Pat McGrath 1995, Flesh 3, Guinevere MatteTrance Lipsticks Reviews & Swatches
1995
Pat McGrath 1995 MatteTrance Lipstick ($38.00 for 0.14 oz.) is a muted, medium-dark dusty pink with warm undertones and a satin finish. The color payoff was opaque, while the consistency was smooth, velvety, and lightly creamy without feeling too wet or too heavy on my lips but was more “substantial” overall compared to the average lipstick. It wore well for five hours and was neither drying nor hydrating. It was consistent with the permanent, regularly-packaged shade.

Formula Overview
$38.00/0.14 oz. - $271.43 Per Ounce
The formula is supposed to be “richly pigmented” with “”supreme hydration” and “opulent matte opacity.” The consistency was smooth, velvety, and dense without being too firm for one-stroke, glide-on application (I found the original shades to be slightly firmer compared to more newly released shades). They had nearly opaque to opaque coverage in one layer and most were buildable.
They had a subtle sheen--more satin-to-cream in finish--that wore down to a natural matte finish within an hour or two of wear. The formula lasted between four and eight hours on me, and while most weren't drying, they aren't "supreme[ly" hydrating either. They are, however, comfortable to wear over a longer period of time and reapply well. There was no discernible scent or taste to the formula.

Flesh 3
Pat McGrath Flesh 3 MatteTrance Lipstick ($38.00 for 0.14 oz.) is a medium-dark, reddish-brown with warm undertones and a satin finish. It had rich color coverage that adhered evenly and smoothly to my lips in a fluid stroke. The texture was velvety, lightly creamy but not “wet” in feel, so it didn’t slide around while worn. It stayed on well for six hours and was slightly hydrating overall. It was consistent with the permanent, regularly-packaged shade in color, texture, and wear, though it felt more comfortable by a touch.

Guinevere
Pat McGrath Guinevere MatteTrance Lipstick ($38.00 for 0.14 oz.) is a deep red with subtle, neutral-to-warm undertones and a satin finish. The pigmentation was intense with opaque coverage achieved in one layer, and it was the type of pigmentation where one didn’t even feel like a full layer was necessary. The consistency felt lightly creamy, almost velvety, as it glided across my lips. It applied evenly and lasted nicely for over six hours and left a faint stain behind. The formula felt moisturizing while worn. The limited edition packaged version was consistent with the regularly-packaged version.

1995 was my first PM purchase and Flesh 3 was my second when the collection was brand new (only limited colors and only Mattetrance- selling out quickly) The texture is great but
I rarely use now– I found 1995 too neutral for my taste and Flesh 3 too dark for daily wear.
I do love Luxetrance (Realness) and all of her mothership eye palettes. The Astral balms are starting to become my faves as well.
I’ve been loving on Flesh 3 for some time now, wanting very much to get it, but it suddenly occurred to me … literally, just now … that my Besame lipstick “One Bite” is very much a dupe. I’d have to compare them side-by-side, but my memory of the color plus your photos here makes me think they’re much too close to bother.
I’ve also very much wanted Unnatural Natural and Strange (I’m sensing a theme), and they’re dupes too! Apparently there’s a class of color I’m extremely attracted to.
Why must I be duped up to my gills? ?
Especially for 1995, though! Since I really was thinking of getting it, but I have MAC Among The Fireflies and Spirit. Both appear less pink on me and seem so much lighter, too. Probably because I’m a little darker. Perhaps 1995, because it is much more opaque, will have that pinker nude look than ATF? ?
Guinevere is probably my favorite makeup buy of 2018. Such a gorgeous shade and perfect for fall and winter.
It’s stunning and velvety looking
Love Flesh 3 and Guinevere (that is my nickname in my family), but luckily I have a good dupe for this expensive lipstick in Liquid Courage by ColourPop.
My daughter wore Flesh 3 as we hiked around Glacier National Park today and when we stopped on the way home to do a little antiquing, she was complimented twice on her lipstick shade. She has the perfect lips for lipstick and her skin tone makes it so easy to wear many different shades. She only touched it up once after hiking and then not again and it is still on her lips now and looking great. The wear times on these is so good, even for someone like me who regularly eats their lipstick off!
I’m hoping that PMG labs has a BF or CM sale, esp for a you-pick threefer. Held off on S sale in that hope. Duped sufficiently on Guinevere and Flesh, at 3 each. But, I really wasn’t wowed by my choices based on vast research for ‘unduped.’ WGAS? These 2 are Pat and they rule the lipstick universe, IMO.
I really love all three, but I think I’ll just get Guinevere. I have so many dark reds but this one looks special and I don’t have any close dupe.
I was waiting to pull the trigger on the Guinevere in this packaging during the sephora VIB sale, but I noticed a lot of PMG items went “out of stock” immediately and I missed out.
The Pat McGrath lipsticks look almost aerated with all those tiny holes. Does it feel very different from something like a MAC lipstick?
The formula doesn’t overlap with any MAC lipstick formulas that I can recall since it’s more of a thicker satin-matte.
