviewed in the month of October, plus a summary of how many products and brands were reviewed and a break out of ratings! 🙂

I think it’d be fun to go through what we used, purchased, resisted, and so forth each month, here are some questions:

  1. What were your favorites from the last month?
  2. What didn’t impress you?
  3. Did you return anything you purchase?
  4. Or successfully resist temptation?

Please keep discussion on-topic, and if you have general feedback, a product review request, an off-topic question, or need technical support, please contact us!

Please help us streamline the comments' section and be more efficient: double-check the post above for more basic information like pricing, availability, and so on to make sure your question wasn't answered already. Comments alerting us to typos or small errors in the post are appreciated (!) but will typically be removed after errors are fixed (unless a response is needed).

We appreciate enthusiasm for new releases but ask readers to please hold questions regarding if/when a review will be posted as we can't commit to or guarantee product reviews. We don't want to set expectations and then disappoint readers as even products that are swatched don't always end up being reviewed due to time constraints and changes in priorities! Thank you for understanding!

What were your favorites from the last month? Natasha Denona Gold palette, Kevyn Aucoin NudePop palette, Milk Makeup Longwear Gel Liners
What didn’t impress you? N/A
Did you return anything you purchase? No
Or successfully resist temptation? I have not purchased the Bobbi Brown Ultra-Violet palette and I truly want it. I purchased and then immediately canceled my order for Melt’s Smoke Sessions palette b/c I knew I didn’t need it. Maybe if it comes back in stock in the next year, but I need to move in a few months so I’ve got to focus on that.

Favorites for the month of November: Pat McGrath Blitz Trance lipsticks in Club Kiss and Rebel Red. Tom Ford lipstick in Chadwick, Pat McGrath eye shadow palette in Dark Star. Pat McGrath lip gloss in Flesh Astral. I also have fallen in love with the Marc Jacobs SeeQuinn’s (hope that is the right name) and have purchased every colour. For base products I am loving my two newest cushions that I ordered from YesStyle. I have the MIBA Calcium Ion Cushion and the RiRe Cushion. Neither is the perfect shade for me so I mix the two. I also am loving the Thrive Causemetics blush in Rosie and the translucent powder.

What didn’t impress me: I wasn’t blown away by the Thrive Causemetics mascara which I was expecting to love. I don’t hate it but it doesn’t do what it says it will. I had to apply 3 coats to get anything close to my Cover Girl Super Sizer or many of the other mascara’s I use. I tend to like layering my mascara’s so may be able to find a combo that I like. The Thrive CC cream which is suppose to have a blurring effect was just okay. I think the powder is what really worked. The eye liner, not so much. Wouldn’t stay on my waterline. So out of the 6 products I picked up to try I loved 2, liked 3 and one was a bust.

Return anything: No, I didn’t.

Resist temptation: I have been fighting picking up the Dominique Berries and Cream palette. I have so many berry palettes but always want the next one down the pike. I really wanted to get the Lisa Eldridge lipstick release but kept putting it off because I have so many red lipsticks. Of course, about 5 minutes after the restock was sold out, I started wishing I had purchased. She says she will release more later but not sure if she is talking about the same shades or new shades. Anyway, you snooze you lose!!

What were your favorites from the last month?

ABH Sultry Eyeshadow Palette. MAC Snowball Holiday 2017 Gold Eyeshadow Palette. MAC Shiny Pretty Things Holiday 2018 Rose Palette. Becca Prosecco Pop Highlighter. Lorac Pink Blush. MAC Extra Dimension Bareness Blush.

What didn’t impress you?

I’ve been using up mascaras. I wasn’t impressed with Flower Beauty Zoom In Ultimate Mascara or It Cosmetics Superhero Mascara. I’m glad to be onto different mascaras this month!

Did you return anything you purchase?

No

Or successfully resist temptation?

Oh I’ve resisted a lot. I’ve passed on much of this holiday season. I’m at a point where I don’t need anything else except repurchasing the basics as I go through them!

I don’t like superhero, either. Fair at the beginning, went worse, then a bit better, then worse again…all within the expiration date. Finally tossed it. Not comfortable at all with the changes, considering I ‘treat them right.’

What were your favorites from the last month?
The Brown Sugar lipstick range from Colour Pop, just not the nude one
Anastasia Sultry – which I didn’t open until this month.

What didn’t impress you?
The lots and lots of lip glosses and matte lipsticks in nude shades coming out.
The Huda Gemstones collection – even though I love both blue and green shades, they just didn’t quite hit the spot with me.

Did you return anything you purchase?
No, not really possible here.

Or successfully resist temptation?
Yes, quite a few skincare deals and all of the Cyber Monday products.

What were your favorites from the last month? Sydney Grace (still don’t have mine, but from everything that I’ve seen, heard for the community, I have a very good feeling about this brand).

What didn’t impress you? A lot, thanks to the vanity and checking for dupes, lots of palettes just didn’t call out to me. And anything highlighters! I just can’t see how they greatly differ from each other. I have two Huda highlighter palettes and a couple of older ones , like The Balm Mary-Lou Manizer , and I just can’t see the need for more.

Did you return anything you purchase? No, rarely (almost never) happens. I research reviews (here, other blogs & You Tube), test, swatch and know my collection and tastes well, so I don’t tend to make very many “mistake” purchases. The rare times I’ve returned something was because I listened to the store assistant or the wrong color was in the box.

Or successfully resist temptation? Lots of eye shadow palettes! Also, picking up any new habits, like lippies, such as resisting Pat McGrath, Tom Ford or a number of other expensive, quality lipsticks. I did buy a couple, but not like my palette passion.
