Anastasia Eyeshadow
Anastasia Touch of Lilac Eyeshadow ($12.00 for 0.06 oz.) is a very light, muted pink with a soft, frosted finish. It’s not really lilac to me–it is much warmer than that. It had good color payoff with a soft, blendable texture that wasn’t too soft or too firm, so it applied well to the lid and didn’t lose its coverage when blended. The color started to fade after eight hours of wear. Sephora Ex-boyfriend (LE, ) is darker, cooler (95% similar). Laura Mercier Diamond Pink (LE, $23.00) is more shimmery (95% similar). Anastasia Electro Eyeshadow ($12.00 for 0.06 oz.) is an iridescent, medium pinky lavender with subtle, cool undertones and a frosted sheen. It had semi-opaque color payoff with a soft, lightly dusty consistency that is a bit dry to work with, so there is some fall out and sheerness without a good primer or base in place. The color lasted for seven and a half hours. Makeup Geek Hot Pants (DC, $6.00) is more shimmery (95% similar). NABLA Cosmetics Lilac Wonder (P, $8.00) is less shimmery (95% similar). MAC Stars 'n' Rockets (P, $17.00) is less shimmery, darker (90% similar). ColourPop Wake Me (PiP, $4.50) is less shimmery, lighter, warmer (90% similar). Anastasia Star Cobalt Eyeshadow ($12.00 for 0.06 oz.) is a bold, medium-dark navy blue with cool undertones and a metallic sheen. It had really intense pigmentation, but its downfall was the very dense consistency–it felt more like a cream than a powder eyeshadow–which made it harder to blend out and apply to the lid. I would recommend a flat, firm synthetic brush for this one, and then using a softer blending brush after initial application. The color itself started to crease after eight hours of wear. MAC Blue Envy (LE, $17.00) is less shimmery (95% similar). ColourPop Stargaze (P, $9.00) is darker (95% similar). Urban Decay Evidence (DC, $19.00) is warmer (90% similar). Makeup Geek Center Stage (P, $9.99) is more shimmery, darker (90% similar). Too Faced Chill Out (LE, $16.00) is darker, warmer (90% similar). Terra Moons Nightfall (P, $6.25) is less shimmery, warmer (90% similar). Buxom Backstage Pass (P, $12.00) is lighter, warmer (90% similar). Pat McGrath Interstellar (LE, $25.00) is less shimmery, more muted (90% similar). Anastasia Azure (LE, $12.00) is less shimmery (90% similar). Terra Moons Adhara (P, $6.25) is less shimmery, darker (90% similar). Urban Decay Paralyzed (LE, $19.00) is darker, warmer (90% similar). Sephora Aja (LE, ) is less shimmery, darker, warmer (90% similar). KVD Beauty Entombed (DC, ) is less shimmery, darker (90% similar). Anastasia Rich Velvet Eyeshadow ($12.00 for 0.06 oz.) is a deep, burgundy-brown with warm, reddish undertones and a smattering of white micro-sparkle over a mostly matte finish. Applied, it looks more matte than anything else as a lot of the sparkle doesn’t transfer to the lid. It had good color payoff with a soft, smooth consistency that was easy to blend on the skin. It wore well for eight hours on me. LORAC Burgundy (PiP, $19.00) is less shimmery, lighter (95% similar). bareMinerals Stiletto (LE, ) is less shimmery (95% similar). Anastasia Deep Plum (P, $12.00) is less shimmery, warmer (95% similar). Charlotte Tilbury The Queen of Glow #4 (PiP, ) is less shimmery, lighter, warmer (90% similar). Tom Ford Beauty Iris Bronze #4 (LE, ) is lighter (85% similar). See comparison swatches / view dupes side-by-side.
FORMULA OVERVIEW | Anastasia Eyeshadow ($12.00 for 0.06 oz.) is supPosed to be a “finely-milled, highly-pigmented” powder eyeshadow. The brand has a large range of individual eyeshadows that are available as pan-only (no compact to hold them); if you purchase four, you’ll get a 4-well plastic palette for $40 ($10 per eyeshadow), or purchase eight and get an 8-well cardboard palette for $70 ($8.75 per eyeshadow) (the 8-pan is only available directly from the brand). On average, the formula is semi-opaque to opaque, lightly dusty to buttery, wears seven to nine hours, and is fairly blendable. The Metallic and Titanium finishes seem to be the best-performing to me, but there are some really standout mattes and shimmers as well. I find the more recently released shades to be better-performing compared to Anastasia eyeshadows I tried two or three years ago. The wear varies between six and eight hours with decent to good application over bare skin (no primer).

Wow – that blue really is BLUE! I have UD Evidence (I might even have 2 of them) so don’t need this shade but I have to say that I am really enjoying the ABH shadows I’ve purchased so far. I just wish Sephora would carry more of them in store. But I am so impressed, I’m on the verge of trying her concealer and several other products!
It is a rich one! I swear ABH reformulated their eyeshadows, because I really did not find the past palettes that impressive on the whole… but have rarely been disappointed with the ones recently purchased.
I remember swatching Rich Velvet in store and liking it
Nice to hear!
Star Cobalt and Rich Velvet are truly gorgeous shades! Plus, I can easily imagine how all 4 of these shades would come together beautifully in an EOTD look!
They are pretty together! Rich Velvet is a little odd, but it can work. I couldn’t find the photos I took for this one, lol!
I love Star Cobalt and Electro. I do have a blue dupe in UD’s Evidence but that’s darker and has a black base.
Star Cobalt is a neat one, since it has a bit more of a purple/cooler pull than most navy blues.
For the price and formula, I think Make up Geek and MAC offer very similar colours! For a second I thought this was a MAC review too!
I do believe I listed some dupes from both those brands above!
Very pretty! From the ABH palettes I own, the purples can be hit or miss. It’s nice to see these are pretty good, but I don’t think ABH would be my first choice for purple singles.
It’s so rare to find a brand that nails purple eyeshadows, lol!
I purchased a quad of Anastasia eyeshadows, my first shadows from the brand, during the Sephora event and would appreciate any suggestions /guidance for use. I’m finding the formula frustrating. Is the top layer the issue? I was trying to pack on some colour this morning (Rosette..gorgeous colour) on my eyelid with a MAC 239and yeah good luck with that. The shadow did not pack and the more I tried to put on, the sheerer it appeared. I was wearing a light concealer as a base. I have tried other bases, but not getting the performance I would expect from any in the quad. What am I doing wrong?
That is so strange! Rosette was not one I had any issues with. I have used it over NARS’ primer, but I usually wear it without primer (but I do use the MAC 239 for it).
Gorgeous colours – but the only one I love is the Cobalt colour – of which I have a few.
Glad you have dupes 🙂
A naive question. Is it Ok to make the packaging look sooo similar to MAC? I honestly thought MAC came out with a new palette by just looking at the picture.
MAC’s component may not even be designed by them, or it may be designed by a packaging company, who doesn’t owe them the rights. They are both glossy plastic, but Anastasia’s are actually a lot easier to use, because they have the edge along each pan to pop ’em out.
Ah, Ok. Thank you Christine for explaining it to me 🙂
The four shades look so random together… But man, Rich Velvet is a real stunner!
That blue! I like this one quite a lot. It’s all going to depend on how the burgandy shade swatches on me. It’s on my list to swatch now though.
